View Full Version : The Boondocks - "It's Goin Down" [8/15]

The season finale airs tonight at 11:30 PM Eastern. This may well be the series finale unless a miracle happens. The ratings do justify a renewal. This season has been achieving the highest ratings in the show's history, beating out the Sunday airing on Family Guy on a consistent basis(at least in the 18-34 demo). Also, AS is billing this episode as the "season finale" in promos. However, the show has gone through numerous production delays and this was billed as the last season by Aaron McGruder before Sony execs told him to keep quiet. What will happen? Only time will tell.
Here is the synopsis:
A terror attack near Woodcrest is imminent, and retired domestic terrorist Huey Freeman is the main suspect.
Broadcast Order: Season 3, Episode 15
Production Order: Season 3, Episode 5
Writer: Aaron McGruder
Director: Sung Hoon Kim

I love Boondocks but I want it to end while its good. Season 3 isn't bad but its the worst out of the 3.

Please enlighten me on how Season 2 was better than Season 3. Not trying to be cute, I genuinely want to know.

So will this be the final episode? With the amount of time it takes to make a whole season, who knows? Though the way the ratings have been turning out, I wouldn't count this show out yet.
I for one hope it isn't the final episode. This show's too good to last just three seasons.
"Allah, make my testicles strong against the boot of evil!"
Someone's future wife is going to be VERY disappointed.
According to an AS bump, there may be a season four. Let's keep our hopes up...

iPhones are okay, but I draw the line at iPads. I prefer my computers with keyboards. And browsers that use Flash.

How much more old school can some one get than tying some one to a rocket? Maybe he could have had some one he loved tied to a train track.

Or maybe dangling over a tank full of sharks with rocket launchers strapped to their heads.
A school bus is the last thing that should be shot at.
Well, crap, they need that much artillery to take down a retired domestic terrorist?

Those 24 scenes are hilarity. A cow, a stripper in a thong.
I can see why they saved this ep. as a finale. Only fitting it should end with the "main character's" story.

I confess this would be a good way to end the series, with all the crazy government things Huey has been "involved" in since the days of the comic strip coming to a head, and he's just as indifferent about it at the end as he was at the start. But hopefully MacGruder still feels like he has one more season in him.

Great closing line for the series. XD
Which was followed by a faint, "Oh, well!" Meaning nothing will change.
That was a fun episode that felt more like a season finale, than the one with the Chicken Flu. Good action as well.
Feel sorry for the people in the credits though. Damn, that was fast.

Wait, why did Jack not just shoot him then and there? I mean he'd gone rogue already, and three seconds later he took Ed the third as hostage, so he isn't exactly getting his job back. It's not like he should actually care what obama had to say this point. Hell, given Huey's probably still pissed over obamas reaction to the Chicken Flu indicent, and could easily have taken care of it by himself.
Come to think of it, why would Ed Wuncler blow up his own building? That probably costs millions to repair, factoring out computer costs and finding new employees who don't want to be terrorist targets. Hell subtracting the cost of making the movie and all that merchandise he'd probably need to have twilight level success to see any substantial profits.

Who says he'd have to rebuild it? Leave it empty as a reminder of the scar of terrorism... or something... like that. He's a smart guy. He knows what he's doing.
But man, that was DEFINITELY a great season/series finale. Loved the ending. Loved White Shadow's return (how long has it been now?). Good action, tense plot, and of course, great humor. The fact that have Ed III and Gin Rummy as the villains... perfect, since they're among the funniest on the show. And the ending? Has Obama at his beck and call in less than two seconds. Ed Wuncler is certainly a badass.
So yeah - if the show goes out on this high note, I won't be disappointed. Of course... I wouldn't mind seeing another season, either. :p

I'm not sure you top satirizing 9/11, let alone after having done that so well. This is the kind of show they will run in classroom studying American Humor. It's easily as sharp and insightful as Carlin or Pryor.
I mean, I'd love to see a 4th season, but what more can they do!?

Well, I just haven't seen anything quite as ambitious as Boondocks, especially coming into this last season, for a while. I don't think it's unfair to put it in an echelon with stuff like, All in the Family at least.
Also, I've taken a course on American Humor to fill out a prerequisite, and Boondocks fits that mold of what that class seems enamored of - stuff that was funny, but some what cutting in the same stroke.

I wish I could share your praise, but it just seems like a bit of a stretch to consider it a triumph of satire. If you like the show, great, but it just seems like way, way more credit than the show deserves I'd love to hear what actual accomplished satirists would say about it, at least.

Hoping this isn't the end - given the show's production history, I could wait until 2012/2013 for new episodes.
If not, it looks like Ed III's story has come full circle - shot out a window by Riley, to taken hostage by Jack Flowers. And his grandfather could still care less about him. And Uncle Ruckus raised a hand (or foot) to a white man, so maybe this really is the end.
Wasn't the funniest episode of the series, or even the season, but it was acceptable. If this was truly the finale, it will have to suffice.
("Oh well")

Did anyone else catch the Native Tounge Family references? Dan Stucky the security guard is a name used on De La Soul Three Feet High and Rising a bunch of times. The Terrorist name was Ali Shaheed Mohamand which is the DJ for Tribe Called Quest. Those two aspects made me laugh.
