Hey Hey #12 in a series of what is sure to be many.
Send the link to the hispaniconline.com people.
The more eyes that see it the better.
I bet Rush Limbaugh would link up to it as well.

#29.
Something I noticed, is that when leaving comments on the petition, we should try to make sure that we use correct grammer. Not trying to give anyone a hard way to go, but this is pretty important.

I singed up twice #68 and #7 and I'll keep on doing it until Cartoon Network wakes up to their senses.

holy frijoles! I never knew there WERE 306 people who cared about what CN airs...but believe it or not, as of noon central time, it has that many signatures! Believe it or not, though, there are a handful of morons on there who are FOR CN's banning Speedy... idiots. Oh well. Let's use an excuse and say they're being sarcastic :D

Yeah, I saw those on there. Isn't there a way to just edit or remove the comment part of their signature? I mean, it's supposed to be a unified petition, not a message board.

If they aren't with us, they need to just stay out of it. I agree with you completely. I hope their stupid comments can be erased.

Hmmm... I wonder if those comments were planted there by the PR folks at CN. ;)
By the way, it was up to 381 when I checked a few minutes ago. :D

Well, so far they are about three out of 380, so they're way outnumbered anyway. I doubt they are CN people, but if they are, that's dirty pool! I don't think there is a way to remove the comments either, and I don't see much reason to. By the way, how many signatures do you think this thing needs to make Cartoon Network consider it? They obviously don't know, or don't care, that there are fans of Speedy Gonzales, and dismiss them like the Popeye nerds. I'll keep an open mind and stay on the bright side, but seriously, it's going to take a big number. Oh, and I've noticed a couple of people signing it twice...stop. That kind of ruins the credibility, if people are padding it by signing multiple times. :p

I must have signed at least 4 or 5 petitions and I spoke what's on my mind.I will never hide anything that's on my mind...I'll just come out and say what I have to say!
BTW:
Matthew, is there any way you can delete those bad comments?

It just doesn't make sense. Some of the people on the petition and others (people at CN) think that Speedy is bad because he is racist, disrespectful, blah, blah, blah. If these people would look at the signatures of people with Hispanic names or people who say they are hispanic they say they aren't offended. If the people at CN would talk with their coworkers at CN Latin America they would say they weren't offended and show them the ratings. I guess they know it all, just as the Romans did during Bible times.

I decided to sign, as classic cartoon airings aren't the same without some cartoons, mainly Speedy.

I signed the petition twice, and I voiced out completely on my second posting. (Number 331.) I'm a Hispanic and I ain't one bit offended by Speedy. I believe I have said what I had to say.
Matthew Hunter

Yes, Emmanuel, I saw your full comments, I think that's great. This thing is a miracle, as I'm writing this it just recieved the 429th signature! I also have the emails of some people who count over at CN, so this is looking good folks, really good. I've even had a couple of total strangers email me and tell me how they're sending the link to everyone in their email box. More power to 'em. When I started this, I thought it would be just a long shot...just to show CN that SOMEONE cared. I'm stunned, I hadn't counted on this kind of thing. Seems I've started a grass-roots rebellion campaign over a cartoon character. I REALLY need to get out more :p

I just checked and there are now 547 signatures on Matthew's petition.
Matthew, I honestly thought you'd get like 80 signatures total. I am really amazed so many people have signed (and in such a short time, too). It just goes to show how much the Looney Tunes characters mean to people.

I wasn't expecting this kind of response either. I guess it just comes from the petition coming at the right place at the right time, and the fact that this decision by CN is SO dumb. I don't know if it will get close enough, but I have been told (I'm not sure I should mention by whom yet) that it would take close to a thousand signatures, mostly hispanics, to get CN to even raise an eyebrow. I don't know if it'll get that many, but I hadn't planned on getting what I have now, so who knows? I also found the website of the LULAC interest group, and emailed the president of that group with the issue. I'll let you know what he says. If they are offended by Speedy, oh well. If not, maybe they can send some signatures my way. Other people I have emailed with the link today (though no response yet) are Fox News and Joe Alaskey.

Hey, gang,
Moments ago, I finished writing a dissertation on this subject in the "I don't want to see Speedy" thread.
And now, if it isn't too technically difficult for me to figure out how to do it, :o , I'm also signing the petition.
(Thanks, Matthew, for contacting me.)
PS. Name-calling is not nice!! Especially in the heat of argument. But I forgive ya. We're only human. Except me. I'm half-duck. :p

Okay, that wasn't hard at all!! :D
What was hard was doing my homework on this topic in the first place!! But it is always worth it. Always.
Sage advice: Crack a book, babe!! (Then go watch cartoons.)
BTW, I'm # 585 -- a palindrome!! Which is a "good luck" thing for me!! (And hopefully, Speedy!!)

Guys, online petitions don't work. (http://www.snopes2.com/inboxer/petition/internet.htm) Write Cartoon Network a letter.
Their address is:
Cartoon Network
1050 Techwood Drive NW
Atlanta, GA 30318
Print the letter out on nice letterhead (if you have it). Attach your classy-looking signature. Stuff it in an envelope, put a stamp on the sucker, and MAIL IT.
As the above article states, "Real letters (the kind that are written in a person's own words and are sent through the regular mail) are accorded far more respect than form letters (let alone petitions), and that should be kept in mind by those intent upon being heard. Yes, the effort it takes is far larger. But so is the potential for making an actual difference." Remember that!

While I think it's true that they usually don't work, I know that there have been times when internet campaigns have been effective. Online petitions managed to successfully campaign for widescreen releases of Willy Wonka and Cats & Dogs on DVD, for example. I think a lot of it depends on what the petition is for, and whether there are enough names on the petition. Many times, they are for something that no number of signatures would change, but I'd like to think that this is a different case. I do agree that it is more useful to write a letter than sign an online petition, though.
Matthew Hunter
03-31-2002, 03:40 PM
Well, Mike, I had already planned to do that too. You see, in addition to sending the link to the petition via email, I plan on printing it out, every last page of it, and then hand-writing a formal letter to preface it and send it to that very address. In fact, I will send a couple copies to the names I've been given. Only reason I chose to do an online petition is accessibility and quickness. And as I understand it, many people DO write letters, (according to several of these news stories) but folks like Laurie Goldberg just sneer at them and publicly deride them. Well, if I get a bunch of people (I'm hoping to get over 800, 1000 is preferable) to sign a petition, and THEN write them a letter to go with it and stuff it in an envelope, they might think about it. Mike is right though, it certainly couldn't hurt to keep writing good ol' letters. Anyone who wants to is welcome to, and should, write letters. And tell them to look out for the petition. Hey, all this may be futile, but I think it will at least show Cartoon Network that their fanbase cares and is against them on their decision. If it won't bring back Speedy, maybe it will at least urge them to create that uncut Adult Swim Classics show I've been wanting them to do forever. If they don't listen, screw 'em. At least we'll know we've done our best. And they'll know we're not happy with them.

I'll handle that. Actually, I'm not sure if that particular address is active anymore. But while on the subject, everyone send your thoughts to that address and see if it does work. Send them email too.
