It says in the article about the new Bugs Bunny movie, that they wanted to make an improvement from "Space Jam." What I really don't know is what people thought was wrong with "Space Jam." I really liked that movie. Especially, the cameo by Bill Murray. He's been one of my favorite actors since I saw "Ghostbusters!"

I saw 'Space Jam' once, and that was enough for me...
I am not a basketball fan, nor am I a Michael Jordan fan (yet I live in the Chicago area). 'Space Jam', simply stated, was a complete misfire. You'd think they would have used the Looney Tunes characters better than they were used in that movie...

I can only give you MY reason.
Bugs Bunny could defeat Martians, Orange monsters, raging bulls, Tazmanian Devils, giants, wolves, bears, heck even Adolf Hitler and THE ENTIRE IMPERIAL JAPANESE ARMY! But the conceit of Space Jam is that he and his fellow toons need the help of HUMAN characters to defeat their cartoon adversaries.
As much as I like Michael Jordan (I've lived in the Chicago area all my life) and Bill Murray (Caddyshack, Meatballs, Ghostbusters, etc. are classic!) they didn't belong in what I feel SHOULD have been an entirely animated movie starring just the Looney Tunes characters.
But as I said, that's just my my opinion. Which with $4.50 will buy you a double latte at Starbucks:D!
P.S. I hate Billy West's Bugs Bunny. Bergman's is much better.

However, one cannot help but note that there were some great gags in the movie. In particular, Bill Murray appearances, and the psychiatric analysis scenes with the NBA players. However, when it came to the Toons themselves, I just couldn't believe how brilliantly mediocre they were! I dunno, has Bugs slowed up in his declining years? I mean, he's supposed to always win against all odds!

I don't know, he lost in at least twenty cartoons, or came out no better than the villain. Still, I don't see why the entire roster of Looney Tune characters couldn't outsmart those dumber than dirt aliens.

I don't remember those....okay, maybe one or two....
Well, Bugs really never lost against any character he should have beaten. Usually, he loses as an end gag, getting the best of the bad guy in the rest of the cartoon.
J Lee made a nice list of Bugs' losses in this thread: Duck Amuck vs. Rabbit Rampage (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?threadid=12445&highlight=rabbit+rampage).
Bugs usually lost to characters that were never a threat in the first place, like the turtle, or he loses because the other character played on his sympathies, or because he underestimated the other character. He wouldn't lose to a character he is obviously smarter than.

I guess I have to agree with what you said, Chuckamuck. If Bugs can defeat all those adversaries in his cartoons, it is sort of unusual that he would need help from Michael Jordan. Of course, if I can bring some logic to the situation, has there ever been a cartoon in the classic age of animation where Bugs actually played basketball? I don't think so. Just baseball. So maybe that's where Bugs has a weakness.

I think you all might have missed one basic point about Space Jam: the "star" of the "movie" was Michael Jordan. The animated sequeces were weak because they were secondary. Space Jam was a property conceived for His Airness and the Looney Tunes bunch was there as an excuse for merchandising. That's why it was a bad movie.

Bugs Bunny needing help from a human just sickened me. If they made a 7-minute cartoon with Bugs Bunny and basketball, he could have done it.

What would have been nice is if Speedy Gonzales had more parts in that movie. I only saw him once in the park when Michael Jordan is being pulled into the toon world by Yosemite Sam's rope. Speedy would have been good for the basketball team since he is the "fastest mouse in all Mexico."
Bugs didn't seem to know about golf in "My Bunny Lies Over The Sea," but he still won a game of it.

Bugs also wrestled and boxed with that big ape The Crusher (who it seems held titles in both sports).
As for Bugs' losses--well, against Elmer, Sam, Taz, or Marvin he always comes out on top...but once or twice he outsmarted himself ("Rabbit Rampage" and "Ducking the Devil", for example)...and we've seen in one short it's his wife who really wears the pants in the family! Maybe she should've challenged Mike.... ;)

Uh, since WHEN was it BUGS in that one? Daffy appeared in this cartoon.

He was probably confusing it with "Dr. Devil and Mr. Hare." Bugs makes a robot in that one that later turns against him at the end of the cartoon.

Oops, that's right. Both have "Devil" in the title and were directed by Bob McKimson. But you see my point--Bugs can be too smart for his own good at times (also did him in when he raced Cecil Turtle in that metal shell).
