AdultSwim.com has hooked up with Kontiki (http://www.kontiki.com) to provide a source of delievery for high quality Adult Swim extended clips. The shows you can choose from are SGC2C, Sealab 2021, ATHF, and Brak. You can also set it up to do weekly downloads of the most recently aired AS clips, the only downside is that you can only view these clips 3 times each, but I'm sure somebody will find a way around that. Kontiki also provides downloads to from various other websites. To download the software and take advantage of these quality clips, just head over to kontiki.com (http://www.kontiki.com)

Sweet! Now all I need is a broadband connection, and I'm set. Anyone feel like donating a couple bucks?

Sure this is good intentions I guess, but it doesn't add up to much. Mainly because the format used within the Kontiki player is realvideo, and it doesn't seem to matter what player it plays in but in most places i've tried it (three seperate computers), playback is terrible.
I'm sure they wouldn't have ponied up for Windows Media format (cause you know that AOL/Time Warner can't even slightly acknowledge that MS actually has something useful), or used something like DivX encoding (since it would be too affiliated with piracy), or used Quicktime (guilt by association - Apple is owned by Microsoft). So they had to scrape the bottom of the proverbial media format barrel.
Fine, okay. They should just shut up and give us a Season 1 DVD box set in a few months. I'll be happy then, but I'm not supporting something that runs like crap on not just my computer but 2 other computers.

Apple ain't owned by Microsoft.
If they were, I'd be selling Windows machines in beige boxes with floppy drives instead.
Cartoon Network spent a lot of money on their Real streaming servers and they don't want to spend the money to move to another format...although they should.

Interesting...
It's a legitimate, licensed, closed P2P file distribution system.
Basically, they use their users' bandwidth to distribute the new clips to every other user.
The videos ARE high quality (any compressor can make talking heads look good) and are about 480x360 at ~9MB per clip.
These are NOT full episodes. More like 3 minute snippets.
I don't think you need to have broadband. All the clips are stored locally. Not streamed. Just subscribe and leave your computer and modem running overnight or something.

I know this is way off the topic of AS, but since when did Apple get bought out by Microsoft? I've got an iMac, and I don't recall anthing related to Microsoft being on it or associated with it (except for Internet Explorer, but it also came complete with Netscape Communicator and AOL).

[sigh]
There was NEVER a buyout of Apple. People assume that Microsoft=Computers therefore Apple=Microsoft.
Apple isn't and won't be bought out by anyone. I bet my stock options on it.

I was caught up in my anti-RealNetworks rage, my bad.
Well it's not so much ownership, as it is MS owning a controlling interest of Apple stock, which I think happened in 1997 or early 1998. They haven't really moved on that yet too much, good for Mac owners/supporters. And it looks like the way Apple's been doing lately MS may just firesale their stock to cut the losses...hopefully it doesn't come to that.

MS does NOT own a controlling amount of Apple stock. No one does.
...in fact, the money given to Apple by MS back in 1997 was a sort of investment and part of a limited "intellectual property sharing" contract (I'm not even going to even mention the undisclosed amount of money MS paid to settle the QuickTime dispute...wait..too late.)

I actually downloaded Kontiki and it was okay but it loodd all this third party ad software too that I had to remove. Maybe I missed the part to opt out of getting all that crap along with Kontiki...but it would stream pop up ads to my desktop every 20 minutes YUK! Like that crap isn't annoying enough on the internet. Did get a 5 minute clip from ATHF Mooninites though!

Char I've had it running for over a day now and never got any pop ups with it. You must have forgot to opt out of something, or you just visit a lot of web sites with pop ups while Kontiki is running.

After trying this, I can safly say that I don't like the Kontiki format. For some reason it makes me angry when I use it....
HULK SMASH...
that sort of thing. No reason for it really, just a subjective oppinion.
