Last time: Ichigo vs Grimmjow continued as Ichigo gained the strength to slash down Grimmjow thanks to Orihime cheering him on. As Grimmjow kept trying to fight back, he remembered the days when he met his fraccions and was eating hollows to his way to the top. Yet even with his strongest attack, in the end Ichigo's will to save Orihime and take his friends home was able to finish Grimmjow off once and for all. Ichigo then goes up to greet Orihime and Nel and gets ready to depart to go and get everyone else..

Today: Something completely different! In the Soul Society, a new captain has been chosen for squad 3 to replace Gin Ichimaru, his name is Shusuke Amagai. But right now Kira is having a hard time getting use to this new change...

Note: Bleach is entering a completely different arc, and it's a filler arc to boot. Basically the Amagai arc does not fit anywhere in the Bleach timeline at all and should not be considered canon, just take this like a very long movie. ....A 22 episode weekly movie. After the next 22 episodes, Bleach will continue the Hueco Mundo arc where it left off.

You forgot to mention this is the first episode done in wide screen. So this is kind of historic Bleach episode.

Say what you want about the episodes, but I love the OP, and the ED is good too.

It is funny though that this arc has two ED, and each one suggests opposite ships. The first ED is pro IchigoxOrihime and the song is good too so it is one of my favorite. The second ED is pro IchigoxRukia and the prefect example of the makers of the animes pushing their shipping agenda over what Kubo has stated many times, Ichigo and Rukia are just friends and nothing more. So it is like they each get equal time.

Of course we won't see that here with ED. I hope they don't edit the OP like they have done with Fullmetal: Brotherhood and Kekkashi, but I am afraid they will.

This arc has one OP and two ED. However there are two version fo the OP, half way through the arc part of the background it changed a bit. But there is no guarantee VIZ will use both versions at all. VIZ is normally cheep with that stuff. They were nice enough to use all 13 versions of ED 3, but other than that like for example OP 4 had one that changed ever week but VIZ just used one or ED 5 that also changed half way through.

Well try and catch this episode in some form man. These episodes need to be Anime Abominated even more then the Bount Arc. Trust me there's loads of materials for a great set of reviews here espiecally when... well I'm not saying but if you saw it you know when.

Off Topic I think this is the first time an AS card has admitted when an episode is filler (they said this is filler in a card promoting Bleach). Oh also with this episode Bleach becomes the longest running anime on Adult Swim episode wise (Passing Inuyasha) and I believe second highest overall after King Of The Hill.

But I'll stick around. If I can make it through the Bount arc I can make it through this.

I am personally betting on the OP getting edited too even though it's not necessary for time. It seems that extras are not going to be on AS broadcasts anymore.

So this set of filler is decent...? I didn't watch much of the Bount arc outside of an episode that really made me hate Uryuu and another one with some weird/ugly animation of Kenpachi's back/head.

Can't say for certain that I'll actually stick around (heck, I haven't watched Bleach dubbed for quite some time now, outside of Diamond Dust Rebellion a week or 2 ago), but I may try out a few. Are the fights at least decent enough? (I'm really comparing it to the newest filler since I liked a lot of fights in that one)

Yeah me too, and I will get to the other new characters in next week's talkback thread, but I wonder who will voice Amagai. Maybe he will be the same guy that voices Masamori.

Part of me is happy this arc will not have double airings because that gives the manga more times to get ahead of the dub. Shonnen Jump is already ahead, Volume 32 comes out this Wendsday and that one will catch up to the end of episode 167 and the beginning of episode 190. The manga should be ahead of the anime like in Japan. I don't know why I feel that way, but I do.

I'm gonna have to disagree, the arc was bogged down because the new filler characters were terrible (you'll see what I'm talking about) and the story...well filler, and the animation didn't sustain my interest to keep watching. The only thing it has an advantage over the Bount arc is that it's immensely shorter

He is a mixture of Captain Kyoraku and Captain Ukitake. He has Kyoraku's laid back attitude, and is always on his back like Ukitake.

Great episode which I'm give this bad filler arc a chance as much as I'm curious to hear the new filler characters' English dub voices,

The highlights:
Opening 8 is awesome which the little blonde girl does look like V.V. from Code Geass & the new filler villains are cool which the major filler villain is some old monocle guy and those ninjas & that purplehaired ninja remind me of Kakashi, hehehe.
I love Shusuke Amagai who's the most awesome filler character ever & his dub voice is great:D.
Makoto Kibune is interesting who's so a combination of Kabuto/Uryu/Szayel which those glasses characters always have that sinister vibe.
It's always great to see the hot Rangiku which I SO forgot that she has the voice of Mai & Sharona, my other favorite hot chicks from Yu-Gi-Oh!/Shaman King which is sweet, hehehe, I knew her voice was so familiar:eek:.
Captain Amagai is so hilarious for being an alcoholic next to Rangiku, hahahaha, but nice that he's a combination of Shunsui/Jushiro due to laid back/friendly personality:D:anime:.
You gotta love Captain Amagai's powerful fighting style during the Hollow fight.
So hilarious that Captain Amagai to still drunk at the end, hahahahaha, which he learned the cool Drunken Sword technique, hehehe.
Ending 15 was pretty sweet with more Orihime along with Tatsuki/Chizuru in it which is nice & the new young filler blonde girl as well.
Arrancar Encyclopedia:Gin talks about Ichigo's Hollowification process & Ichigo showing up made it funny, hahahahaha.

I love that cool Super Mario Brothers picture with Ichigo in it, animePWNS, hehehe, which I'm still a big Super Mario Brothers fan.

It is not 20+ episode, but there is a fan service filler episode down the line, though it is based on an idea from the manga that they extended to a whole episode.

I was under the impression that a requirement for graduating from the soul reaper academy was the ability to perform shikai.
Yet none of the members of Squad 3 (except for Izuru) released their zanpakuto when fighting the Menos. Even more messed up is the fact they were able to cut the Menos. Their blades should have bounced off.

Yeah, I shouldn't look too deep into the filler, but it gives me something to do.

Anyway its tough to say how Amagai sounds. I dislike the mispronunciation of his name though I kept wanting to say (ah ma gai) he sounds okay so far I have to admit. He keeps the (at least introductory) shy demeanor he had in the japanese vocalization and I do like the way the inflection of voice keeps his relatively shy demeanor. Although him being drunk is priceless =)

Ok, let me see if I got this right....I'm-a-guy sounds like Hat-and-Clogs, and fights with a tuning fork, Ichigo only appears in the intro this week, trying to save princess V2, Pink haired Arrancar is now 3rd seat in Gin's old squad, and this happens before or after the Arrancar arc???
Still, this was interesting, or should I just say different? Call me a conspiracy theroist, but the 'reqest' not being recieved thing just screams suspicion to me. What exactly happened on the 'expitditionary force' mission that we know nothing about, and who were the Captains who approved this guy and his 'buddy'.
Off topic a little, I thought it was funny that this new captain got drunk of one drink, while I was kill the end of a case of tasty adult beverages myself, lol.

This quote is just hilarious. Aizen has his stone chair at Viz Headquarters (or whatever headquarters makes this show), drinking his tea and saying "Ichigo will sit in limbo for the next 5 months!" *sips tea*.

Of all the Squads without Captain, wouldn't it make more sense to assign a new Captain to Squad 5. As far as needing leadership they need it the most, they are in shambles. At least Squad 3 and 9 had Lt. who are physically and more important mentally able to lead for the time being. Squad 5 has no one. They not only lost their Captain, but Lt. are in acoma and is mentally unstable.

Though I am of the belief that Toshio has tooken Squad 5 under his command, so when orders are needed for them, Toshio or Rangiku can assign them and enforce them. So if you go by that logic, than maybe Squad 3 needs the new Captain, if Squad 5 are unofficinally temprary merged with Squad 10.
