As some of you may know, MTV has moved away from what made them sucessful in the first place, Music. These days any good music videos are few and far between in my opinion. I've had some suspicion about them even when they cared about music. Also, their form of retarded editing (Fast, and slow motion cut scenes, Color, and Black & White switches) has crawled out into the mainstream in shows like Entertainment Tonight (Viacom owns Paramount & MTV you know.) E! news daily, and most movie documentries (Maybe I need therapy.) Aside from "Daria", (The only good thing to come out of "Beevis & Butthead") "Celeberty Deathmatch", and such. MTV dosen't interest me. (However, they are getting the new CGI Spidey cartoon from Sony & Mainframe) What are your thoughts?

Though I rarely ever watched MTV in the first place, I never watch it now. Frankly, it's gone down to hell, just like the Disney Channel.

I'll just say that I someday hope to get a satellite dish so I can view VH1 Classic, alias "MTV Of The 80s".

It has the grand videos of the 70s and 80s with nary a non-music show in sight. Sadly, the only people I know of who have VH1 Classic are my cousin Veronica and her husband Kevin.

MTV bites...and VH1 isn't that good anymore either...

Sincerely,

Well

a) I don't have that much time to watch TV in the first place so my selection is usually limited to either a DVD that's been sitting on my shelf collecting dust or something on TV that looked appealing. Personally haven't really watched MTV since Carson Daly became the craze. I can't stand the guy and I keep hoping that one day I'll here about how he got insulted by a celebrity on his show - promptly followed by him getting slapped up by Tara Reid. Now that would be entertainment! :D

Only reason I ever watched MTV in the last couple years was for Daria... now I have none. Sure, I might catch a music video or two if they're showing 80s or early 90s ones, but I haven't watched it really and truely for years. Maybe it's because I'm getting older, but I just don't like MTV the way I used to. Then again, I didn't watch it all that much in high school, either. I mean, I was a teenager only 2 years ago ;)

Crap. It's all crap, with the exception of Daria. TRL would be good, if it wern't so overpopulated with rap/pop videos.

If you look at it's programming, you'd never guess that the station was called MUSIC Television. The only videos the show are on that god awful TRL show. And even then they don't even show the whole thing! They have some 14 year old talking about how great NSYNC is.

You know what? You like the damn video so much then shut up and let them play it.

I wouldn't mind too much, but the TRL format has spread to CMT, one of my favorite stations and one of the few music channels that, until recently, actually showed MUSIC VIDEOS.

THe only reason I tune into MTV anymore is for The Osbournes and Tough Enough and occasionally Celebrity Deathmatch, and when they actually play videos at like 1 in the afternoon and also 11 at night.

I despise MTV. The fact that they only show music videos at the crack of dawn is bad enough, but I'm sick of their cr@ppy shows (Undressed, The Blame Game, Spyder Games, and that monstrosity Jack@ss) Thankfully, most MTV programming has the life span of a dust mite (with the exception of Daria, R.I.P)

TRL has got to go. I'm sick of watching all those pre-pubescent teenyboppers swoon over Carson Daly or Britney Spears. In fact, I'm sick of the soulless bubblegum junk they play ad nauseum...the only "rock" they play at all is garbage like Limp Bizkit or Linkin Park...Uuugh, I get sick just thinking about it.

I really don't watch MTV anymore because they don't show music videos anymore or they show the same videos over and over again. Here a suggestion MTV it called variety.

I don't know if the rest of you can relate to my reasons, but the only reason I really don't watch MTV is because there aren't good videos anymore. The videos don't give me a reason to watch the channel. All the pop videos have nothing but the artist singing to some extremely beautiful girl/guy. All the rap(even R&B these days, ever hear of this B2K group?) videos have the semi-naked women in them. Now it seems like Rock is filled with nothing but concert-like footage showing the artists just performing to random people. It all looks the same these days. As for their shows(Undressed, etc.), I don't even watch those to begin with.

I was never a big fan of MTV, there was a beautiful time when there was Celebrity Deathmatch, Daria, and TRL had Korn, Orgy, and Limp Bizkit on. There was also a show called Say What, which showed music videos instead of Say What Karoake which showed talentless people singing the songs.

Now videos are VERY few and far between. Daria is gone. They never show music videos anymore. TRL is nothing but a haven for teeny boppers to scream "I love you Carson" during the only show on that stupid station that even plays music videos anymore (even though they cut them off halfway through). Not that I care about the Music Videos anymore anyway, if its not Britney or a boy band then its a rap video.

So yes, I hate the channel, and I don't watch it at all.

I loved MTV about 10 years or so ago. Then they started going downhill... going overboard with rap music videos, shows like the Real World that have nothing whatsoever to do with music, cancelling Beavis and Butthead... and the last straw, censoring the name of the Tool Video 'Stinkfist' (calling it Track 1) only to completely stop using it a week later while showing videos with LL Cool J having sex in them.

I reached a point of hatred with MTV that I just started ignoring the channel completely (except for the occassional viewing of Daria of course). Follow what I did, it sure did me a lot of good

I never really liked MTV in the first place, and I don't like it at all now. It's kind of ironic cause that's usually all my friends ever seem to wanna watch. I prefer shows that aren't crap, but that's just my opinion. :p

I used to watch some show's ocassionaly like Celebrity Deathmatch and Daria. But that's about it. And as many of you have already mentioned, What is up with them playing all the music videos and the crack of dawn anyway? They shouldn't even call it MTV. It's false advertising.

what does mtv stand for? oh yes, music television. one problem, wheres the music? what do shows like the real world, road rules, undressed and all the other crap programing thats on the channel have to do with music. mtv put out some good shows such as daria, jackass, the andy dick show, and the tom green show, but they have canceld most of them and those shows were the last bit of quality programing the channel had. i am glad andy dick is coming back though. mtv2 is better since it is 24 hour music videos. vh1 is even better, vh1 is truely music televison.

It HAS strayed away from the main reason why it was put there in the first place. I mean, I like Spiderman and all, but what in the galactic universe does that have anything to do with music???

I like Daria, the Real World, and Road Rules, and I like some of their othe rprogramming, so I am going to have to disagree with you on "going downhill" part you people are saying.

If it is so bad, it wouldn't get such high ratings. Honestly, you people aren't the only audience out their. Just because the programming doesn't appeal to you, doesn't mean it's "going downhill".

I, too, can't stand MTV anymore. The only shows that I'll watch are "Sunday Night Heat", "Tough Enough" (hey, I'm wrestling fan), "Celeberty Deathmatch", and when they have a music special ("MTV2 Presesents Artists to Watch in 2002", that "Columbia Records thing that was on Wednesday night). All that network is now are people looking doing, saying, and wearing retarded things to get on the air. As far as the music goes (when they actually show it), they seem to follow the "Sell Out" approach described below:

"You're gonna go to the record store. You're gonna give them all your money. Radio plays what they want you to hear." Reel Big Fish - "Sell Out"
MTV definitely believes in the bold part of that quote. Just change "radio" to "Music Television". I used to go to VH1 for my videos, but they are slowly turning into MTV (have you seen how many times they have shown "House Party 3"?). If I want music videos, I either go to MTV2, which shows a wide range of new and old videos from every genre (I've seen both Kenny G and Alabama on that network), Much Music for a different point of view (they play things that would NEVER make MTV or VH1, like Our Lady Peace and Joydrop), or the Internet. MTV is a lost cause.

The only shows that I watched on MTV was Celebrity Deathmatch, Jackass, Daria (sometimes), WWF shows, The Tom Green Show, and the Andy Dick Show. That's it though.

Now that most of these shows are gone, I've stopped watching. I've never seen TRL so I can't comment on it.

Also, why are all the other networks starting to look like MTV? Especially Nick who is starting to look like MTV Jr., which is ironic because MTV came from Nick in the first place (back in 1981).
