View Full Version : Worst Work That Shows Everything That is Wrong with Modern Society (nominations)!
Superpan

That's right, IT'S SUPERPAN TIME AGAIN!
Have you seen a work that you did not hate, but rather filled you with sorrow and despair for mankind? A work that so fills you with contempt for what society has become that you go lie on your couch and wonder why you were born in this time period? No? Well, this will be a short thread, so just ignore it.
Look for Greatest Work next summer.
Here are the rules
There will be 64 noms. This thread won't need much more.
You can nominate any work made since or primarily in the decade consisting of 2000-2010.
By "work", I mean something meant to primarily entertain. Film, video games, comics, fast-food sandwiches etc. No politics, most philosophies (Eat Pray Love type of philosophy is okay to nominate), and also most religious things.
YOU MUST HAVE REASONS TO NOMINATE SOMETHING. A work must reflect or showcase a problem in society, not because it is overrated or you don't like it. That can be another thread down the road. Look below for my examples
Please keep all discussions intelligent and civil.
The Dark Knight Strikes Again- Incomprehensible storyline only based on action, violence, and overblown characters, gratuitous sexualizaion of women, unrealistic political satire, destruction of basic ideas (characters) to fit author's agenda
Transformers 2- Too long, objectifies women, overblown violence, racist caricatures that are "okay".
Zoey 101- Characters use torture and are allowed to get away with it, are amazingly self-centered, have unrealistic demands on life, and show kids poor stereotyping of individuals
I'll think of a fourth one later (I want to include the Room in this, but can't quite nail down the reasons)
The list will be added once more people start nominating. GO!!!!

I don’t believe there are very many that legitimately qualify for this thread, but I think we can all agree on BMX XXX (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMX_XXX). I would have loved to attend that meeting. “Hey, those BMX games were always kind of fun, but do you know what they were sorely lacking?” “Decent characters? An interesting story? More tricks?” “No… topless women! We’ll be rich, man! Rich!” The quote below is really all you need to know about why this deserves to make it far into this competition.
The game was originally intended to be a Dave Mirra title without nudity, but it was generally believed in the industry that the game was of low quality (upon release, its average review in the gaming media was 60%, which is considered to be below average). Acclaim decided late in the game's development to attempt to create a controversy and hopefully prop up sales by including some nudity.

In addition to Transformers 2, which you already mentioned....
Jennifer's Body- Another Megan Fox film! Whaddaya know? (I have a feeling we'll get a lot of those....) This was the one that no one really wanted to see, but they did anyway because it has nude Megan Fox.
Family Guy- Oh, come on! You KNEW this was coming! It runs on stupid humor to appeal to the idiocy of the average American. And it worked. Props.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine- Of all the superhero movies I've seen, this one's by far the worst. Just threw in a parade of characters to bring in the audience, then stitched a few fight scenes together with what could technically be considered a plot.
Gears of War- The entire pitch for the game is blood and guts. Do I really need to spell it out for you?
What makes these hard to think of is that you usually just forget about them a week later.... I'm tired right now, but I'm sure I'll get more later. ;)

Soap Operas - The largest slap in the face to television entertainment in history.
'Something' Movie - You know what I'm talking about. Those "movies" that have come out over the past decade. e.g, Scary Movie 1-4, Superhero Movie, Date Movie, Epic Movie, Meet the Spartans and Vampires Suck. I agree some (Though not all) of these movies deserve to be ridiculed and laugh, but the sad fact is that the movies spoofing them are ten times worse then the material they're mocking. So where are the spoofs that spoof spoofs movies? Huh?

Let me just make sure this up here:
Twilight: I know the books have some fans but hear me out. Ever since they became worldwide phenomenons, the state of Young Adult's literature has really suffered. Currently, I don't read that much as the young adult section filled with Twilight rip-offs, and about fifteen copies of each Twilight book. Not to mention that the books themself have terrible characterization and are just plain bad prose.

TMZ.com (seriously, our society is concerned with millionaires and how they dress, who they date, etc. kinda sad)
40-Year Old Virgin (I realize that i am the same guy who loves American Pie, Family Guy, and the like, but for me, this movie was just so over the top awful and downright dirty i just couldn't watch it. The jokes are the dirtiest of any movie i can remember, and it just paints a bad picture of society as a whole)
The Simpsons(spideyfan's reasons about family guy, excepting relating to an awful show and not a great one like family guy)
"Sexy B***h" by David Guetta ft. Akon (the radio edit of the song while catchy is bad enough(Sexy Chick). but this one kind of gets the whole thing wrong. when it goes "I'm trying to find the words to describe this girl without being disrespectful" and those words are "Damn, girl, you's a sexy b***h" there is something wrong with society. chivalry is dead)

Furbbies are from the 90's, and it has to be from the 2000's and 2010.
So Family Guy (90's) and The Simpsons (80's) can't be nominated.

I got two more, both movies.
The Last Airbender: So much potential wasted. This movie completely ruined the great show with its awful writing, terrible acting, mispronouncations, ruining the simple Firebending lessons, and slowing down bending to be more of a dance. Just awful.
Shark Tale: I was going to just nominate DreamWorks in general, but they have been getting better since Kung Fu Panda. However, this movie just shows you how awful they can be. It has pop-culture jokes outdated even when the movie first came out, unfunny stereotype characters, bad writing, and a wasted cast. Another horrible film.

Oh, well, uh.... *looks the other way*
Family Guy's still running, by the way - that makes it eligible, I believe. Simpsons doesn't show anything wrong with modern society. :p
Also, Shrek 3 - took a great franchise and just drove it into the dust for the sake of milking it for all it's worth.

Here's three.
Unnecessary Deep Frying: French fries or chicken nuggets are fine, but battering and frying things like Snickers bars, bacon wrapped macaroni and cheese, or butter isn't doing anyone a favor.
Dance Remixes: There are plenty of songs on the radio that are danceable on their own. Adding additional beats or increasing the speed can sometimes hurt the song.
Jon and Kate Plus 8: The show started out as a fun little show about a couple, their twins, and their sextuplets. By the fifth season, it was the couple defending their kids from the paparazzi, while struggling to recover from Jon's affair. The series was resolved with a divorce and Jon being removed from the show.

Y'know, I'm surprised more horror movies haven't been nominated. Is that because nobody here actually watches them enough to know any?
I'll throw out Paranormal Activity, considering that it's another one of those movies without plot that's just made to scare people who like to be scared.
Daredevil - Pretty lousy flick with revolved around cool action scenes and hot girls.
Punisher - Same reason as above, but even moreso.
One More Day - Do I really need to give a reason?
And, let's see.... how about Ultimate Spider-Man (the upcoming series) - It's replacing Spectacular Spider-Man, that should be reason enough.
(PS: That last one was a joke.)

Rules 34 and 36. Anyone who knows what they are knows why they deserve to be nominated.
Also, the rap duo known as "Insane Clown Posse". They proudly call themselves the most hated band on earth, and their fanbase, "Juggalos" are almost sub-human in their values.
The Cartoon

If they can be really broad, I want to nominate "Slasher Films." It's hard to pick out specifics when they're all about the same. But if that's not allowed:
Halloween Franchise
Friday The 13th Franchise
Reason: Nothing but mindless killing. But it makes a ton of money by feeding off people's fear.
I'll add more if/when I think of them.

"Tik Tok" - Ke$ha: it's a celebration of partying and getting drunk, but instead of being kind of funny like Katy Perry and Lady Gaga's songs like that, it's just a crappy song with a white girl attempting to rap. and yet everyone loves it. i don't get it.
"Take It Off" - Ke$ha: the title kind of gives this one away

I nominated Shark Tale already, and it's not on the list.
Shipping: Or rather disturbing shipping. I'm okay with people wanting two people with evidence in the show that they may like each other wanting them to get together, but sometimes it's just disturbing. Sometimes, people suggest homosexual relationships, incest, or even both. I have seen all these for shows such as Avatar: The Last Airbender, Danny Phantom, and even Phineas and Ferb. If you are thinking about this kind of thing, for those children's shows, you're just plain disturbing.

Okay, I'm sure I can think of something... I GOT IT!
Justin Bieber: Never mind the fact that he can't sing well, ever since he became big just for looking good and having a YouTube account, it's now a big hobby for people to record themselves in their room singing in hope of getting famous. Most of the time, this is the only thing they will do, as in, they won't go out for talent shows, choir, or just anything that involves singing in public. You can't become a big star if you have no people skills!
And here's another one if you truly need it. It's kind of a joke, and kind of not.
The General Movie-Going Public: If you post in the Weekend Box Office threads, you know exactly what I'm talking about. If you don't, well, this is pretty much the excuse for everytime a bad movie does good (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, The Twilight Saga) and everytime a good movie does bad (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, The Princess and the Frog.) It's also brought up when certain movies (Toy Story 3) don't break certain other movies' records (Shrek the Third.)

1. Darklordavaitor, what were your three nominations?
2. Looking over the list, we have alot of nominations that don't fit my criteria. "Sexism", "The General-Movie-going public", fanbases, and some REALLY generic categories like Reality shows and infomercials. So we may have to debate those if they should be replaced by more specific or different things since I would want elements like sexism discussed through the works themselves rather than address them directly. That way, we get more interesting responses.
3.When I was typing the list, I originally wrote "Justine Bieber". For some reason, I find that hilarious.

I don't mind having broad things like Sexism, there are tons of examples of it so it's hard to make specifics. Even though I like some reality shows and can't stand others, I think it would still be better to keep it as one nomination.
And I'd like to nominate "Animal Cruelty In TV/Movies." I've noticed this especially in shows like Family Guy, and some sitcoms and movies. It really bothers me every time I see it and immediately makes me hate the episode/movie. I just don't feel like there is any point in that sort of humor.

Okay, I was going to pass after all, but here are three I can give you right now:
-The recent work of Jerry Bruckheimer- Pirates, National Treasure, Coyote Ugly, Prince of Persia, everything that can be eligible. The guy keeps on producing one cheap thrills pic after another with little to no substance, and they keep on sucking the light in the box office. I can't remember the last movie he was behind that I liked.
-Vampire Weekend- Everything that is wrong with indie in one act.
-Metallica's St. Anger/Death Magnetic- Or you can call this one Metallica in the 2000's to keep it short. Everything wrong with mainstream metal in one act.

OK I think you're referring to one of my nominations. If you really need to change it you can change to "Phillip DeFranco Show" from YouTube because that's where the "girls-belong-in-the-kitchen" thing really got popular.

Oh, I appreciate your enthusiasm, but I'm on quite the waiting list. We may be able to start once Greatest Episode ends. So, possibly by the end of the week.

No, Greatest Spider-Man Villain is in front of you. (Which I must admit is definitely good - as much as I'm looking forward to this, I don't know how long I'll be able to stretch out RTW VII, and Johnny can't do the next one until after Greatest Spidey Villain.)

So I know the nominations are closed, but I feel we should make room for the 4-Post Rule as a nomination!
