Ever since Jerry Beck created a page on his website about opening titles, I started having a dire need to see many a classic cartoon with its opening titles intact.

Opening titles on a cartoon can get you all excited to see what comic adventures will ensue. As Jerry had said, TV distributor prints seem to ruin the impact the originals had. Many of the cartoons I ran at my festival had TV logos on them!

I am quite partial to Disney's "Sunbeam" graphic. This was also used in the Terrytoons cartoons, as well as several Andy Panda shorts.

Also, I love the "spinning star" and "porthole" openings of the Popeye cartoons; as well as the "Guess who?" openings of the Woody Woodpecker films.

I am not including the W-B shield opening graphic because that's a given; everybody here loves that graphic!

What's your favorite(s)?

Out of those, I like the Pink Panther one...man, that is COOL! That same concept was used in the titles to the first of the Blake Edwards movie series of the same name.

I like that one too! It was also used in the opening of RETURN OF THE PINK PANTHER. Like many people have said, the openings in each film of the series were some of the best things about them!

Did you ever see SON OF THE PINK PANTHER? They used live-action and animation accompanied by Bobby McFerrin's rendition of the theme.

I wonder if they'll do the same thing for the upcoming PINK PANTHER remake?

I voted for the Famous Studios Popeye graphics because those are the only ones I remember seeing.

I always enjoyed the Universal ART DECO openings to their cartoons and feature films with the stars in the background.

I voted for Woody, but Paramount/Famous would be a close second...

I wish our computer were better able to record audio using a microphone...I'd send you my (really authentic) Woody Woodpecker (40's) laugh!

From what I heard, MGM is involved in the planning stages for a remake of THE PINK PANTHER. Mike Myers is supposed to play Inspector Clouseau. This is all that has been mentioned thus far!
