WrestleMania XXVI: The World Television Premiere
Saturday, August 8, 2010 @ 9 p.m. ET/8 CT on NBC
For the second consecutive year, NBC and World Wrestling Entertainment will bring the world’s biggest pop culture event to network television when WrestleMania XXVI: The World Television Premiere airs Saturday, Aug. 7 at 9 pm ET / 8 pm CT. The special will feature highlights from WrestleMania XXVI set to music from today’s hottest acts in one lightning-fast hour of family-friendly programming.

For one night only, NBC will be the one and only place, where television viewers can witness the grandeur and spectacle of the world-wide phenomenon that is WrestleMania. WWE Superstars such as John Cena, Triple H, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho, Rey Mysterio and Edge entertained a sold-out crowd at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. While the University of Phoenix has hosted the Super Bowl, major college bowl games and high profile concerts, nothing compared to the magnitude of WrestleMania’s non-stop action and thrilling pyrotechnics. NBC will be presenting The Show of Shows in breathtaking high-definition.

The highlight of the NBC special will feature what turned out to be one of the greatest matches in WWE history. Undertaker and Shawn Michaels are two of the most prolific superstars in WWE history, for one of them, this match was his last. More than 72,000 fans were on their feet throughout the emotional rollercoaster of athleticism. The two immortals put on a performance that thrilled the audience and in the end, reduced grown men to tears.

WWE made history at the University of Phoenix Stadium, as WrestleMania XXVI became the highest grossing entertainment event ever held at the stadium. A total of 72,219 fans from all 50 states and 26 countries attended the event, outdrawing Super Bowl XLII (71,101 attendance) in the same building. WWE’s annual extravaganza was broadcast around the world on pay-per-view in more than 100 countries and 20 languages.

Well, this was not a good weekend for WWE talkbacks. Of course, not many people overall watched this across the country (out of the big four, it finished fourth in the time slot), so maybe I was the only one here. :( I am really letdown by how WWE has done on NBC since its return to USA and the NBC-Universal family. I had high hopes WWE specials would garner at least decent ratings and spark an interest in casual viewers.

I was surprised that basically the entire special was Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels. Not that it didn't deserve it certainly, but I was not expecting that. Giving all the other matches at least a little attention with the closing video was appreciated.

Because the focus was on that match, it was also wasn't one music video which was also different. The music they did use I thought was great. Of course it was awesome to have Placebo's "Running Up That Hill" back to introduce that match and The Verve Pipe's "Colorful" Shawn good-bye video to wrap it up. I thought "O Death" by Jen Titus (which is apparently from CW TV series, Supernatural, never watched it, but I hear good things) was an awesome entrance for The Undertaker. The closing moments with Enya's "Deora Ar Mo Chroi" packed a very emotional punch, especially because after the actual event, you knew it was the end.

Well I was watching parts of it. I didn't really care for this though because I was playing mario kart on wii (which if anyone want to go a few rounds just contact me so we can exchange friend codes) but I had liked the fact they showed actual footage of the match rather than highlights of the match.

Well, as the Michaels/Taker match getting real focus showed that, had it not been for this match, I don't think the show in general will be remembered much. It was mostly an overblown PPV version of Superstars. Mind you, it was also the first and only wrestling PPV my family had ever purchased.
