Well, it looks like I'm gonna have to miss "Episode XVIII" tonight, as well as every other episode for the next week or two. The antenna I was using to get CN with short-circuited last night (and it just came back from the factory on Monday! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!)
What'd I miss, and what am I going to miss?

Well...this episode ruled as usual. Here's basically what happened.Jack faced the difficult task of defeating these robots that were created by a scientest working for Aku. The robots were powered by Aku, and gave Jack a real hard time. These same robots viciously sliced their way through villages searching for Jack. Jack was deated by these robots at first, so he had to rely on the scientest's help in defeating them. The scienist was eager to help Jack, because Aku had used the robots to destroy his village. With a robotic arm, Jack successfully defeated all but one of the robots. He had to call upon his ancestors for strenght to defeat the last one.
Next weeks episode is also going to great, because we get some insight on Jack's past!

Hey! I liked this episode!
The part where SJ uses the will of his ancestors, was cool! :)
But I can't wait to see what's next episode, will be like.
However I will agree that the Mad Scienist dude was a goofball.

I think Extor the scientist was supposed to be like Dexter. They are both white lab coat wearin scientists with glasses, but that could be all scientists :D . Uhhh...... HIGH FIVE, come on, HIGH FIVE.

Did you notice Extor had exactly the same voice as that Dr. Frink guy on 'The Simpsons'?
Who, in turn, seems to've been based on Jerry Lewis' 'Nutty Professor.'

Wouldn't be the first celebrity likeness
2 of the Tricerraquinns talked like Ringo Starr & Sean Connery.
And I think Gordo was supposed to be like Randy Savage.
And I might be crazy but I think the Creaturelites were supposed to be David Spade-caricatures (small, annoying, yeah whatever!)
and the board is right
Extor is a hybrid: Dexter meets Jerry Lewis, voiced by Prof. Frink (or an amazing copycat)
This episode restored my faith in Season 2. For a while the show was getting to be silly (Jump Good, the Scotsman Part II, & Tales of the Samurai)
So far the best eps are The Archers, Eekra, Magma, the Marauders, Mad Jack, & the Dome. I liked Jackie the Blade too. Aku's fables were interesting.

Plus, I loved all the robotic voices.
I love robots...and I love when robots speak.
The greatest talking robot of all-time is Soundwave, but the Maruaders had tight vocals. As did that dying robot from the second village.

What were "Eekra", "Marauders", and "Mad Jack"?

Eekra was the ep w/ the warrior woman: the ending RIPS!!!
The maruaders ere the 8 death-droids created by Extor
Mad Jack was when Aku created a doppleganger of Jack.

Heh heh. Anyone else noticed just how GOREY the slaughtered robot village was? I know they were just robots (And that was likely the ONLY reason it got past the censors) but impalings, simulated blood (oil) everywhere, heads smashed againt walls with eyes and viscera (wires) everywhere. :) Almost creepy. Imagine if this DID have a higher rating...;)

That was certainly disturbing to me. Makes me wonder if they'll stick to a PG rating in the two movies, or if we're going to see some harsher stuff. :(

I hope not *much* harsher. That would be a distraction from the beautiful animation- it deserves better.

Here's my review of that ep.
XVIII - 18 - Ultra Robots
Another amazing, emotionally intense episode.
The first half is devastating. The scenes of the tortured robots nearly went too far, but I think they managed to walk the fine line once again. In a way, the horror is still somewhat in our minds. A young kid just sees smashed-up machinery. Older kids and adults realize the brutal carnage that's implied.
The battles in the second half are some of the best yet. Let alone the WOW finish.
To see Jack run and hide in fear was quite a surprise. After what the Ultra Robots had done to the three villages, however, who could blame him?
When Xtor brought out the power gauntlet, I thought, "Oh no, Jack's going to look really dumb with that on." I should have known better! His battle with each robot was superbly rendered.
The end was simply astonishing. Some fans complained it seemed a bit of a deus ex machina. However, I think that it remained true to the series' use of Japanese beliefs and samurai tradition. The Japanese did venerate and pray to their ancestors, and samurai did often credit their swords with mystical powers. Besides, if you can accept Aku, why not accept that there are beings of equal power who oppose him?
Plus, the Jerry Lewis's Nutty Professor tribute with Xtor is a lot of fun.
Some favorite moments:
Jack's puzzlement at the obscure ritual greeting of "high five."
When Jack prays to his ancestors to help him "send this abomination back to--" and there's a quick cut to Xtor. A clever way to avoid any possible bad language, perhaps?
Aku's tag line, quoted by Anarky above: "Aaaaargh! The sword! The samurai!"
And, of course, being a Jack fangirl, I loved seeing Jack all BC during the fights.
Peace ~ Donna

Yah, the begining did kinda freak me out a little. That scientest guy got on my nerves. But all an all, another enjoyable episode. I especially loved the end, when Jack when looked to his ancestors for help in defeating the final robot!

Hey, are we going to see any more reviews and critiques by Lyra?
I missed her wit and wisdom on the Woollies episode, but particularly on the Gangsters one. That's one that I think has most inspired SJ fans to dream of jumping into Jack's world... and giving him a whack upside the head! "What?! You mean you believe they're going to return the jewel, those--those--you---gaaaaahhh!"
Peace ~ Donna
