Always great to hear your insights, Ed Liu. ;)
I think pretty much everyone who has watched the show probably agrees with this sentiment, myself included. While the micro-episodes work great either as 5 minute standalone bits of Marvel goodness or combined into one big coherent package, dividing them into 5 twenty minute episodes just doesn't have the same flow. They're still some great pieces of entertainment, but at the same time they lose some of their coherency.
The real challenge is how to incorporate their original order into a home-entertainment package in an effective way. The best option would undoubtedly have been to have separate playback options for both the individual micro-episodes and the compilations, though I'm not sure how that would actually be organized on a DVD. I'd argue that they should have also made a second compilation that lumps all twenty micro-episodes (and perhaps even the two parts of Breakout) into one gigantic 2-plus hours feature. They'd probably have to do a bit of creative editing though, so perhaps that could be saved for the complete sesaon set.
I just brought this up in another one of the million AEMH threads last night, and it seems like everyone agrees. The original order was the best, not the character-centric grouping.
I can kind of see why they're grouped like they are for the dvd though. Imagine if they said "hey everyone, we're only putting two actual episodes on this disc". The content would've been exactly the same obviously, just in a different order or format, but I can see why they might've been nervous about doing it that way.
