With Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers coming back via comic book, I thought I start this thread to discuess the title characters and which version of them do you prefer?
Do you like them better as the selfish jerk antagonist in the classic cartoons or the good hearted heros in the Rescue Rangers cartoon.
Some may argue, but the majority of the time in the classic cartoons they were antagonist, just like Jerry most of the time. In their debut they just pick on Pluto for no good reason other than to get a good laugh. Sure it looked bad, but when Donald make them be his bicycle pettles and Daisy dumped him for being mean to them I felt so bad for the guy, if only Daisy could have seen what they did to Donald before hand.
But anyone back to the topic hand, which personality of Chip N Dale do you prefer? The antagonist from the classic cartoons of the likeable good guys from the Rescue Rangers series.
The way I describe them, makes it look like I am very pro Rescue Ranger, but it is hard to argue they are more likeable, but the question is more which is more entertaining, I have always peferred the old Chip N Dale, they were jerks, but funny jerks. Sure I wanted them to be roasted, but them and especially teamed up with Donald were comedy gold. Though in that case, it is mostly because of Donald, the most underappreciated character ever.

I say their Rescue Ranger personalities by far. I also like that they finally had two distinct personalities (and voices). I am biased as I grew up with the Disney Afternoon so i feel RR is the "correct" version. Good poll though. I'll be interested to see what others have to say.

I disagree on that a bit. I thought in classic cartoons, they were differences in their personalties. Chip was the smarter of the two, Dale the more sadestic of the two.

Chip n Dale in the Golden Age era was the best for me.

I think your view of their personalities in the "Golden Era" shorts is a bit biased. Nine times out of ten, they were just protecting their food source. Usually from Donald Duck, who usually has it coming.
Honestly, they're both good for the format that they were in. The tiny pranksters worked well for the shorts, while the animal detective approach worked well for a half-hour series.

I liked Chip n Dale from Rescue Rangers better, in the old classics I couldn't tell who was who. They also didn't make me laugh as much doing mean things to other characters.

Maybe hindsight is what it is. The ones I most remember is their debut when they assult poor Pluto for no good reason and the one when they sabotage Donald's date with Daisy. At least Donald can be a jerk sometimes (though he is a character I tend to sympatise with when dealing with those two as well as his nephews), but picking on Pluto that is just wrong.
To answer the earlier previous post, except for the early cartoons, the way to tell them apart, Chip had a black nose, Dale had a red nose, also Dale was more chubby.

You probably picked two of the most atypical ones. The only other really atypical one is "Two Chips and a Miss", which is Chip and Dale competing over a girl chipmunk named Clarice (they should bring her into the Rescue Rangers comic as a femme fatale).
The one I always remember is the one where Donald is a lumberjack and he's trying to cut down Chip and Dale's tree. Those are the kinds of things they usually do. Either protecting the tree or protecting their food. Chip and Dale shorts tend to be a comic take on the idea of man vs nature. Donald Duck and Pluto usually stand in for man and the civilized world (even though Pluto is, well, a dog). Man comes in and tries to take what it wants without thought to what else they're effecting, and then nature in the form of Chip and Dale fight back.

Didn't Dale have a red nose in the shorts too? I thought it was pretty easy because Dale had a red nose and Chip didn't. Anyway I prefer the Rescue Rangers. I think I could really relate to the Dale in the Chip and Dale version. Dale is kind of a slacker in that show just like me.;)

Rescue Rangers for me, they had more distinct personalities and the show made them seem more likeable, that and I didn't really care for the classic cartoons.

I'll go with the Rescue Rangers version of the characters, as others have said they were given more personalities and both got their chance to shine; as well as Gadget, Monty and Zipper. I always got a chuckle out of their classic shorts; especially the one's with Donald who was usually the instigator.
BTW, I always thought it'd be kinda of cool if Donald did a guest spot on Rescue Rangers. :D
