Simple poll that I've been wondering about. As a whole, whose work have you injoyed more, George Lucas' or Steven Spielberg's?

Lucas for me...I'm a Star Wars nut, and I thought "American Graffiti" was a great movie...
Not to say Indiana Jones wasn't...but that was a collaboration between the 2.. :)

Lucas most definitely! Without Lucas, there would be no Spielberg. :p Ok I know that's not really true, but without Lucas working with Spielberg on Indianna Jones, do you think it would've turned out as good? ;)

Lucas definitely. Star Wars was great, Indiana Jones was pretty much made by both of them. Lucas's movies are great to watch...Spielberg's are kinda sappy for my tastes, but still good (just not my favorite)

Spielburg. He's just accomplished so much more as a director, even though Lucas' Star Wars movies are great. I've just seen more of Spielburg's movies, and enjoyed them all. (It's an extra special treat to see the two of them work on a movie together, like the masterful Raiders of the Lost Ark.)

I would pick Lucas. Spielberg tends to be A little too sappy despite his involvment on Jaws, Indana Jones, Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, and Jurassic Park. Lucas hasn't gone as soft as Spielberg has recently.

Depends on the context. SS is a director, Lucas and his successes come mainly from his writing. Can you compare the two?
Lucas, I'd say - for Star Wars and Indy. Spielberg gave us part of Indy too - Duel and Jaws - AND to a certain extent, Back To The Future.... one of my FAVOURITE films.
However, he has also given us Jurrasic Park I,II,III, ET, Close Encounters, Hook.... ugh...
Yeah, Lucas - there is less to hate.

E.T. Jurassic Park 1, Close Encounter? Are you mad? Those are all classics. If JP did'nt do what it did, you would'nt even have half the aliens you'll see in the upcomming SW prequels. They'd all still be puppets like in Episode 4.
Lucas is cool, but he's hiding behind ONE success, ONE story, can't this man do ANYTHING else? Sure SW is great, but as a Filmakker he's mo match for SS. Speilberg shows the the Stamina of reinventing something everytime, he has the strength to do 100 SW stories all different and ALL interesting.
Lucas just has one. American Grafitti, and that radio movie is all he has to offer. Only only 2 are considered good.
Speilbergs list wil go on and on, just good movies: Schindlers list, Saving Private Ryan, Back to the Future, the Duel, oh yeah and I'll Add Minority Report, From what I've seen I bet you it will be one of his best films.
Speilberg any day.
I'd Actually like to see Lucas make a New trilogy of something else. If that movie were great, Then I'd amit, he's got a great talent, but until then, he's just a one hit wonder. Dont get me wrong SW is great, but that does'nt necessarily mean HE's great at anything besides SW. He may be great in a game of Golf, but he's definitly not in the Top Ten of all great filmakkers.

Speilberg has has the larger resume, making many good movies. Schindler' List, Jurassic Park, E.T., Saving Private Ryan, Jaws, and so on. Based on his success at a wide variety of genres, I would say Speilberg is the more talented director.
Indiana Jones I consider a wash. They both worked on it. Neither gets credit over the other.
With all the pros for Speilberg though, I still chose Lucas. Because while he has only told one story, I have enjoyed that one story more than all of Speilberg's work combined. Lucas created a fantastic reality, full of brash rogues, exotic aliens, and an epic battle between good and evil.
Lucas' one story had such mass appeal that it spawned a group of rabid fanboys whose interest in the story was sustained through a 15 year period where there was NO NEW STAR WARS whatsoever. I think that's very impressive.

I'm going to give it to Spielberg because of the range he has. Close Encounters of the Third Kind really surprised me as being a really good film. Jurassic Park, Jaws, and even Duel (a movie I'm not a big fan of but was really suspenseful) were very entertaining.
I have nothing against Star Wars at all. But I am not going to say Lucas is the best because of a series of movies that deal with the same general idea. Indiana Jones is good too (I need to rewatch them since my tastes are different than when I was 10), but having Harrison Ford in all of them doesn't help convince me of Lucas' range.
I haven't seen Saving Private Ryan or A.I. yet, but Minority Report looks good trailer-wise. Spielberg has my vote.

Good point. Speilberg has been involved in more projects, and Lucas will only be known for Star Wars unless he creates more ideas himself. The few films he did outside of Star Wars that I can think of are American Grafiti, THX, Indiana Jones, (with Spielberg) and Howard The Duck (I'm still waiting for that to come out on DVD.)

I don't think you want Howard the Duck on DVD......that movie was just downright WEIRD...lol.
just a bit of a warning.. ;)

Didn't Spielberg direct something called, Saving Private Ryan? ET? Schiendler's List? many others? What is this poll about, who is better, or who is more liked? Come on, Spielberg's range, is fare greater and worthy of respect and admiration, than Lucas.
That does not mean I don't like Star Wars...I love Star wars. have read many books, and watched the films, dozens of time, they give me a lift, but I do not consider him a great director, I just love his stories, and action.

I picked Spielberg. Lucas is great director, as he's proven with all of the Star Wars movies, but Spielberg has a much wider range of great films. Sure, he's had his share of... "sub-par"... projects, but his spectacular movies more than make up for his flops. And then, you get the rare and wonderful occaisions where they work together, and the result is a Godly movie like Raiders of the Lost Ark.
