As announced a few weeks ago, the biopic of N.W.A (allegedly titled) "Straight Outta Compton" is preparing to get underway, with Ice Cube to direct and Dr. Dre and Tomica Wright (Eazy-E's widow) are to produce it as well. So let's hear your feedback on this. IMO, Cube and Dre should cast:

Anthony Mackie as Dr. Dre

I loved N.W.A back in the day, Straight Outta Compton was my first ever rap tape and I followed most of the groups solo stuff into the mid 90's until I stopped listening to rap music. I'll probably watch this at some point when it's released, the only problem I have is that some of these people were in the movie based on Notirous B.I.G and it's going to feel like they are just recycling these actors into the roles of various hip-hop artists, but I'll hold off judgement until I see a final product.

Yeah, but Anthony and Marc John have worked with Dre before in the films, 8 Mile and Get Rich Or Die Tryin'.

Dr. Dre wasn't involved in either of those films.

Um, yes he was. His company, "Aftermath Entertainment" produced both films.

Um, yes he was. His company, "Aftermath Entertainment" produced both films.Aftermath Entertainment is a record label, I don't think they produce movies.

I also checked my copy of 8 Mile and it was Imagine Entertainment that produced it. Not sure who produced Get Rich or Die Tryin' but I think it was MTV.

I don't know how exactly it could work, but I would like to see Ice Cube and Dr. Dre (he has shown some acting chops in Training Day and The Wash) play themselves. I mean, Howard Stern was able to play himself at least 20 years younger in Private Parts.

I just hope Dr. Dre produces the soundtrack.

If this does go through, I can picture lots of locals being casted for roles in the movie. There's no one I can really think of that would make for good casting. I can't really see what they'll do to avoid making this a run of the mill music biopic (rise, fall, etc) but it would be nice to see them try.
I just hope Dr. Dre produces the soundtrack. At the rate that he works and releases material now, I wouldn't count on that happening.

I just hope Dr. Dre produces the soundtrack.

He'll probably compile all the group's greatest hits together.

If this is as good as the Notorious movie I will be highly impressed.

The only problem I have is figuring out who could play The D.O.C.
