I feel like only yesterday the Summer movie season was starting. Now it's quickly wrapping up. Where is this year going?

I'm glad my guess of Dinner for Schmucks beating Inception this weekend turned wrong. Inception is doing great!

Wow third week in a row, Inception's seriously doing great, even if its in 4th place Despicable Me is doing good and also nice to see Toy Story 3 still on the list.
Glad that The Last Airbender is out seriously people, waste your time and money on something else.

I really hope Toy Story can crawl to $400 million. It's still going pretty strong, so one can hope.
I am so happy Inception is doing well. Such a fantastic movie.

If it does, it will JUST make it, the movie is starting to decline.

At this rate it's headed for about $410 million. The only reason it made a 44% drop this weekend was because it lost the rest of its 3D screens. Compared to Shrek and How to Train Your Dragon's 60%+ drops after that happened, Toy Story 3 held up impressively.

Ah, good to see Inception back in the number one spot. It certainly deserves that position more than an utterly average comedy where Steve Carel plays the exact same character he plays in every other production. Here's to Christopher Nolan and the future of dreams! :p

Ouch for Charlie St. Cloud. I wonder if it'd have done better if the film had come out during the fall like it was originally supposed to instead of being released during the already packed summer movie season.

Ha. I knew Schmucks would beat Charlie. Every one of my fellow employees were against me. I even guessed it would come in second, too.

But if it had to pick a summer season, it probably picked the best one for weak entry.

Excellent news, and I expect it to stay that way for at least another two weeks. For one thing, there is nothing next weekend. Secondly, the weekend after has only Scott Pilgrim, which looks terrible thanks to Michael Sera.

I don't know. Maybe Efron doesn't have big-name charisma like he did back in the days of the original High School Musical trilogy.

I actually talked a little about this when I first saw the commercials for this movie. It's been awhile since 17 again, which was his last high profile gig, has he done anything since then? During that time he's been overtaken by glittering vamps and wolf boys.

How quick to judge.
But yeah, I don't really expect Inception to fall next week.

Yeah, it seems that a lot of people are really excited for this film, including on this very site. I haven't read the source material, but I don't think it's a good idea to dismiss a movie adaption just because of one actor. And besides, is Michael Cera really that bad of an actor? I thought a lot of people liked him?

Yea he really is but I don't think he can ruin this movie on his own.

I'm not a Michael Cera fan myself. He got his big exposure from Arrested Development and that's what I still like him in. Unfortunately, and I know many agree, he's one of those types of actors that has no range, has the same speaking manner, and plays the same kinds of parts over and over again. Vince Vaughn and Will Ferrel are this same way, but that's what's made them money over the years so they still do it. Funny enough, The Lost World: Jurassic Park was Vince Vaughn's only movie that I can really think of where he did something different and acted different. But that was before all the comedies.
Michael Cera alone won't ruin Scott Pilgrim (which is funny because he is the title character) because the source material is insanley popular. I've never read any of it, but I do know it. My prediction IMO is that this will end up like Kick Ass. The big fans and geeks will turn out for the first weekend and the first week in general, but after that it will fall off like Kick Ass did. Scott Pilgrim I don't think is going to be one of these movies that will appeal to the general audience and rake in the cash. It will do well for the prodcution budget it was made from, and may even do well enough to warrant further movies, like what is happening with Kick Ass 2. But don't expect big numbers after the first week. The more power to it, but it's just not a wide range audience going film.
BTW, Kick Ass finished with $48 million here state side and another $47.9 million overseas. It will be interesting to compare this and Scott Pilgrim because again, I really think that these two movies are very similar in their fan base and I think it's very fair to compare these two when looking at performance.
Kick Ass' production budget was $30 million, but it's marketing budget was way more because everyone thought this film was going to be a lot bigger than it was. Hence why Lion's Gate threw all this money into it's marketing. I don't know what Scott Pilgrim's budget is, but it can't have been very high. Marketing is another question as well.

I believe he was Norman Bates in the remake of Psycho.

Ah, yes! The word for word scene by scene remake. I had completey put that unnecessary movie out of my mind. :p I'll give him credit for that I guess. But he's got more comedies under his belt with his same style than action/drama types.
Will Ferrel did it with Stranger Than Fiction and was quite good. I love Robin Williams in dramas, but hate him in comedies.

Why do you say that? The movie was not that bad. It got me wanting to watch the cartoon, so it did its job.

Normally, I'd agree, but I don't think this one was trying to get people to watch the cartoon (mainly because the director pretty much said "ignore the cartoon.")

That wasn't it's job. It's job was to make lots of money and probably be a possible movie franchise. That didn't happen so it won't be getting one. Some will say that after DVD and worldwide BO total it might get a sequel but that's a very slim chance. If that was teh case Golden Compass and other failed potential tentpole movies would have gotten a sequel by now.

Cera. And Edgar Wright as director is enough to get me on board. That's the real selling point for me.

Knowing that the movie was coming out finally got me into the show, and I now have no desire to see the movie.

Looks like Cats and Dogs 2 and Charlie St. Cloud are going nowhere fast depending on where they are in this week's Top 10. I have no interest in any of this week's new films but man, I can't wait to see the numbers for next week. Step Up 3D might lose its audience next week. Please, oh please, I hope it's not number one.
