And here you have it.

Spirit Detective Saga:
Vol. 1 - "Yusuke Lost, Yusuke Found" - April 16
Vol. 2 - "Artifacts of Darkness" - April 16
Vol. 3 - "A New Apprentice" - July 16
Vol. 4 - "The Gate of Betrayal" - July 16
Vol. 5 - "The Beasts of Maze Castle" - October 8
Vol. 6 - "Seven Ways to Die" - October 8

Dark Tournament Saga:
Vol. 7 - "Rescue Yukina" - December 10
Vol. 8 - "The Dark Tournament" - December 10

Remember, every date will release the Adult Swim edited video, the unedited video, and the bilingual DVD simultaneously. This is only the schedule for 2002. I'm also hoping FUNimation eventually licenses the 6 OAV series'.

[indent]I guess that also means Funimation intends to have at least 33 episodes produced by the end of the year. Considering they had probably already started editing the show before they knew it would land on Adult Swim I wonder if future episodes will be less edited. It does not look like all that much is edited right now anyway, but it will be interesting to see what exactly was taken out when the DVDs are released. Finally, while I am posting about YYH anyway, I have to say I love this show. While Gundam 0083 does hold my interest, this keeps me tuning in, or at least taping for later, each week.

One thing they've been doing for the edited version is covering over the Kana (Japanese writing) with English words. Same goes for the opening title sequence.

[indent]Will that actually be considered edited in the unedited version though? I know some will disagree with me, but I consider translating that writing to English, so it is readable by those who do not read Japanese, to be part of a good translation.

It depends on the situtation. If they're covering up every blasted sign in sight, that's overkill. If they leave unimportant signs alone, and just translate teh ones important to the plot, that's fine by me.

An alternative is to leave the original writing in place and overlay a 'subtitle' right beneath/beside it, if that won't obscure the shot too much.

As much as I like YYH, it'll be one DVD release that I'll hold off on buying till season sets are announced. Gotta save some money for my anime DVD habit somewhere(Love Hina, Berserk, Ronin Warriors, Sherlock Hound, Soultaker, GTO, DBZ(don't say anything :p ), new Slayers season 1 box, FLCL(if it's ever released :p ), etc.)

While the average release contains 4 episodes, releases with the asterik contain 5.

From what I've heard, they're going the DBZ route and are only releasing 3 episodes on the average DVD. I sure hope you're the one thats right, if thats the case I'll be boycotting the entire release. 3 eps a DVD on a 13 episode series is one thing, but on a 100+ ep series!?!?!?!

Head over to the ZStore(.com) and look at this month's releases. Eps 1-4 and 5-8 are on them.

So, the DVD is going to have 4-5 episodes per DVD? I'd be happier with 6-8 episodes per DVD, being that there are well over 100 episodes.(I dunno how many episodes there actually are..I was once told it was somewhere around 200..but, I dunno?)

[indent]There is not any precedence for 6-8 episodes per DVD. Even the Oulaw Star editions with 8-9 episodes were 2 DVD sets with 4 to 5 episodes per DVD. While 5 or 6 eps per disc may be ideal, 4 to 5 is pretty good.

I loved what Viz did with Key the Metal Idol; 7 eps on the first disc, 6 on the second and the 2 100 minute long episodes on the final one. And on a 15 ep series too, not a 100+ one. Unfortunately they (especially FUNI) love to screw with us and put as small an amount as possible, despite the fact that atleast 5 eps can be fit on a disc and have it look great (heck, the quality was great on the Key one too, despite having 7 eps on it). Its one thing when the series is short, like Lain or Gundam 0080. Its one thing when its a series like Evangelion that cost ADV tons and tons to license. But there's no excuse to have less than 5 episodes a DVD on something like Dragonball Z or Yu Yu Hakusho. -_-

As for YYH, I've heard multiple things over at AnimeOnDvd.com about the average disc only having 3 episodes on it. Having a larger amount on the first few discs is no indication of things to come; Cowboy Bebop, Escaflowne, Evangelion, Gasaraki, etc... all had an additional ep on the first few discs of their releases.

Like I said before, I sure hope I'm wrong, but so far I've seen nothing (including the link you gave me) that proves that they won't be going their typical 'screw you' route on YYH.

Here's your proof.

Thats not proof of anything. Didn't I already mention investigating that link? Like I said earlier, the episode counts for the first 2 DVDs are hardly an indication of the average. Don't be surprised when it drops to 3 eps a DVD on the 3rd disc. :(

It just doesn't make sense that they'd say they're going to release 4-5 episodes per disc and then release 3. But, you may as well believe what you want to, because you won't believe anything until you see it.

I'll remember that. YYH is one of my favorite anime shows! :D

Well, only one more day til the official release.

BTW, turns out FUNi is ending the Spirit Detective Saga on episode 21, not 24. So the only correct combination is 3 DVDs will have 4 episodes, and 3 DVDs will have 3 episodes.
