That's wonderful. And that mention of showing them on Adult Swim is a great thing...that's where they belong anyway, those and a bunch of other CN 'inmates'. I'm glad Goldberg cooled it with the insults...remember I told you we could probably work with her? As I told Jon and Jerry Beck, I will send the petition when it hits the 1000 mark (most likely tomorrow). That ought to pop the cork on the Pied Piper of Guadelupe's jug...so to speak ;)

That is certainly great news on the latest story, lets hope that CN will wake up and bring back Speedy full time on their channel.

I'm not holding my breath. I think it would be more likely that the L.A. Clippers win the NBA finals first.

Remember, Speedy's faster than any of the L.A. Clippers, too! What you need is some good ol' DALLAS MAVERICKS action. :D ;)

This is swell news indeed. VIVA LA RATON MEXICANO! SPEEDY GONZALES!

By the way, who is the Frito Bandido? I've heard that this character was banned in the 70's. What's so bad about him? And does anyone have a picture of him?

P.S. My 1st comment on the thread "It's Offical. CN doesn't give a damn!" is useless now. I have some respect towards Ms. Goldberg now.

Here are a whole lot of pictures of the Frito Bandito (http://64.41.109.149/school/bandito.html).

I still don't. If the Speedy cartoons are returned without complaints from her, that is when my feelings will change.

The best thing I see in this article is that Hispanic Online has gone to a number of different Hispanic groups and officials and have mostly found either support or (at worst) neutrality towards putting Speedy back on.

This now puts the AOL Time Warner people (and Ted Turner, if he still has any clout here) in the position of acting like the great white patron, in basically telling Mexican Americans and other Hispanics that they know what's best for you, and what's best is if you don't see Speedy Gonzales again because we know what images are bad for you and others to see, even if you don't.

Unless they can come up with their own groups/individuals who support the ban, it's going to be tough to maintain a seemlingly patronizing attitude like that for very long, or they can hope thing falls out of the spotlight quickly, though I now doubt that's going to happen.

As stated, most Hispanics don't have a problem with Speedy. It's the other politically correct people who are overly concerned. The people who do take offense should just choose not to watch.

Thanks Jack. It is really interesting to hear that a lot of those people against Speedy were getting him confused with the Frito Bandito. I've never seen him before. Does anyone know what it was about him that was so offensive? What differentiates him from Speedy?
