There you go, HC.

I suppose we won't have any piercing the heavens this time but anything set in the past is something to look forward to especially considering that this is anime-original.

Does this mean we won't get another Gainax show until after the fall season? That will be another year. At least we'll finally get another anime-original.

I'm all for Victorian era Evangelion
"To run away would be most ill advised! To run away would be most ill advised!"
"Zounds, these giant enemy assailants are full to the brim with delicious strawberry jam. How delightful, wot?"
As for applying- ignoring the language concern, I'll be honest and say I doubt I'm up to scratch for a job like this, sadly.

This thread is back w/ some posts moved from the Panty & Stocking With Garterbelt Thread, as we now have clear confirmation (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-05-29/yamaga/new-gainax-work-set-in-20th-century-britain) that the Britain series is something different:
Gainax anime studio co-founder and executive director Hiroyuki Yamaga has confirmed at FanimeCon on Saturday that his company is planning two works: the previously announced Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt project and a second work set in Great Britain during the 20th century. Yamaga is currently answering questions during his "History of Gainax" panel at FanimeCon in San Jose, California. (The panel's interpreter inadvertently translated Yamaga's response about the second project's setting as "19th century England," but Yamaga had actually said "20-seiki Igirisu" or "20th century Great Britain").
Gainax had revealed in an April job listing that it is working on a new anime production from May to October, and the job listing indicated that the project is set in Great Britain from 1900 to 1930.

That's good news all around, since it both means that we'll be getting two new Gainax anime-originals in the next year or so and that we'll probably be getting Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt sooner than this one.

We have a name: Bibliotheca Mystica de Dantalian. The first scan is out presumably via Kadokawa Shoten's The Sneaker magazine, since there was a report of an anime for the light novel series being announced for its June 30th issue.

For details, there is this from the report (http://[url=http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-06-03/bibliotheca-mystica-de-dantalian-novels-get-anime).....
The story centers around a young man named Huey who inherited a musty old estate, as well the entire book collection contained therein, from his grandfather. Huey meets Dalian, a girl in a black dress who is quietly reading in the basement piled high with books. Dalian controls the gateway to the Bibliotheca Mystica de Dantalian, the forbidden books of demonic wisdom. .....and this from that Hiroyuki Yamaga interview (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interview/2010-06-03/interview-gainax-hiroyuki-yamaga) about Gainax from early June:
Actually in the end of June in Japan we're going to release all the information. The basic rundown is, it takes place in 20th century England, and the main characters are a boy and a girl who wander around collecting magical books. It's based off of a novel. The setting is supposed to be 20th century, but the story begins right after World War I as the character is telling the story. I want to keep that building style of the 20s, but it also has to be modern enough for cars, and they didn't really have cars in the '20s much, so right now I'm going back and forth.

That is cooooooool.
I really like anime that involve books. I don't know why. Gainax+books should equal an interesting show.

What other anime shows/movies does this?
I know that for the later Pokemon movies, the production crew would travel to different countries (for The Rise of Darkrai, they visited Barcelona, Spain).

Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt looks more interesting, but I look forward to hearing more about this, too.

An adaptation?
Ugh. They never have a good track record. Hopefully it's the lightest touch of adaptation.

Their last adaptation was pretty good in my opinion...

I thought both Shikabane Hime and Hanamaru Kindergarten were good adaptations, but Gainax anime-originals are always better than adaptations, which is one of the reasons I'm more looking forward to Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt than this.

You know, the look and plot set-up of this show has me wondering . . .
Is Gainax trying to get Bibliotheca Mystica de Dantalian (say that five times fast) on noitaminA?
SUCH A THING IS NOT POSSIBLE
