I think I'm in a little bit of both catagories actually. I love the father, the dog, and the baby, because the silly aspect of their comedy reminds me of that WHAT A CARTOON short from Cartoon Network with the guy and his dog that I brought up when FG came out. The animation also had a similar look.
But anyway, I'll watch it if I catch it, but I'm not what you'd call a fan. To me it has that kind of humor in it that the lesser/recent episodes of the Simpsons had.

I like Stewie the most. FG does have similar humor to the Simpsons, I still find it more entertaining than the newsest Simpsons though.

Stewie and the Dog are my favorites. The Dad keeps me amused as well, but not to the same degree.
My favorite episode was the one with Death in it. You know, where Stewie finally killed his mother, and because death was incapacitated, she didn't die.

The Canadian Channel Global showed the episode that will air on FOX this past Saturday at 2:30am in the morning, and it wasn't that bad. It was standard FG fare, but I chuckled through it.

Wait where's Hatter I want to see him react in disghust :p .

That's because Seth Mcfarlane created them both. I think he used that short as a test run for FG.
Anyway, I've only seen one episode and it seems to appeal to that low brow humor that some seem to like.

Noooooo comment.
Though I have to say I did get a kick out of Seth McFarlane's What a Cartoon short. I personally think his style of humor would be better suited to an adult-skewing show on Cartoon Network. Instead, we get the rampant plagarism of Family Guy... sigh.
Oh wait, I said "no comment," didn't I? Erm.... never mind.

While I count myself as a Family Guy fan, I will have to kind of agree here. I do wish Seth McFarlane could do work for Comedy Central or CN's new Adult Swim, or maybe even HBO. Family Guy is funny, but I'd like to see him break out of that mold and try different ground.

Norm MacDonald as Death was a very funny episode, one of my top 5 personal favorite, to be sure.

Are you serious?! What's wrong with Global? FIrst they start airing Batman BEyond in strange time slots and now FG. BTW, they were supposed to air the new episode as a simulcast with FOX.

Yeah. I couldn't remeber his name. But Another of my favorites was the one when the dog got drunk and him and Stewie had to hick-hike home.

According to a GLobal commercial that aired last night, it still will air in it's normal timeslot. Then again, Global has been showing FUTURAMA from 11:30 - 47pm on Saturdays before starting SNL (Why -- no clue). I think Global was just filling space, but as far as I know, FG is still gonna be on Global/Fox at it's regular slot tomorrow.

Yeah I saw Futurama a coyple of times before SNL. But if they're going to show FG in its entirty, why don't they just put it in their schedule? That's what bothered me the most.

Just though i'd bump this thread up, instead of making a new one. So now that 2 new episodes have aired, what does evewryone think? I though the first one was just ok (the bit with letterman was hilarious) and that the second one was much better.

If you mean the eps from the past two weeks, then i enjoyed them my fav jokes (from #1): when Peter tryed to cover up his name, but ended up giving the lady his own, and from #2: when Stewie was in the audition for Kids Say and was making fun of the whole thing.

Yeah. That Stewie bit was funny. He's my favourite character.

I watched them, but was unable to tape them (Long story) but thankfully my mom taped them for me, so I can still have them on tape. (She likes the show too!)
I thought the episodes were good. I may have said it before, but I can't recall if I did....I still can't believe they let that one line thru where Brian said he had licked his share of peanut butter. If you get the joke, you know what I am talking about. If you don't get it, I am not explaining it on a PG board!
Flying Grayson
07-22-2001, 09:38 PM
Well here is a question that was even brought up on the show. Can they understand Stewie? I mean the mom ignores him when he threatens her life, and his constant cursing(how often will a toddler say damn). But anyway, does anyone actually acknowledge him speaking. I mean he's quite verbal for some one his age.
Calhoun07
07-22-2001, 09:51 PM
Yeah, that's one thing me and my mom have debated. I thought early on in the series that they can't hear him at all, and she felt they could. And there are times that they do reply to him, so it makes me wonder. Sometimes when they reply to Stewie, it's pretty obvious they are replying to what he said exactly. Either it's to keep us guessing or it's lazy writing or supposed to be a joke of some sort.

I think that people can understand him, but are too clueless to take him seriously. For example, Lois thinks that everything Stewie says is just baby drivel, even though she understands the words he says. Does that make sense?
Flying Grayson
07-23-2001, 10:32 AM
When I first heard him talk on the first episode I thought he was like the Rugrats(with a foul mouth along with murder and world domination on his mind) and no one could understand him. But then they began to respond to responses

I don't know if I understand what you are saying, but the way I take it is that Stewie sounds like he is talking in baby talk to everybody else, and most of which can be understood somewhat and responded to, but they don't really pick up on all he's trying to say because it's just baby talk to them, but profound statements to Stewie. Did I read that right?

Or maybe Seth McFarlane's just an inconsistent hack.
Sorry, couldn't resist...

Yeah, I am sure he cares what people like you think when he pulls in those checks from Fox! ;)
That's ok, Family Guy is not everybody's cup of tea, but I will just keep this little attack in mind next time a group of you start to pretend the current run of the Simpsons is actually good.

Actually, I was being good. I caught part of the first new Family Guy ep the other day to see if I was being too harsh on it... um... yeah. Never mind.

I think so. All i'm really saying is that since they expect Stewie to only speak baby talk, that's all they hear sometimes.
Mr. Eye

I think that they don't really understand what he says. Except sometimes when he says "damn" or "hell", those words stick out and they only hear those words clearly, which would explain why Lois sometimes tries to set him straight. But Brian seems to understand everything Stewie says.

Gee...I thought that the family understood Stewie but never took anything he says seriously. I always thought they ignored the little fellow  Besides if they CAN understand the dog then they CAN undersatnd the diabolical baby:D Well, those are my thoughts on FG. :D
Calhoun07

I think you have it right, Kylewayne. I was thinking the same thing, that if they can understand a dog, they can understand a baby. They just think he's just being cute.

Ah CRAP. I forgot to remind ppl to watch another new episode tonight. In it, there's a bit where Lois has a dream about Stewie that touches upon the communication between them, that we were talking about. I won't spoil anything till you guys have seen it.

In tonight's episode of Family Guy, Lois "discovers" Stewie's arsenal and realizes she should have been paying attention to all the things Stewie has been saying all along. They kinda answered the question about this in tonight's episode, tho it turned out to be a dream sequence.

sorry, i had to go to work after the episode, but i had to post about it. as usual, a extremely funny episode. i don't think anyone was safe in this one, especially polititians. and the ending about killing strippers, VERY funny...

Family Guy's not bad, I think it used to be funnier earlier, but I think it's too formulaic. Throw in several absurd flashbacks, interject now and then with a Stewie line, try and shock the audience couple times a show, etc, etc, etc. Of course, Stewie is a great character, no matter what. And the dog is cool too. Either way I still prefer the Simpsons, even the recent ones, over FG.
Calhoun07
07-26-2001, 05:51 PM
I love Family Guy, but will agree the first six episodes were the best. The show is basically the same formula now. I'd love to see Seth McFarlane branch out and develop animation for a more daring network, say Adult Swim or HBO or something.

I like FG too. Everybody says it's too crude, but it's meant to offend. I hope Macfarlane decides to put the enitre series (50 episodes) on DVD.

That is what I am holding out hope for, too. This series may not be Fox's most successful series, but they certainly have given it a chance more than once, and hopefully they will release them all on DVD soon. I know I'd buy it.
It's good to see so many Family Guy fans on the boards! I didn't think I could be the only one!
