Lopez who used to be one of Hollywood’s biggest draws and one of the top selling recording artists on the planet. Now those days are long gone. Her last few movies have tanked at the box office, her is a punchline, and her career is pretty much dead in the water. Joining American Idol makes a lot of sense for Lopez and maybe for Idol too since, unlike Ellen, she might actually know something about the music industry.
Still for JLo it seems like sort of a surrender, a way of closing the book on the bigger, more successful career. Or maybe this will be just the jumpstart she need

Who came here thinking this news was about her replacing SIMON?

Eh sounds better then the last person I heard was coming onto Idol (on the radio today I heard a DJ on 107.5 say Jessica Simpson was joining the show next year) but yeah still seems pretty despeate. I mean of all the people to try and put into Idol somewaht active in the music scene they go for J.Lo? One can only hope it's this version of J.Lo.

.... What? "She" probably knows more how to treat new contestants then the regular J.Lo would.

I LOVE that version of J-Lo. Really, I do. But then, I also love burritos, enchiladas and a soda pop ;)
Apparently, J-Lo gets REALLY cheesed off if she's in the presence of someone doing that voice or imitation. I've got my fingers crossed it happens during the audition process, if not on finale night :p We could see a Tyra-sized meltdown....

(On the radio today I heard a DJ on 107.5 say Jessica Simpson was joining the show next year)That alone would make the IQ level of the show drop a thousand fold. :p
Either way, This doesn't concern me since I don't watch 'American Idol', and I tend to think that 'Idol' has hijacked Fox's schedule resulting in potential shows getting canceled left, and right.

Jennifer Lopez is out of running as judge for 'American Idol':

Ain't she to old to be making demands? Besides her popularity is going down the toilet faster than you can sneeze, so why was she even recommended? AI better learn from their past mistakes if they want to continue to have a successful show, & stop picking Pathetic Celebfreaks with NO Talent. I think the mistake in selecting any judge for American Idol is selecting those that have no musical talent or eye for said talent. Jennifer Lopez certainly didn't fit the bill and, as far as her music career is concerned...well, look for it on the side of the next carton of milk you buy!

Looks like we have another judge for Idol and his last name's Tyler.

I have to agree with this. Jennifer Lopez is still quite pretty, but she's 41 (which is old for a pop star), and her popularity is waning. Her last couple of movies bombed. She really can't afford to be too picky. I hope she doesn't end up trying to have her own reality show.

Here's a link to this story from ABC News (their source was the Associated Press) : http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory?id=11435029
I have been hearing reports that this has been confirmed and that it is also a rumor. I guess we will have to see how it plays out.
What do you guys think?

Certainly a better choice than Ellen or Jennifer Lopez. Tyler's not the best singer in the world, but I'd rather take pointers from the lead singer of one the most popular rock bands that's been around for years than Lopez or Ellen.

Since Tyler is from a rock band, I can't help but wonder if the show will now attract people who can actually play instruments as oppose to just singing into a mic. Either way, I doubt that I'll be watching, but I agree that Tyler has more music experience than Lopez, or Ellen.

Eh.
I'd rather take Jennifer Lopez.
At least she can sing.

This will be the final season of American Idol. It might even be canceled halfway through.

This will be the final season of American Idol. It might even be canceled halfway through.I sure hope so. Maybe then, Fox will finally be free from 'American Idol's reign of terror on music, and prime time television, and finally get back to taking chances with shows that push the television envelope again, or fill up the airwaves with more reality junk

We don't need a source. The fact that Cowell's gone pretty much seals Idol's fate.

It's not just that, it's that the show barely even resembles the earlier seasons now, period. What with the replacement judges, wild-cards, guest judges, etc, it's lost much of what once made people want to tune into it. Even if they manage to find the best star they've ever found this next season (almost entirely unlikely), it probably won't be enough to make people want to put up with yet another year of American Idol in 2012.
So, R.I.P, America's (formerly) most watched television show. I won't be missing you. :p

Yeah. I also hope this is the last season of "American Idol."
But getting back on topic, they went back to three judges again. I thought there would be four judges just like the past two seasons.
