After what was said in the interview, didn't you expect to see something like that?
By the way, I wouldn't mind Goober and the Ghostchasers if they replaced a few airings of Scooby Doo with it. :never seen Goober though: :p

That's the problem exactly. Well, I for one have had enough of this network's arrogance. Once and for all, we should show them that we could, if united, easily outnumber the "Craptoon Craptoon" fans! If we don't stand up now, they will continue to trample all over the classic fans. Enough is enough!

Why can't they air Speedy Gonzales cartoons on Adult Swim, like they do the black-and-white Popeye cartoons now?
I love Fox News, and I love Cartoon Network, but I never thought I'd see the day when they would cross paths.
(P.S. -- I didn't mean to start a new thread on an old subject earlier. I only found this particular forum like, 30 minutes ago! :p)
Okay..they're comparing classic cartoons like Popye and Speedy with that stupid "Scooby Doo" wannabe show? Excuse me, but there's a BIG difference in the quality. Yea Cartoon Network's arrogance is getting on my nerves too.

The response from Cartoon Network was made basically with the notion that this is only going to be a two-day story that will fade back into obscurity so long as the people at CN "tough it out" and don't show any sign of weakness. If the story does turn out to have legs and becomes an ongoing embarrasment for CN -- especially if a rival such as Fox (which loves to stick it to AOL Time Warner anyway), the Wall Street Journal or some other major news source goes out and interviews Hispanics to get their views on banning Speedy.
Odds are if they did that, they'd find thisd whole thing is being pushed by a small group of PC activists with virually no public support, but who have the honchos at CN afraid they'll cause more trouble than the people protesting to put Speedy back on.
BTW -- Do the people at Fox or the Wall Street Journal know Ted Turner has also banned almost all the Indian cartoons from Cartoon Network?

That would be GREAT. I would love Fox if they did that. :D I like Cartoon Network, but I think they need to be embarrassed a little for taking us Speedy fans so lightly. They deserve whatever they get for being such jerks.

It seems like lately Cartoon Network is really getting a.....um, "excited urge" for Goober. How many times was that show mentioned during the stupid Fancy Anvil Awards?
Apparently they feel that mentioning it in reference to bad cartoons proves that the network is "hip" and knows about differences in quality.
The CN response to me sounds like total PR rubbish. They've known for quite a long time that there is a demand for black and white cartoons...long before "The Popeye Show" premiered. They think that if they brush it off to the press as "It's just one spoiled fanbase" then they don't have to respond to actual issues brought up.

*SIGH*. I remember when NICKELDEON did something similar to this. Boy was it torturing, but this is even more uncalled for. If fans demand for something, then the fans should have their wish fullfilled. Besides, it's not like we're gonna give up on begging. If CN did what we are asking politly, and brought Speedy back, they wouldn't hear from us, now would they? Just goes to show you the logic CN goes by.

Greg is absolutely right.
Instead of addressing WHY they don't play Speedy, they try to change the subject and just attack those of us pointing it out as "fringe" elements. They won't address the issue of censorship, just throw mud at their critics.
Actually, this approach is fairly typical of the PC crowd. They have a "we know what's best for you so shut up" attitude. If you don't shut up, they smear you as an "extremist" because they have no logic or reason to their actions.
Hey you guys, I just thought of something... That stupid Ralph kid on Ed Edd and Eddy could offend people from Austria, but Cartoon Network doesn't seem to give a crap about that, now do they? He's obsessed with sausages and basically makes his country sound retarded and very unmodern. (yes that is a word...I looked it up..) I mean if I was from Austria, that would probably get on my nerves.
Ralph IS from Austria, isn't he? If he isn't he could still offend the people that are from his "homeland".

Anyone comparing Cartoon Cartoons, Batman the Animated Series, etc. to classic cartoons is not getting the point. You can't complain about Rolf the same way you complain about "Coal Black and The Sebben Dwarfs"! Modern cartoons are politically incorrect and have violence, but not as much as the classic cartoons.
Also Bruce Timm, Craig McCracken, etc. are alive and well (even visit these boards from time to time)! And even they can't stop their stuff from being censored! Look at Batman Beyond!
How many people are actually creating 1960s cartoons now? Unless they have a time machine, they couldn't! How many peeps are making a profit from classic cartoons? Jerry Beck, but who else? You are going to need a lot more people in the industry dedicated to protecting these cartoons, if you want to get Speedy back.

What about the millions Warner Bros. makes each year off licensed Looney Tunes merchandise? Does that count?

They are working AGAINST you! You think QVC is going to air a clip insulting the Japanese or midgets during their Warner Bros. hour? This will be an up hill battle.

I'm not even sure what point you're trying to make, but there are tons of Speedy merchandise. For someone who is never on TV, there is sure a whole lot of Speedy stuff that you can buy. I think he's probably second only to Taz as far as merchandising goes.
Let's not forget that episode of Scooby Doo with the Chinese caricatures. We only got to see stuff like that on extremely rare LNB&W or late night Acme Hour showings. There's no denying that there's a double standard between the LTs and everything else on CN.

In one sentence...another in a very long line of Scooby Doo clones made by H-B.
It's what you get when you cross the Partridge Family with Scooby Doo.
Here's one site:

"Gold Rush Daze" has a Chinese stereotype and it's fairly common on the Acme Hour.

What in the world are you talking about? I think you're the one who "isn't getting the point". I'm just saying that stupid cartoons nowadays such as Ed Edd n Eddy are politically incorrect and could offend people but no one at Cartoon Network seems to care about that. I was simply pointing out the network's blatant hypocrisy with the whole situation.

And let's not forget the classic "Flintstones" episode "The Prowler," in which Wilma and Betty learn Judo.

Actually, an Asian friend of mine finds that episode really quite entertaining and isn't bothered by it nearly as much as the TV censors seem to be.
Funny thing, though, I was watching Mr. Ed, a so-called "family" show on Nick at Nite or Deja Vu last year sometime and saw both the extremely racist episodes where Ed's owner masquerades as 1. A Chinese laundryman and 2. An Italian street organ grinder.
These were both on in prime time and were aired as blantantly as ever (I even caught one of them on tape!)-
Oh yeah, but I forgot- they're not cartoons for 'kids' :p
