Hey folks, sorry about the lateness of the FQ, had some comp trouble this afternoon. Anyhow, here's the next question:

What DC comic titles do you think have jumped the shark, so to speak??

OK, I'll go first and commit major heresy. Get myself burned, tortured, mutilated, impaled, spindled, shredded, hauled up by the short hairs and baked in an oven until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. But. . . .

"No Man's Land." I can't look at the current continuity square in the face anymore.

There. With that fat target to shoot at, this thread should reach a respectable number of posts in no time.

While there are many non-DC books that jumped the shark (Spider-Clone), I'll stick to the best comic universe, even though it's convoluted. I agree No Man's Land went a bit too far, but it did produce a great Rucka novel. I think an Azrael series was totally unneeded, same with Harley and perhaps Batgirl, athough the latter is a much better read although more expensive.

well, the series I have read in the past and dropped because they became uninteresting are too many to list, and while there are periods of certain series I avoided (such as post Byrne FF, most of post DeFalco Amazing Spider Man), to say they jumped the shark is...um...how do I put it? It just doesn't work in the same way they use the phrase to describe TV shows. TV shows that jumped the shark never recover. I think Quesada has brought back several of Marvel titles back from the "jump the shark" stage. So while comic series may, from time to time, lapes into a period of lame stories and hard to bear plot lines, it's just a matter of time before they bring a new creative team on the book to breathe new life in it. And I think many of Marvel's titles are now getting a new lease on life.

Any book in the DCU?

Well, if I had to take my pic, it'd be Green Lantern. Even though the book is a great read at this point in time, back when Kyle left earth to reform the GL Corps, we were left, not watching Kyle butt heads with aliens (no we had to by a completely different mini-series for that), we were left watching his girlfriend, Jenny Hayden (also known as Jade) take his place. After pointless run-ins with Green Arrow and Wonder Woman, and A lady made of plants (not Ivy), I think we all got the impression that the book had jumped the shark a little.
Cheers.

The Superman titles.

Luthor as president is ridiculous. The man, though pardoned, was implicated in the destruction of Metropolis, and that is public knowledge. There's no way he can get elected to any office, much less the highest in the land.

I haven't been able to read the Superman books in years. Of course, i do get tired of the multi title story lines. If I could just get Action Comics and Superman and not have to worry about catching the final part to a story in another Superman title, I'd be more willing to give it a chance.

I'm going to have to go with the Superman titles based on the Luthor presidency. Senator Joe Biden was knocked out of the presidential race several years ago because he had inadvertantly plagiarized John F. Kennedy in a paper he wrote while in college. Luthor would never have stood up to such close scrutiny.
