Man, [adult swim] is going to have to make me think about who should be Georgia's next governor. What would throwing my vote away to Dan Halen instead of voting for front-runners John Oxendine (http://www.google.com/search?aq=f&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=john+oxendine) or Roy Barnes (http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=roy+barnes) say about me? Is it wrong to say I would vote for a fictional character over two real people, or that said fictional character is more evil than the two combined? :p

And, I hope that they continue with the "Dan Halen for Governor" shtick until November.

I'm not gonna complain about Boondocks and KOTH doing it and doing it well, but it does bring up two questions.

1. When Boondocks ends, will its successor (at this point it appears to be the in-production Black Dynamite) be able to do similar ratings?
2. The ratings are so high you can't tell how the anime is doing. While I'd like to assume Kekkaishi is getting -200,000 ratings, it's just not possible to tell. Any guesses?

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood:
Alphonse: Brother, I've met other people who weren't exactly human. But they still managed to live their lives with a purpose. And even in this body, it hasn't stopped other people from treating me like I'm still human. This body could reject me anytime. But it's the same with being human. You never know when you might get sick or die in an accident. So I can still get by like this. I can live a somewhat normal life, and that's how I've managed to keep going. But now, I can't take it anymore. Because I can't...I can't take all the nights by myself! It's too lonely, and that's why I have to get back to normal.
Edward: Sure, and you're going to. We'll knock that truth jerk on his butt! Then we're gonna pull your body right out of that place!
Alphonse: Yeah!
Winry: Huh? That's weird. Have his shoulders always been so broad?

Kekkaishi:
Patissier: I just remembered the very last thing I ever said!
(in flashback): Cabbage!
(back in present): Cabbage! The last thing I said as if my whole life was about vegetables!
Yoshimori: So what?
Patissier: Why can't my last word be something sweet like strawberry?!

Bleach:
24
Uryu: Uh, Orihime, are you done?
Orihime: Oh yeah, really, I'm full. Haha. *stomach growls, she punches it* See? Really! My stomach is full after all!
Uryu: You really don't have to go that far. Just forget that I ever asked.

25
Ichigo: But what happened to your tail, Yoruichi? It looks like one of those flexible toothbrushes.
Chad, Orihime and Uryu: AHH?!
Yoruichi: What do you mean?! Is there something wrong with it?!!
Ichigo: Uh? No, nothing! It's a perfectly wonderful beautiful tail!
Uryu: Don't you remember? You're the one who actually did that!
Ichigo: I did?
Uryu: After you created that cannonball, you fell asleep and grabbed Mr. Yoruichi's tail! It took the three of us to get you to let go and by then it was too late!
Yoruichi: My tail, my pride and joy! Ruined!
Uryu: I highly recommend avoiding that subject from now on.
Ichigo: Yeah, got it.

The June 5th ratings shows FMA at 379K and Kekkaishi at 373K. That's about normal for anime that's not Bleach. And that was a week where the only thing higher was an episode of Boondocks at 400-something. In the weeks since then all we've seen was KOTH/Boondocks with 400-500K. So, if more people are watching the earlier shows now than on June 5th, why would we believe the anime would be any lower now? I'm not sure why you'd think Kekkaishi was under 200K today with strong lead-ins of KOTH and Boondocks, even in the days when AS gave anime really weak lead-ins (the year or so after they lost Futurama specifically), the worst we'd see from anime was still over 200K.

My theory is that when there's nothing else on (usually during the summer when SNL is in reruns for instance and there's no major sporting events), you'll see high numbers for the 10-12AM hours and thus no anime in the top 3 usually (Bleach sometimes). But when there is strong competing stuff on Saturday night (which is usually sporting events like NBA/NFL/MLB playoffs or maybe someone really popular hosting SNL) you'll see those numbers go down, but the Midnight and later numbers probably aren't affected all that much since the kind of people who watch anime are gonna make a point to watch it usually regardless of what else is on (especially when it's new episodes of anime). Thus why you'll occasionally see the anime creep into the top 3 - and the numbers they show in the top 3 are probably what they regularly get even when more people are watching the 10-12 hours. Since anime's hasn't been new and hip for several years now, you're probably not gonna get many new people watching it, and the people who do watch it probably watch it religiously. My point is that I think most anime shows probably get mostly the same numbers every week, with the only variable being how popular a given title is (i.e. Bleach is obviously gonna get a lot more viewers than Kekkaishi) since anime fans probably know whether they're gonna watch something or not before it premieres (or at least within the first few episodes).
