I heard there is already going to be a price drop for the X-box in Europe. If true I wonder if this means X-box will drop in price in other markets.

The only thing I want to drop in price is a PS2...if only they sold em' w/o a DVD drive....

Maybe I should've waited for a price drop, and invested the money I could've saved in something more useful. :p

Note: I still like the X-Box better than PS2(I'm just weird that way  )

Somehow I doubt it... each Xbox costs a ton to make, and each unit is sold at a fairly hefty cost already. Then again, it's not as if Microsquash doesn't already have a ton of money to throw around...

First rule of Economics: "Winners win for a reason, and losers lose for a reason."

Second rule of Economics: "When two competitors are fighting for a market, the first one forced to drop their price is the one that's in trouble."

If XBox's price is about to go down (which wouldn't surprise me), that's a sure sign that the PS2 has the upper hand in sales, big time.

And what about the Gamecube? Well, to Nintendo's credit, it's marketing the Gamecube as a different "animal" than the PS2 or the XBox, so its sales don't seem to effect the other two consoles.

I heard the X-Box has done worse then the Saturn in Europe. Microsoft is just not liked in those parts plus with a very strong Nintendo fan population there my guess is Microsoft doesn't really have a choice but to drop its price

Well, this all depends on how much the X-Box is in Europe. If I remember correctly, the PS2 had a price drop over there about 6 months ago, but at the time they were charging around $400 (U.S.) for each system. They lowered the price to match that of the U.S. systems. So, here's a question for the European fellows on the boards: How much is the X-Box around where you live? It's probably not that hard to find a site that will convert the sums, so if anyone gets me a number, I'll find out how much it is here in the states. Canada, too.

yeah ya would. GameCube has DVD based stuff so it can fit 1.5gb worth on one of those mini-discs....

Ah well....I'll just wait and wait and wait..it's not fair that PS2 gets so many Star Wars games..

From what I hear the X-Box is doing quite badly in Europe, so a price drop could make sense. Of course I don't have a clue as to what Microsoft was charging for the Box over there, it might have been a small fortune and now the price drop will put in more in line with the US price.

Of course historically money is not made on console sales, it's all in the games. So Microsoft could be willing to take even bigger short term losses in order to get a bigger user base and make bigger profits in the future.

-BB But without a DVD drive any future PS2 models wouldn't be able to play all the games that have and will be released on the DVD format. :p
