This was a really fun book. The first story, Life On Mars, was actually included in the DC Kids Mega Sampler for Free Comic Book Day, so if you want to you can preview the series for free. It was a team-up between Batman and the Martian Manhunter as they search for the evil white martian General Ma'alefa'ak. Since he and J'onn J'onzz are the only survivors from Mars, his goal was to bring his people back and create a new martian civilization on Earth. Of course Batman and J'onn would not allow that to happen, so they foil his scheme in the typical fashion. This story ends with Ma'alefa'ak seemingly blowing himself up, but little does Batman know that he will return.

The second story, All in the Mind, opens with Batman on his way to investigate a break-in at Kord Industries. Everything seemed normal, but something was wrong with Batman. Ever since his encounter with General Ma'alefa'ak, he's felt strangely feverish. Soon after he pays a visit to Dr. Fate, who probes his mind and discovers that Ma'alefa'ak had hidden himself within Batman's psyche. Ma'alefa'ak then reveals himself and takes over Batman's body as Fate attempts to recite one of his incantations. Just when it looked like he was done for, Batman was able to fight back and tell Fate to use his helmet in order to contain Ma'alefa'ak. Once Fate's helmet was on his head, Batman then entered the mental plane where he defeated Ma'alefa'ak handily. Dr. Fate banishes Ma'alefa'ak to his Orb of Fate, where he will remain imprisoned.
