I was very dissapointed when I heard that they did. Why did they? I was hoping to see Stan "The Man" Lee in the Spidey flick. I loved his cameo in X-men :D he was the hot dog guy.

You'd think that they'd let the guy who created Spider-Man have at least a cameo in the movie.

He does and doesn't. His original cameo was that he had a few ines to Spider-Man. Now it's a 'blink and you'll miss it' crowd scene. Lee says it'll be on the DVD, which apparently he'll have a part in somehow.

What happened with Stan Lee and Marvel anyway? He's doing comics for DC or something now...I think.
What the heck happened..Didn't he help found Marvel Comics ?

Basically(& these are the simplest words..), Some "bigwigs" at Marvel took control, & basically shoved Stan the Man behind a desk. He has noted on many occasions-he hates desk jobs. But, he really had no other choice. So, DC made an offer for him to "re-write" the entire(basically..) DC universe in a series of comics, with the best modern artists in the league. So, Stan took the job. I guess thats what happens when the company you founded screws you over.

So does he work exclusively for DC or does he still do stuff for Marvel. I know he's currently doing his own thing with his own characters on the net and something with Pam Lee.

Stan has a lifetime contract with Marvel. He got an honorary title, but other than that, I don't think there's much he does. I'm sure he gets paid simply because his name appears in every comic Marvel produces.
It's not an exclusive contract, obviously, because he's doing the awful Just Imagine... series for DC, and he did those webcomics on the now-defunct StanLee.net.
He definately needs to be seen in Spider-Man, the movie, tho. After all, he did create the character.

If it is only a cameo, why should it matter? This is like when Star Wars fans made a hissy fit when they found out that 'Nsync was making a cameo. The fans temper tanrum made the Lucas and the editors take the small part.
Is everyone now not going to see Spiderman because of that?
I would hate to see a good movie lose fans because of that

Just read an interview with Raimi. Stan Lee is still in.
He also mentioned that Bruce Campbell will have a part in the sequel and that after Spiderman he would like to do either Evil Dead 4 or Green Lantern. None of that is concrete, of course, but that is what HE said he would like to do.

It's not that important -surely? I mean, he's voiced over in most of the cartoons, appeared in the 90's SMan cartoon, popped up in X-Men... do we need another Hitchcockesque cameo?
It really doesn't bother me either way - I rather they concentrate on making a darn fine movie! :D

I'll second that.
I hope Lee does get cut, in the end, because thanks to all those annoying voiceovers I really hate him. I respect his contributions to the comics world, but his line delivery and the things he says really irritate the heck out of me. If he's there it'll take me out of the movie because, hey lookee there it's the "Greetings....True Believers" fool.
