Well after 1200 hopeful characters and people, we've managed to narrow it down to the 128 best. Before, we were just in the qualifying rounds. Now is when it counts. I've created an actual bracket for the contest. The rounds can be found here:

CURRENT TOURNEY BRACKET (http://challonge.com/tzgce)

I worry that some of you might not like the single-elimination bracket system. But I figure that we're at the point in the contest where every character is amazing. And in the long run, there will only be one winner. And I'm in the spirit of NCAA tourney. I'm in bracket-mode. The match-ups are completely, 100% random. I'm going to give you guys a day to talk and speculate about the matches. Have fun. ^_^ The game will start tomorrow.

how about Stan vs. Indy in round 3?

Hate that too, but at least it's Round Three.

EDIT: I just checked, and you're wrong. Indy wouldn't meet Stan 'til Round Five, and Stan will be meeting Shaggy before then, so they may never meet.

vs.

Barney Fife

____________________________________________________________

I encourage you guys to add explanations to your votes.

Match 1: I vote Dr. Doom. I kinda want to vote Dr. Fate since he probably won't do as well. But I'm kinda surprised he made it as far as he did. Dr. Doom is the better character, and much more significant.

Match 2: Without a doubt, I vote Barney Fife. I've said in the past how he's my favorite TV character of all time, and I'm stunned that he's managed to make it this far. But I'll always try to make him get a little further since it's tough for a slightly obscure character to do so well. Plus, we have a lot of Disney characters and Simba is great but not one of my very favorites.

cradleman
03-15-2011, 04:09 PM
match one: doom, of course

match two: Barney Fife. hilarious and deserving of advancing(and not obscure, thecartoon, he's by far Andy Griffith Show's best character, and it's one of the most famous tv shows ever)

The Cartoon
03-15-2011, 04:11 PM
Yeah, I guess by obscure, I mean that not too many people here have seen the show.

ShadowStar
03-15-2011, 04:13 PM
For the first one: Doctor Doom. Archenemy of the Fantastic Four (especially Reed Richards), ruler of Latveria and overall a great villain. One of the powerhouses of the Marvel universe. None of the heroes are keen to mess with him. I too would have liked to see Doctor Fate advance because he was showcased very well in the DCAU and Oded Fehr's voice was perfect for him, but Doctor Doom is the better character.

For the second one: Simba. The Lion King is one of Disney's best and Simba's story is so sad. The part where his father dies, and later when Mufasa appears in the clouds... Those are some of the most iconic moments in any animated movie. And Simba was the centrepiece in the classic Circle of Life opening sequence, lest you forget. A fun character and a great hero to root for.

I honestly don't care about the first match. The second one goes to Simba for me. I like Barney but see, Simba is the main character of one of Disney's greatest. He's a fun, yet great, character.

Fate and Barney. Dr Doom does not need the help, and Barney is just a really funny guy.

SpideyFan914
03-15-2011, 06:45 PM
DOCTOR DOOM!!! He is, after all, my favorite supervillain of all time! All he really wants is power, with all humanity pushed so deep beneath the surface that he rarely ever allows it show (except for on those very few occasions, usually dealing with his mother). He doesn't have any powers, yet no one dares to defy him simply because of his vastly superior intellect. And, best of all, DOOM TALKS IN THE THIRD PERSON!!!

And Simba, for being such a great and lovable character! If Hamlet is gone ( :crying: ), then Simba must move on!

By the way, The Cartoon, quick question - ties are inevitable. In the one-on-one matches, how are we going to break them?

The Cartoon
03-15-2011, 07:01 PM
I've been thinking about that. :/ I might have a non-biased 3rd party person determine the winner, or just use a randomizer. Unless anyone has a better idea.

SpideyFan914
03-15-2011, 07:05 PM
Non-biased third party works. The best TB system is probably Johnny's, where he holds his vote specifically for ties, but I don't think anyone's going to offer to follow through with that....

The Cartoon
03-15-2011, 07:07 PM
Yeah, I know that's the best way. But I can't resist voting. :p Hopefully there won't be too many ties.

Superpan
03-16-2011, 01:27 AM
Dr. Fate Partially because he's the underdog, parially because I'm currently reading All-Star Comics Archives, and partially because I think Doom's overrated. Not bad, just overrated.

Barney Fife Also because he's the underdog and I don't want to see Don Knotts' iconic role go down without a fight.

The Cartoon

Doctor Doom wins 4-3
Barney & Simba are tied 4-4

Barney

Btw, for the 3rd party person, I'm making sure that they know both characters. And I promise you that I'm telling the truth about who they picked. Anyone who doesn't believe me, I'll take a screenshot. But I'd rather not go to the trouble.

Superman: I love Donald but come on...Superman is THE hero of our civilization! He stands for everything we value in an society and constantly inspires people to better themselves. Everyone can relate on some level to being percieved as being ineffectual, but deep down believeing we can ALL change the world for the better!

On a depressing note, my homeroom teacher can't tell the difference between Daffy Duck and Donald. Poor Donald.

Two-Face. NO CONTEST.

ShadowStar

Donald Duck for the first one. Same reason as cradleman really... I like Superman and I enjoyed his portrayal in JL/JLU, but even in Superman:TAS he was sometimes uninteresting.

The second one is a tough one for me but I'll go with Two-Face. Just so great in B:TAS, especially in the classic episode "Second Chance".

Alas, poor Donald....however, Superman's my (unrealistic) favorite to win...so yeah! :D

Eeyore. I like Barry Allen, but I can't help but love Eeyore. I mean...he's so depressing he just falls in rivers and can't get up. THAT'S a Jungian archetype. However, if Barry Allen wins, I wouldn't care.

Captain Cold. I know this is ironic, considering that I didn't vote for Flash, but..I just love this guy. He's just a criminal with a parka and a little snow pistol. Not a snow cannon, just an itty bitty snow pistol. He's also a villain with morals and the closest thing to a supervillain mob boss in comics. Whenever I think of a superpowered villain existing in our world, I think of him.

SpideyFan914

ShadowStar

Dumbledore for the first one because I don't know Zuko.

Mary Jane for the second one because she's the most important Spider-Man supporting character, and because Heath Ledger's Joker, while menacing, wasn't playful enough. He wasn't the monster of mirthful mayhem that he should've been, just a cold and calculating crime lord.

Tony Stark's ordeal with his heart made for a great origin and his subsequent battles with foes like Mandarin and Fin Fang Foom make him a fun superhero.

Scrooge McDuck is the uncle of Donald Duck who is the uncle of Huey, Dewey, and Louie.

So he's, depending on how you look at it, their great-uncle or their grand-uncle.

Six Year Man

Before I vote on the first one, I must know... is Scrooge McDuck the uncle or grandfather of those duck triplets in that animated series (I forget its name)? Or is he only in the Disney version of A Christmas Carol (where Goofy is Jacob Marley)?

As for the second one, I'm going with Moe. I can't remember who Calvin is.

Here's some help.

If you're wondering why Ludwig Von Drake isn't here, it's because he's not very popular with the creators.

Ah, thanks for the answers, guys. So is Scrooge McDuck the one who appears regularly in the same show as Huey, Dewey and Louie?

Scrooge McDuck, 'cause I'm not that familiar with him but Penguin shouldn't have made it this far.

No offense, but I don't understand the logic of votes like this. When you only know one of the two, it makes sense to vote for the one you actually know.

I get that you perceive Penguin as a threat to the other contenders but still.

Anyway, it's a hard choice. Scrooge McDuck will win anyway so I guess I'll give Penguin a pity vote, because Paul Williams as Penguin (in B:TAS) is one of the best voiceover casting choices ever. Also, "Birds of a Feather" was a great episode.

As for the second one, I'm still siding with Moe because from what's been posted above, Calvin seems to be a bit of a jerk. :p

Ha! Penguin's not a threat! I just don't really like him is all. When you think someone should've been out in round one of the prelims, and you then see them in the finals, nine times out of ten you'll want to vote against them.

Penguin (in B:TAS) has class. But oh well.

And Moe isn't? Lol.

Well... Moe has so far resisted the temptation to be as much of a jerk as he is capable of being (i.e. by making a move on Marge;)), while Calvin seems waaaay too bratty even for a child.
