Captain Phil Harris was always the guy I liked most on this series, and it wasn’t until the season premiered a few months ago that I even realized that he had died. However, tonight’s episode, Redemption Day, is his final episode. Has anybody else been watching the series this season? I assume so, as the series has its highest ratings ever and tonight’s episode will likely do even better. You can’t help but feel sorry for Jake and Josh, but I like how Josh has been handling the whole thing and I hope he manages to raise the money he needs to purchase the Cornelia Marie and become the new captain. Hopefully Discovery will help him out and he can join the fleet next season in his father’s place.

Redemption Day (July 13th) - The Time Bandit deck disintegrates as Mike and Scott fight for the Captain’s chair. Desperate to leave the deck, Edgar Hansen trains his greenest deckhand on the hydros. As the fleet faces epic weather, Phil Harris battles for his life.

Valhalla: (July 20th) - Captain Phil Harris loses his battle for life while the boats - unaware of the news - battle the biggest storm of the season. Eventually, eldest son Josh breaks the news to the fleet and reactions are intense and unforgettable.

Captain Phil Harris died on last night's episode of "Deadliest Catch" and 8.5 million people tuned in to see how Discovery and the show's producers handled this delicate matter.

That's not just a record audience for the series, but it also made the episode the third-most-watched telecast in Discovery history -- behind "Raising the Mammoth" and "Walking With Dinosaurs," which both aired in 2000.Discovery handled the whole thing rather well, all things considered, and I don’t think very many reality programs would have handled a death as well as they did. It sucks that Jake wasn’t at the hospital at the time, as he went to Seattle in order to rehab from his drug addiction – a promise he made to his father – but his father was happy that he was getting the help that he needed. Captain Phil Harris will be missed.

I watch Deadliest Catch here and there but I made time to watch last night's episode. I thought it was very well done and it was nice that even on a hospital bed Phil still had that defiant captain's attitude even if he couldn't move or talk all that much.

I respect how they handled the "What do we show?" issue. All the time Phil was fighting and alive, they used the footage. But when the time came that he passed, they had no in-room scenes, which is the right and proper thing to do.

Seeing Jake in the After the Catch show suggests he has his act together and his trip to rehab was beneficial.

I missed ths season for various reasons, but I finally caught the encore for this week's episode. What a sad episode, and yeah Discovery handled it as well as they could. Captin Phil will be missed.
