There is a petition at GoPetition.com for Meg Griffin of Family Guy to have her own show. If anybody has the chance, go and vote. It would be great for her to have her own show instead of that horrible one called the Cleveland show.

It's a dumb idea. Seth has too many shows already, and he's currently working on a fourth one at Fox. Another Seth show is the last thing we need right now.

How can Meg run a show, anyway? Her character never mounts to anything more than a whiny punching bag. If Seth created an original female character and made her the star of a new show, it might work better, but Meg?

And it goes without saying that online petitions never work, even for things that are actually good ideas.

Unless the people signing this petition would be the ones funding and producing this show, then an online petition for a Meg spinoff is meaningless.

And there'd be no point in spinning Meg off into her own series unless the character were going to be given the Daria treatment; i.e., RADICALLY revising Meg and placing the show in the hands of a different team of writers who are able and willing to work extensively with female characters.

If it would just be the same Meg as on Family Guy with the same writers and same treatment of the character, then there wouldn't be a point to it and the show would fail instantly and epically.

A spin-off about Meg is a horrible idea. Her character isn't much of a character, although I think she is needed to make Family Guy what it is

And I quite enjoy "The Cleveland Show." :)

As much as I like Family Guy, this wouldn't work. Meg is funny because of the other characters in the show. If you spun her off, you'd have to bring half of FG's cast anyway and all you'd get is another half hour of Family Guy.

If Meg were to become the center of her own series, it would have be a very different Meg Griffin from the one than we know on Family Guy in order for it to work. This Meg would have to be more of a doer than a reactor. Also, Meg would need to be taken out of Quahog, since it wouldn't be a true spinoff if Meg were still living within the FG world. It's worth mentioning that Cleveland was for the most part a blank slate when Mike Henry wanted to spin the character off into his own series, and that (debatably) seems to be doing well. I don't care for The Cleveland Show myself, but it's still on as this writing, so I can't argue with success.

I wouldn't mind that, however, it needs to be done perfectly in order to work.

Heck, it's odd that of the spin-off that was created, it wasn't form either the most popular characters (Quagmire, Meg, and to a lesser extent, Stewie).

Thing is, if Meg's should indeed change, a side of me says that she should be more sarcastic and snarky, but we have Daria for that, right?

It really is that tricky.

If Daria doesn't come back (which would be more believable as her either a college student or already in the work force) then MAYBE I could see her in her own show--but done by people who really really would care to see this turn right. Writers who are in tune with the young female psyche and a creative team not to necessarily change Meg completely, but to flesh out her character and give her enough confidence to hold up her own show. Personally I'd love to see more of Meg. Maybe it's the female in me talking but there's probably an untapped gem somewhere inside there. But, I don't see McFarlane and his team really right for something like this.

EDIT: I so didn't see the date for this. My apologies for bumping this back up.
