View Full Version : An MGM question, please read!

Since we've been talking about original cartoon negatives alot lately, I've got a question, but first I want to make sure I've got some things straight:

WB Negatives: Salvageable if they get going NOW!

Terrytoons:Restored (that's why we're clamoring for TOTALLY TOONED IN, right?)

Paramount:Some are restored (like the Popeyes) while others are in the process (like the Harveytoons).

Now for my question, what state are the negatives from MGM in? Do negatives (or theatrical prints) with original-credits exist or will we have to take the redone-credit prints we have now?

Actually, Totally Tooned In! uses Columbia cartoons, just to let you know.

Thanks Thad, I was confused about that, but the Terrytoons are restored right?

I'm not sure about that. Maybe you should ask Jerry Beck. He'd probably know.

In other words, not possible. The people who could do it are too busy making new stuff, and won't take the time or money to restore the classic cartoons.

Tell me it isn't true.

Outside of Disney, MGM probably did a better job of keeping their entire cartoon library looking good than any other studio. However, if you want to talk about original MGM opening and closing titles for most of the shorts made between 1941-52, that's another story.
