I tell you..with the return of GI Joe to tv along with He Man and Transformers..plus the new figure lines including possibly reissues of G1 Transformers here in the US and American PVC's its going to bea great time for us collectors!

Patrick,
I myself am not to fond of the DIC..but I would rather see them then the pseudo GI Joe Extreme series
I guess we will have to wait till June to find out the official word at the big Joe convention...unless CN or Hasbro comes clean

Here's the news piece for those too lazy to go to the site themselves
In related news, it looks like Cartoon Network will begin airing classic episodes of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero this October. A new series, based on the Joe vs. COBRA toyline, is currently being prepped for the fall 2003 season. Expect an official announcement at the 2002 G.I. Joe convention (http://www.mastercollector.com/neat/gijoe/norfolk/) in Norfolk, Va., 27-30 June.Wow the convention takes place in my own area, and I had no idea. I may have to pay to the convention myself to see if what I'm hopping is a CG cartoon with the same look as the commercials comes about. Late.

I just saw one of the CGI commercials the other day and it got me pretty excited for a new series like that. But I don't know how I'll handle someone else being the voice of Cobra Commander--Chris Latta died of a heart attack in 1994. :(

Update:
I e mailed the webmaster of the site that originally posted the article about GI JOE airing on CN in October...
This is the response I got:
Sent from the Internet (Details)
He was pretty adamant it was going to happen. Let me check again -- I'd hate
to be a source for rumors. Thanks for the heads up -- they may be covering
themselves, since I don't think the info was supposed to be released yet.
Ryan
So there is still hope that they are just covering up till they are ready to make the announcement!!

If they didn't want anyone to know it certainly is possible. We can only hope.

I don't know - usually if they're covering something up, they say "no comment", not "no one around here has heard about this" (or whatever it was they said).

The latest that I have heard about this is that CN is under orders to deny this until the big announcement at the Joe con in June in Norfolk VA.
This is still just a rumor as it has been since I first posted info on this..so I guess we will have to wait till June

I live in the area, so I may go, but if I can't it would be nice to have a Toonzone representative their to report back any info that's released.

I do believe this is true. Despite what our news post says, G.I. Joe is returning to TV. Maybe Cartoon Network just doesn't want to give away information right now, but the official company that owns the original G.I. Joe show clearly shows that Turner got the broadcast rights to the series(the original, not the Extreme one) just a few weeks ago. Considering Cartoon Network is the only Turner-owned channel that still has cartoons at this point, I think it's a definite that it's going there.
But also, I believe there could be some validity that Cartoon Network is not producing a new series. From everywhere I've heard, the CGI commercials are simply commercials and not intended to be picked up or continued into a series. I even heard a rumor that such a show would be going to FOX 4Kids and not CN.
So, the moral is, don't trust EVERY rumor out there. The company that made the G.I. Joe commercials was the same animation team from Roughnecks, and as far as know, they've disbanded since then.
