I think that the title pretty much says it all. I'm calling for the removal of Ms. Goldberg and the appointment of Jerry Beck. :)

Laurie Goldberg is president of Cartoon Network, as I understand, from her comments on Fox News Channel in my other thread, "It's official....Cartoon Network doesn't give a damn!"

She isn't the president of Cartoon Network. She is just the public relations (http://news.awn.com/index.php3?ltype=top&newsitem_no=6275) person.

Uh, dendawg, Ms. Goldberg isn't the president. She is senior vice president of public relations. I know that she is being a pain, but this petition is ridicoulous.

I stand corrected. :o I still think her comments were totally out of line, and that she needs to be replaced, and I stand by my petiton 100%.

Because she's a woman?!
If that's what you're saying, Martin, then rest assured I'm not trying to be sexist. I wouldn't care if she were a man, either, what she said is just plain wrong.

While I think those comments were ridiculous, I do not think that a petition to remove her gives the fans much credibility. She makes us mad because she accuses us and our cartoons. Why should we accuse her? She doesn't know any better, this is obvious. In fact, call me naive, but maybe it is our job not to have her removed, but to help her understand better these things:
a.) there are many fans of classic cartoons
b.) (most) classic cartoons transcend all borders, all ages, all ethnicities. No other cartoons appear to do this. They are truly universal entertainment. They are based on exaggeration and caricature, and these principles do not necessarily promote racism or bigotry. They urge people to look at themselves and laugh.
c.) The reason that there are so many fans of classic cartoons and so many complainnts about their censorship is that they mean something to us as a culture. "Edd Edd and Eddy" or "Goober and the Ghost Chasers" will be forgotten, but Looney Tunes have survived for more than 70 years. That does not make "Edd Edd and Eddy" or "Goober" less enjoyable, just different. Classic cartoons deserve respect. They are not, first of all, for children, they are for all ages. This means that their humor is simple and entertaining, they are not meant to warp anyone's mind, just soften their hearts. They are designed to promote laughter, and if you don't like it or understand it, don't attack it and try to shove it under the rug.
-the reason I say this is that there are and will be others, people whose lack of understanding of something leads them to attack it. It's human nature. But if you're going to be in charge of a newtwork that shows cartoons, learn something about them, and learn to either respect the diverse appeals of different types of animation, or let someone else handle the division of it you don't get.
No, Dendawg, I didn't sign it. It's not that I don't think Laurie Goldberg is an enemy to classic cartoon fans, or that she is obnoxious and a bigot. But I also don't think whining about her and attacking her personally is the way to stop the problem. If we want our cartoosn back, maybe she can help. Let's make her understand, not attack her.

The vice president of public relations is probably little more than a mouth piece for the higher-ups.
Remove her and another will be hired to take that position.
Removing her would be pointless.
Plus, this petition will probably be ignored anyway.

This petition will definitely be ignored. Online petitions don't work. (http://www.snopes2.com/inboxer/petition/internet.htm)
If you want to make your voice heard, write a letter (on REAL PAPER) to Cartoon Network.
Encourage your cartoon-lovin' pals to do the same. Anyone can write an email in 30 seconds-- but it takes honest-to-goodness EFFORT to write and print (or handwrite) a letter, toss it in an envelope, slap a stamp on it, and throw it in the mailbox on your way to work.
