A new Smurfs series is slated to debut on Kids WB next fall. According to Warner Bros sources, the new Smurfs series, will be more hip and involve some changes.
Premise of the series is two 21st century employees from a North American firm, get transported to the land of the Smurfs. Accordingly, they proceed to make over the Smurf village, and protect the Smurfs from Gargamel.
Reportedly, Smurfette will be featured prominently in the new series, as she will finally have someone her own gender to look up to. Smurfette will finally learn to drive a car, and reportedly will have a new outfit as well.
It also looks like other Smurfs will get makeovers as well. In a upcoming storyline, Lazy Smurf is taken to Cedars Sinai Medical Center, where he will be treated for chronic fatigue syndrome.
Lazy's MisAdventure In Los Angeles will be episode 2, and he'll be the first Smurf to cross over.
Farmer Smurf will also benefit in another episode, when the Smurfs are introduced to Doppler radar and television news. However, Gargamel realizes this, but not before the Smurfs create a Civil Defense.
Of course, it remains to be seen whether this series will make the Cartoon Network schedule.
On the Kids WB schedule, the new Smurfs series will be more geared toward the Dawson's Creek set.
Leather handbags have never been part of Smurfette's wardrobe, but when Brittany starts outfitting Smurfette with a "Maxi Bag" in the pilot, Smurfette learns that the change will do her good.
Smurfs fans may rue Smurfette for being a bit more hip, but WB executives are considering a "Greg the Bunny" type show for her.
