I was talking to A friend of mine who told me that most people treat the current crop of talent like gods way too soon. the talent from the older generation deserves the god like status now, but the current crop has just started to gain popularity. He thinks it's better to wait a few years, and see how history will judge them. What do you think?

(and people on the boards do this)

some people compare Bruce Timm, and others to Walt Disney, William Hanna, Joe Barbara, and other way to soon.

Sure Batman: TAS, Superman: TAS, Powerpuff Girls, Dexter Lab, Justice League are good cartoons. But, They are not in the league of Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse, Flintstones, Jetsons and Scooby Doo. They just came out.

The only person who deserve any comparison to the older cartoons is Matt Groening (The Simpsons) who's show has been on for 11 years.

Give them time, if they are on the air 5, 10 years from now, they you can compare the new drawers, to the old schoolers.

(That's my opinion)

(That's my opinion) Time doesn't mean anything. Bruce Timm has been doing his shows roughly the same amount of time as Matt Groening. But that has nothing to do with each man's individual skills. Why should durability in the public eye (which is more a measure of popularity, not talent) have anything to do with how we regard their potential genius?

Well, going back to the original run of BTAS, Dini and Timm's animated universe has been on close to ten years...

I think it's something every generation does. As good as Looney Tunes or Mickey Mouse are (hey, I love 'em), they are old. Our parents watched them. Shows like PPG or Dexter's Lab for example are new and different, but they belong to this generation. It's theirs. So in their eyes it is on par with or better than classic animation.

That's why, as cheesy as it was, I will maintain till the day I die that He-Man was the greatest cartoon ever.

I don't treat anyone as a God, even the animation pioneers. (Uh, we are talking about animation talent, right?) To me, they are merely some joes like you and me pumping out some good entertainment. I am the consumer and they create the stuff I am consuming. It is just business.

I was including people of all forms of entertainment.

Then I would most certainly say that we do not treat our stars as Gods. Hence, we have vicious "gossip" columns which are intended to discredit the stars...
