I'm jumping on Quagmire's bandwagon in the fact that I'm really starting to hate Brian. I'm just going to start avoiding the episodes where he's got the A-plot when it doesn't involve a road trip with Stewie.

It's a clear indication of the direction that this show has gone in over the years.
In the early episodes, he was the voice of reason among the insanity. Now, he's just as nuts as the rest of them, only in a different (and, much more annoying) way. His basic purpose now is that of being Seth's soapbox, and not much else.
This episode, by the way, really was not the "throw a bone to the conservatives" thing that it was being billed as. It was just as insulting as the usual FG political flare, only this time, he had a celebrity voice to knock around as well.
