I'm surprised. I thought the anime was supposed to be an alternate reality. I have no idea what they're planning for Lilo.

It likely still is an alternate reality since it's not in canon with the movie.

Speaking of, if Wikipedia is to be believed (in this case), it sounds like the English version doesn't know whether it wants to be a Woolseyism or a Macekre. Also, I do believe it is an alternate reality, whereas the English dub was trying to make it look as though it's in the same timeline as the movies, etc. Maybe, just maybe, having this show air in the U.S. might not be a good idea after all (OTOH, because there is an English version, and since this is Disney we're talking about, it will probably need to be given a U.S. release sooner or later...).

I've never watched the Stitch anime, so I have no idea what the backstory to it is (if it was ever summarized on the show), but if I were to guess after watching the teaser in the first link-I would think the US franchise is considered canon.

In the teaser, Lilo gets off of a bus and recognizes Stitch (and he clearly knows her) and they hug and the teaser then shows a series of clips of the two of them doing a buch of fun stuff together.

How is the show anyway? Is it a rehash of Lilo and Stitch the Series, or is it supposed to be a remake of the first movie?

I haven't watched past the first 10 episodes, but it is hinted that, yes, this series takes place after Lilo and Stitch (sequels+ series), except there is no Lilo. Jumba even says something like, "Why is Stitch back on earth again?" That, and Stitch knows Ohana. Stitch (now in space, I guess), returns to earth after a space chase. (Kind of confusing because there isn't any explanation as to why Stitch just happens to be in space, but moving on...) Jumba and Pleakley following him, and they all end up on a Japanese island. Stitch meets and befriends a girl named Yuuna who teaches karate and lives with her grandmother because her father is always working. Also, Stitch is trying to do good deeds to get a wish, so he (and Jumba+ Pleakley) decide to stay with Yuuna and her grandmother.

He can talk to someone at Disney for tapes of the anime if he wants to see them, or at the least view what's been posted online. I'm sure he knows about the anime. AFAIK, he hasn't publicly commented on it.

Oh Mr. Sanders... if you could see what's being done to your creations... I actual started watching it once I heard the news about Lilo to 'catch up' to the event. I'd say it's better than the US TV series so far. Some of the opening and ending themes are really catchy. And this Cyber Stich seems like a pretty cool villain.

It's going to be amusing to see how the dub handles this, since in the first episode the dub made up that Lilo had grown up and had a boyfriend and had no time for Stitch anymore.

Are these episodes actually playing on the US Disney channel or are people finding them dubbed in English elsewhere?

Lilo and Stitch the original movie is one of my favorites, and I can sympathize with Lilo and relate to her on so many levels. I know Disney made at least 2 additional movies. One was a prequel the other a sequel to the story.

I'm not sure how I feel about the second series after Disney's Lilo and Stitch the animated series wasn't that good. Reminded me of Pokemon how there was I gotta catch them (Stitch's cousins) all and turn them from bad to good.

Is this like a new Anime version? I wonder if Disney Channel sold their rights for this new series to happen..
Alternate reality or having Lilo grow up will put a different spin on the show all together. I wonder what happens to Nani, David, Jumba, and other supporting cast of the show? Do they even exist on this show. Sounds like the new series is being taken into a completely new direction with new characters who are involved in Stitch's life. Maybe when "Stitch" airs in the US, we will get a chance to see it. It is at least an interesting premise....:o

I don't think one of the movie was a prequel. The was a sequel that took place before the series, a movie that started up the series and then a third movie that served as a finale to the series. Even though the series was kind of hit or miss for me, the movies for it, especially the finale, were pretty good. I think I enjoyed the direct sequel more, even though it might have been from the more emotionally touching ending.

I actually got that Pokemon-like impression too and while I love Pokemon, I didn't enjoy the animated series as much. I think it was decent at best, some of the powers Stitch's cousins were pretty cool and most of their one true places they belonged were fairly creative. It was kind of fun to watch at times, but I'm not missing it that much either.

Actually, Jumba and Pleakley are with Stitch in this Japanese island called Izayoi. From what I understand in this anime series, Stitch crashes down in a fictional Japanese island and lives with his girl, Yuna, and her grandmother. I think Stitch is trying to do some good deeds so he can get a wish, or something like that. Angle, one of Stitch's cousins, showed up a couple of times I believe as well.

I forget how Jumba and Pleakley end up on the island too, but their appearance just makes me wonder, if this does take place in the same universe, why they haven't contacted, let alone mention, Lilo before. I know that the dub has this edit that Lilo has a boyfriend and doesn't have time for Stitch, which really doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but since Jumba is able to create over six-hundred experiments, two of which he created while in Hawaii, I don't understand why they haven't tried to talk to Lilo or Nani. One thing I did like about the series and the following movies was how all of the aliens and humans showed signs of caring for each other and really were a family. I can understand that they'd want to focus on Yuna and her family, but it seems kind of weird that Lilo wouldn't pop up in the Japanese version before this episode.

I'm not sure if this dub for the Stitch anime will come to the U.S. Lilo and Stitch the series hasn't aired in a decent timeslot in ages and there hasn't been a lot of focus on the movies either. Plus, Japan is airing the third series for the Stitch anime and I think that it has around eighty episodes. If the anime was going to come to the U.S., I think that we would have heard something about it by now. It might be possible, but I don't think that it's that likely to happen either.

I'm on the third series now. They leave Izayoi Island (and the Wishing stone) and move to the city. Here there's a new woman as the villain, some alien who corrupted all the Experiments and sends them to capture Stich because he has a data chip she needs to take over the universe.

Also the third season seems a bit more.. anime-ish. Mainly the school setting with the bishounen boy and girl. Leaving the tropical island to move to the city kind of gave it a new feeling.
