View Full Version : Upcoming Plans... (for Marvel Animation)

I didn't see anyone posting about this or a specific thread dedicated to it, so I thought I'd make my own.
We know "Thor: Tales of Asgard" had been pushed back, a long time ago, apparently to match up with the movie release, for sales purposes.
But what's next?
DC animation/Warner Premiere has a bunch of animated projects in the can and in the works, and lots of movies listed.
I don't see anything listed from Marvel.
We've got a Captain America movie, the X-Men movie, and a bunch of other live-action movies proposed/announced. So, they've got those tie-ins to think about.
We've got the Marvel Anime releases.
But is there ANY word on upcoming DTV animated titles?
Does anyone have any information?
Here's the place to share your scoops and hopes for future animated releases from Marvel.
Mod Note: This thread is fine, but remember we have other threads for other upcoming Marvel Animation projects and will launch new ones upon new announcements (and they are coming...). And please keep this focused on animation-related projects.

I don't work for Marvel Animation, but it's hard to release a bunch of product when the rights are scattered at various studios.
Remember Marvel still has a 7 film deal with Lionsgate. Thor: Tales of Asgard is the last of the deal, so I think now that all future animation with be under the Disney banner hopefully we'll see a change.
I think we may see an Avengers DTV by the time of the film and maybe a Spider-Man one, but I doubt we'll get an X-Men one.

Everyone seems to forget about that Marvel/Tatsunoko collaboration due out next year. TvC made me quite the Tatsunoko nut, so I'm excited at seeing how this'll turn out. From the sounds of it (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-02-24/report/tatsunoko-marvel-aim-for-joint-tv-anime-in-3-years), it actually sounds like a full on crossover with both companies' characters.
Considering it was part of a Toy deal in Japan, it probably won't be anything special and I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but damn if they pull in Production IG and we get something of KARAS quality, it could rival something like Batman Gotham Knight in the Comic Book turned Anime category (at least in visuals).

Iron Man: Armored Adventures (season two)

It is odd that we haven't had an X-Men or Fantastic Four one either yet. Maybe it's a rights thing?

Yeah. Fox still holds "feature" rights to the characters. Marvel has "broadcast" rights. Its screwy but basically means they can't make a full DTV because it would technically be a movie. That's kind of why Hulk vs Wolverine was around 40 minutes. It didn't qualify as "feature length". What they should do is make a 5 part TV or DTV series and then edit it into a movie later and call it a "special edition". ; )

I'd actually agree with putting Armored Adventures season two into this category at the moment, considering what happened with Wolverine and the X-Men season two, which was firmly announced as being in pre-production, with proposed designs even shown publically at one point, before Marvel's co-financier seemingly pulled out at the last minute. With that precedent, with IM:AA, it's now a case of "I'll believe it when I see it".

So season 2 of Iron man AA have been given the green light hmm now where have I heard that before? oh for another hit Nicktoons show called Wolverine and the x men
But seriously what has Nicktoons done to Marvel to deserve such treatment, Its been TWO years since season one ended,I'm sure it has set a record for the longest gap between seasons ,that is if season 2 still exist

It's only been a year and a few months but still they need to start giving us something to show it's coming soon.

Last year, NickToons aired promos stating that season 2 would start in 2011. If it is still coming, they were already prepared for the long wait.

I hope the second season of Iron Man: Armored Adventures is still coming; it's a pretty great show.
I'd love to see more Marvel DTV animated movies released after Thor: Tales of Asgard comes out (whenever that will be).

To add to BatfanBayond's list, a Dr. Strange film was proposed after Iron Man 3 & Ant Man.
I kinda hope for a Defenders dtv, but I think Fox owns Silver Surfer, so oh,well. I was also hoping for a really good Daredevil DTV, but well need I say more.

I'm sure we'll eventually get some more animated DTV's from Marvel, once they settle in with Disney.
I really would like a Daredevil animated feature, too, but I suppose that may be a complicated one if Fox is still holding the rights to the character.

Great thread and one of the reasons that prompted me to join was to probe this very topic a little deeper.
I'm still trying to figure out the point of all that Jeph Loeb is named "Marvel's Head of Television Development" bruhaha?? That announcement was a while ago (I think April or May of 2010) and all the programs you see now had been developed already before Loeb came on like A:EMH or MSHS.
Since the Loeb announcement not a stitch of progress or new announcements have been made in anything Marvel TV/DVDs. Every single time I read (or listened) an interview with Loeb it's a lot of melodramatic nothing shrouded in obfuscation spin lingo like "Wait for the San Diego CC announcement, all things will be cleared up in San Diego" or "We're developing so many projects and we can't talk about it at this time." or "I was at a creative retreat with Bendis, Fine, Rollman, Fraction, and Quesada and we're very close to making some huuuge announcements in the area of TV and DVDs!" Meanwhile here we are in almost March 2011 and a lot of that nothing has come to fruition.
I mean to not have ANYTHING lined up after this mysterious THOR: TALES OF ASGARD supposed next project is just not a good sign for the immediate future or Loeb. We can't even get a bead on the 2nd season if IMAA and when Loeb is asked ANYTHING by a WWW journalist (Jon Suntress interviews) he acts like this stuff is Homeland Security war room details spilling out with all this melodramatic inflection. I'm trying to figure out what exactly they're waiting for??? If it's major movie coinciding than why the heck isn't a CAPTAIN AMERICA or 616 AVENGERS DTDVD in the holster ready for June/July? No brainer....right???
Lighten up Jephy it is just cartoons but so far on your watch in the months that have gone by all I see is a lot of hot air and more tangled licenses than "Maximum Carnage".

Most likely it was cancelled. Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes and soon Thor: Tales of Asgard will be getting Thor out there for the film.
Same thing happened to a Hulk animated series, that was (I believe) recently announced dead.

INDEED and probably a BIGGER travesty in my book is to not have a CAPTAIN AMERICA animated solo DVD lined up for a major major major release like CAPTAIN AMERICA: FIRST AVENGER.
I really feel Marvel animation butchered an opportunity to piggy back in DVD off what I feel is going to be IRON MAN numbers at the BO for Cap.
If the likes of Jeph Loeb and Eric Rollman can't capitalize on THIS what in the hell are they even paying these guys for???

Ehhh....no offense but that's just not big enough for what this movie could be. They need to do the BATMAN UNDER THE RED HOOD for Cap in DVD form. Possibly a WINTER SOLDIER or like "Streets of Poison" adapation.
Plus AVENGERS EMH is shown all the time on DISNEY XD, it's hardly an event or some hard to get release.

This is the first of the Tatsunoko deal I've heard. now that Hasbro is doing marvel toys in North America, does the Takara deal still stand for Asia? Hmm.. Also, I wonder if the animation-crossover deal still stands with them. Really, it could be interesting to see the Gatchaman team with the X-Men or Fantastic Four; not sure who Speed Racer's a good fit with, hmm..

Not for us, no - but for the GP? Disney XD is a very little fish in the cable channels, and a lot of people have yet to hear of it - a copy of AEMH CA eps, and perhaps Ultimates 1 and Ultimates 2, along with the Next Avengers, in a POP display? for the GP, that would work fine with little effort.

Hey everyone!
I'm glad to see my topic sparked such fantastic responses. All the info is great.
You guys certainly know what's what, when it comes to all this stuff.
It's really sad to hear FOX holds those feature rights.
I'd love to see a Daredevil DTV, and a Fantastic Four DTV, and most importantly (for me anyway) a Silver Surfer DTV.
I hope they start cranking out more soon.
I'd love to see some more movie tie-ins.
Captain America and Spiderman getting DTVs would rock.
I'd say I'd like to see a Wolverine, or X-Men DTV, but since they're each getting an anime mini-series, I'll be okay with just that for now.

Cloak & Dagger
Punisher
Runaways (lately dropping hints that it might be a tv series instead of a movie)

The Fantastic Four (live-action film reboot),
Daredevil (live-action film reboot)
War Machine
Black Widow
Inhumans
Deadpool
Thor 2
Captain America 2
Dr Strange
Punisher (this has been mentioned for tv too, but it sure would be watered down unless they put it on HBO)
Runaways
Hawkeye
Sub-Mariner
Luke Cage
Iron Fist
and/or a Heroes For Hire combo of the above 2
X-Men First Class 2
X-Men 4
Nick Fury/SHIELD
Amazing Spider-Man 2
Silver Surfer
Blade 4
sorta Marvel
Powers (tv show)
Kick-Ass 2 (movie)
Hit Girl (movie)
Obviously, not all of these will happen. But you have to think a good many of them will. It might take another decade for those long-rumored Dr Strange and Sub-Mariner movies to finally make it to the theaters though. I probably forgot a few movies too, since there are so darn many of them in various early stages of development/script-writing. I'll betcha someone somewhere is even thinking about writing a She-Hulk script. I'll settle for Moon Knight.
Also, there are some movies that would've been on this list 2-3 years ago, that I think now are safe to probably cross off as NOT happening:
Magneto
Venom
Incredible Hulk 2
Bat-Fan Beyond

First, Let me say, thanks for the feedback and info.
Second, what have you heard about a "Punisher" show? 'Cause I haven't heard anything.
Third, I've actually been kicking around an idea or two for a She-Hulk script.
Second, what have you heard about a "Punisher" show? 'Cause I haven't heard anything.
I've seen it on the list Loeb mentioned for possible tv shows a couple times, but as I mentioned above, unless they found an ideal channel to air it on, it seems like it would be really toned down.
On the other hand, we've seen numerous tv shows featuring loner vigilantes over the years, so its not like a style of Punisher going after a different gang of bad guys every week would seem out of place on tv.
Beyond that, no specifics have been mentioned. It just seems to be in early speculation/planning phase at the moment. I certainly wouldn't count on it actually happening.
Though given the choice, I think I'd still take a watered-down live action show over an animated show. Maybe a Punisher animated DTV movie would work though. Punisher is a tough character for Marvel to handle, because his biggest fans seem to want the highest levels of violence.

This was a smart way to go since Thor and Hulk are both Avengers characters and it broadens the world a little more without having to necessarily broaden the core group.
