From Jerry Beck's website:
Cartoon Network will rerun the special TOONHEADS episode, "THE WARTIME CARTOONS" on Memorial Day weekend - May 26th at 9:00pm (EST/PDT). This special, written by Jerry Beck and George Klein, achieved an outstanding 2.3 rating in its last showing during the Independence Day holiday last year.
The program examines the role of Hollywood cartoons, and its star characters, during World War II. Clips from dozens of wartime era cartoons are shown including scenes from Private Snafu and rare Popeye shorts. Four complete cartoons air within the special, including Tex Avery's BLITZ WOLF, Frank Tashlin's SCRAP HAPPY DAFFY, Bob Clampett's RUSSIAN RHAPSODY and Friz Freleng's HERR MEETS HARE. Set your video recorders or TiVo machine now!

It's like a VCR, and TV Guide rolled into one, except you hook it into your phone line, and pay a monthly fee.
You can record on a hard drive like device inside the TiVo unit.
Of course, I still use the VCR.

Having never seen the Lost Toons special, I would like them to air it. That probably won't happen. CN probably forgot about it already.

TOONHEADS SPECIAL - THE LOST CARTOONS (03/12/2000) :
[This one-hour documentary-style special featured mostly highlights and lengthy (sometimes edited) extracts from some films that were rarely seen or previously forgotten in public.]
"Bosko the Talk-Ink Kid"
"Crying for the Carolines"
"Lady Play Your Mandolin"
"Any Bonds Today?"
"Spies"
"The Return of Mr. Hook"
"Two Guys from Texas"
"My Dream is Yours"
"So Much For So Little"
"Orange Blossoms for Violet"
"Drafty Isn't It?
Tang commerical [B&W] with Bugs Bunny and Marvin Martian
"Philbert"
"The Adventures of The Road Runner"
I have a question: Did they show any full cartoons? If almost all of them were highlights and extracts, then I take back wanting to see it. Cartoons are only worth while in full (or almost full) form.

Most were shown as clips. "Lady Play Your Mandolin" was mostly complete. So was "Spies" (with Snafu). It is still a very interesting show. I think you'd like it, Pilmedium.

Does anyone know whether or not "The Blitz Wolf" will be an uncut print or not? If not, I'll just watch my tape of when it first aired.

"The Blitz Wolf was shown edited on this special...First they blocked the part where the sign said No Japs allowed and the edited scene is when a missle blows up and completly destroys Japan.

Actually, Nelson, my friend, the missle destroys Tokyo, not Japan entirely.

Nelson is right. The Pigs' bomb does sink Japan (a sign pops up reading "Dolittle Dood It!"). You might be thinking of Claude Hopper destroying Tokyo at the end of "Hop and Go"?

One thing boggles me...
I have Russian Rhapsody from The Bob Clampett Show and the print used is spotless. The print used on the War cartoons special had 3-4 lines on the side of the picture, but did have slightly improved color.
Anyone else see this difference? I think it's odd for a dubbed version to look WORSE than the undubbed version.

I'll definitely tape "Herr Meets Herr" and "Russian Rhapsody" (already got "Blitz Wolf" and "Scrap Happy Daffy")

I'll have to make a cap of this scene later (I'm typing this at school). But I'm pretty sure the Pigs blew up Tokyo, I seem to remember the sign saying Tokyo blowing to pieces...:p

Okay, here's some pictures (not high-quality) proving that Pietro was correct: The Three Little Pigs DID bomb Tokyo!

That second part I did not know!
I've already seen the special...some very interesting things for sure, but as I have mentioned, a very unbalanced and unfair special. Cartoons can be shown to mock Germany but not Japan? That's why I really gave the special a disappointing mark--the show was too "German"-slanted.
These nitwits at CN need to show a second part of The Wartime Cartoons where all the cartoons are "Japanese"-slanted! That would be the only fair thing to do. And show Blitz Wolf once again...this time uncut and uncensored!

That won't happen.
Why? Well, it's just easier to show a German-slanted cartoon. Those films ridiculed actual political figures like Hitler and Goering. But the Japan-slanted cartoons ridicule the entire Japanese race , and we all know how CN feels about that...
Besides, cartoons like "Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips" and "Tokio Jokio" are probably the only "ethnic" cartoons that truly were hateful towards the group they made fun of. Speedy Gonzales? Inki? That's nuthin'! Naw, these WWII "anti-Japan" cartoons are the worst offenders I know if. That sign in "The Blitz Wolf" didn't say "No Japs allowed". It said "No Dogs Allowed" with "Dogs" crossed out and "Japs" written in its place. That's not "ethnic humor", it's an ethnic slur. And just read the TITLES to these cartoons: "Scrap the Japs", "The Japotouers", "You're a Sap, Mr. Jap"... just imagine if different ethnic groups joined the Axis! You'd have titles like "Scrap the Spics" and "Bugs Bunny Spooks the Spooks".
So, in closing... um, don't hold yer breath. ^^;

Cartoon Network might have done that to prevent insulting anime. Maybe, there weren't as many people insulted by the German issues.

Very fair point, but that's why I have suggested (in other topics) a simple 5-second disclaimer regarding questionable content prior to the cartoon just to cover CN's rear ends, but that won't happen, either.
I think we need one of those specials at 3am in this case!

How does this special compare with the Bugs & Daffy: The Wartime Cartoons video?

That's a good point, but CN COULD have shown Norm McCabe's "The Ducktators"! That's the only cartoon I can think of that only ridicules Hirohito instead of the entire Japanese people.
