View Full Version : Do You Think M.O.D.O.K. being in the Avengers and MVC3 has helped his popularity?

honestly nobody ever expected to see M.O.D.O.K. in marvel vs capcom 3 and when he was announced a lot of people were probably thinking W.T.F?
Mod Note: Just a reminder to keep topics posted focused on animation, as this is The Marvel Animation Forum.

Well Marvel seems to really like the character (He stars in their comedic "What the" web series) and that is probably why he ended up in MvsC3.

Yeah, he's gotten pretty well-known lately. He is even getting a revamp in the mainstream comics as well.
But I do wish he wasn't built up as a big threat, only to be punk'd easily in this second appearances (such as Iron Man: Armored Adventures and Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes).

I dunno, in AEMH he was never really built up as a physical threat. First appearance he was pretty thoroughly trounced by Wasp and Thor, then in his second appearance Hawkeye hit him where he couldn't reach (which was hilarious), and then in his latest appearance he gets taken down by HYDRA robots. The threat MODOK (well, MODOC, but I like to think of him as the Mental Organism Designed Only for Konquest, if only because the K looks better) poses is more in the AIM technology he creates, like Wonder Man and the Cosmic Cube.

Hard not to agree with this
i mean this guy gets so defeated so easily that it makes me wonder who would even want to play as him in a video game

He is a giant head with tiny limbs and an enormous ego, I don't understand how that could possibly lack appeal.

Even after he was getting more attention i remember the parodies he had, especially from Megas XLR where Bruce "The King" Campbell voiced Magnanimous and it was really funny and still i liked M.O.D.O.K. since he does look disturbing he's still a cool villain.

Modok was in MVC3 for character diversity mainly, as he's a slow but trick based characters.
While popularity was also a factor more than a few characters were put in just to give players more choices to fight with or to avoid character redundantcy. Super Skrull was picked over Thing as a FF representative because Thing would have played basically like the Hulk, while the other FF members couldn't get enough workable movesets going while SS could represent all of them. While Black Panther and Hawkeye were supposedly not included because they'd have been another martial arts or projectile based characters and they had plenty of those already.
As for Modok himself, regardless of his mental powers and genius he's still basically a giant floating head, with all the agility and fighting skills of such. Meaning he can zap good, but once you're in his face he's basically done. Mighty wasn't exactly what he was known for.

This is why I'm surprised people are always commenting on MODOC/K's lack of fighting skills, and why he was chosen by Capcom to be in their fighting game; he really wasn't designed for hand-to-hand combat, but as a Mental Organism Designed only for Computing/Killing/Conquest/Whatever. And even when it's killing, he usually does this through deadly mind beams or what have you.
Even though he can hold his own against Thor and the Wasp, he really isn't slugging it out with his tiny fists or kicking with his tiny legs.
