This is the talkback thread for New Tangled Viral Video (http://www.toonzone.net/news/articles/35024/new-tangled-viral-video).
It's official. I hate Disney's marketing team.
The trailer had me nervous with the "been grounded like forever" line, but now I've completely lost faith. It's like they want this to fail.

Disney is trying desperately for this not to be a repeat of what happened to The Princess and the Frog in the US, so they're going for this "yuk-yuk, look how irreverent we're being!" shticky approach rather than simply marketing Tangled as the next Disney Princess movie.

That...is...TERRIBLE. Imagine Beauty & The Beast advertised like this. Even if the movie turns out to be good, I have no desitre to see it based on any of the footage I've seen to date.

i think a post from cartoon brew best describes what I think about modern disney right now:
" Disney sucks.
Do we need to elaborate any further on this? Every major decision they make is by committee thereby ensuring the direction will be gutless, the creativity will be watered down and they cater to the lowest common denominator. – AND no one will ever answer for these decisions, because it was made by a group of twelve execs. No fall guy ever.
There is no intrepid thought in any of their processes and all creativity is interpreted as ‘risky’ by the group think. I thought it was bad before I had the direct experience of working with them, and now I know its ten times worse than I though.
The people who work there will defend it on the basis that they pull a good paycheck and wonderful benefits but beyond that, its a cesspool of mediocrity. They should knock down the whole lot, fire everyone, and start over. Short of that, we will continue to endure bland garbage releases. One, ofter another, after another. " - Karl Magnus

I was going to ask if anyone's getting tired of the "Double Rainbow" meme that's been doing wonders for Cartoon Network with Adventure Time but it seems clear that this film could be Disney's attempt to get out of the CG business. Think about it. Without Pixar, there would be no way the company would had made a lot of people predict will make it to the Oscars next year. With Toy Story 3, this film is stale. Even the folks on The Rotten Tomatoes Show lost faith in the film when the teaser trailer was released. Thank goodness I didn't have to deal with it when I saw TS3 again on Labor Day.

The marketing is so terrible its sad. Since I know that it is going to be a typical Disney feature, I plan on seeing it. If you are not a cartoon fan you probably wouldn't know that and think that it is just a Shrek-esce fractured fairy tale.

While I found the video to be amusing, I don't think it was a good way to advertise the movie. If I did not know better I'd think its a Dreamworks movie not a Disney one.

Exactly what I was thinking. It doesn't advertise the movie very well at all.
And I'm probably late on everything but I didn't get the source material so I had to look up Double Rainbow on youtube. Funny, but I don't see what it had to do with Tangled.

Oh, what on earth was that? Why Disney? You were so good. That was among the worst things I have ever seen: the Battlefield Earth of viral videos.

Please tell me Lasseter didn't have any word on this!

I doubt it, he's the one who has spoken out against the people in marketing about the release dates of Princess and the Frog and Bolt. Or at least I hope one of the forces behind Pixar would not touch this video with a ten thousand foot poll.

i'd say Walt was turning over in his grave, but I suspect he already did one of those when Home on the Range came out.

I did laugh at it, but as said, it's not the way to advertise the film. Then again, trying to have a spunky princess and a flaunting prince for the tale of Rapunzel and naming the story "Tangled" isn't exactly how I would tell the story in the first place.
I don't know, the way they're advertising this movie feels like it's a direct-to-television movie meant only for Disney Channel. I never get this sense of "epic tale on the big screen" sort of thing but more like a "DTV Disney sequel" feeling.
I still laughed, but again, that doesn't suite Disney at all. Heck, it doesn't suite anyone. It's extremely hard to have internet humor on something other than the internet, especially since it's a very small group you're trying to amuse.
Things like Mudkip jokes only work on the internet, if I saw that as an advertisement for Pokemon, I would feel awkward.
The only people I can think of that can "pull off" internet humor without being on the internet is Adult Swim.
EDIT: I would accept this trailer if it was a side-joke made by the staff not intended as a trailer for the movie or if it was even made by some YouTube guy online with editted clips of the original trailer, but any other circumstance, it's hard for me to accept it.

All I can think of now is how pissed the people who made Tangled are about this. They were not happy with the teaser trailer either.
From here: http://www.latinoreview.com/news/el-guapo-presents-a-sneak-peek-at-disney-s-tangled-11091
I can tell you that some shots shown in the trailer, like Flynn first entering Rapunzel's tower and being attacked by her hair in the shadows were not in the final version of the movie.
Enforces my theory that the Disney marketing department is on crack.
Edit: You guys think that they will do the Bed intruder song next? XD
