Cold Case, Ghost Whisper, Numb3rs? Are they trying to get rid of everything?
Canceling Cold Case is just plain stupid. It's a good show, better than all that reality they try to shove down our throats on Sunday.

I'm disappointed that Ghost Whisperer is getting canceled, considering it'd been doing well for CBS on a Friday night. This current fifth season wasn't as good as previous ones, but they were introducing a lot of interesting new things. Hopefully this week's finale doesn't end on a cliffhanger. I read that ABC could possibly pick it up since they co-own it. (How does that work?)

We will find out tomorrow what CBS is plugging the holes they have created when they announce their schedule.
I did not watch any of these shows (well, I watched the first handful of Ghost Whisperer episodes) so I am not personally affected, but I saw Numb3rs coming earlier today when Rob Morrow was announced in a new ABC series. I can understand being upset about Cold Case (I've heard good things), but from what I can remember, it barely survived last year when Without a Trace was cancelled instead.
This Hollywood Reporter article (http://livefeed.hollywoodreporter.com/2010/05/cbs-cancels-cold-case-numbers-miami-medical.html) fleshes the story out a little bit more and talks of the bigger surprises and CBS clearing out some decent performers in favor of trying something new.

Wow, just wow. It's almost as if CBS just threw up their hands, and gave up on any kind of programing that isn't a reality show, or doesn't have the letters C, S, and I in it's title. Next thing you, they'' cancel the yearly Christmas broadcasts of 'Rudolph', and 'Frosty'. (If they haven't already, that is.) Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

Word on the street is that ABC might pick up New Adventures of Old Christine, though, based on the fact that they showed some interest the last time it had its head on the block.

With today’s cancelations from CBS, there’s goes 2.5 hours of my usual primetime network TV. NUMB3RS, Cold Case and The New Adventures of Old Christine were three favorites of mine. Sad to see them go.
I’m really excited to see what CBS does with their schedule now. I wouldn’t be surprised if they switch some things up that nobody expects.

Cold Case was a good show. I'm not surprised that it got the axe though, because the last couple of seasons have been sub-par which explains the crappy ratings.

From what I hear it's the music rates that have been a problem for Cold Case. I still can't believe that producers of the show didn't work out some kind of DVD deal when they did the licsensing of the music for the series. This past season instant of using multiple acts during an episode they just settle on artist per episode. Personally, I don't think it really makes that big a deal to me I'd rather have the series with alternate music on DVD than none at all and supposedly it's the music issue that effect the series re-runs as well.
It's a real shame, CBS didn't do right by the series, it's cast or it's fans, during the fall it kept getting preempted by Football, while CBS tried to make other shows hits that ultimatly got canceled and then they pushed the show aside again for that "Undercover Boss" series, if Cold Case had the right lead in show, I think it's ratings would have done a lot better.

It's funny....Any one of those shows would have been renewed had they been getting the same ratings points on another network.

That’s true. CBS is #1 in total viewers and #2 (behind FOX) in adults 18-49.
The main reason for canceling NUMB3RS and Cold Case (and maybe even Ghost Whisperer) was the production costs on the shows starting getting really high, and the shows didn’t deliver the kind of ratings (for CBS) to warrant a renewal.
Cold Case was a very good, well written, crime drama. Sadly, it suffered its entire run on Sunday nights being preempted from it’s scheduled time for football or golf overruns.

CBS wants to be better than NBC when it comes to canning shows. If they want to cancel something, they should cancel Survivor since it's the same exact show.

Well why don't they just go ahead and cancel all three CSIs and call it a day?

You basically took the words right out of my mouth.
I'm sure there will be a conclusion to the whole Shadows thing, but I just don't want something tacked on to the tail end of the episode that would leave us thirsting for more. That happened in the third season finale, I believe, and that was actually the episode that kept me watching on a regular basis.
The Friday night shows on Fox and NBC for the fall schedule don't interest me, and I doubt the CW's Friday line-up will either. (They may have Smallville, but I'd have to rent DVDs to catch up.) So I'll have to wait until tomorrow to see if CBS might have a treat for me for Friday nights come fall. Actually there's a rumor that one of the CSIs might be moved to Friday nights. I didn't know this before, but CSI: Crime Scene Investigation was originally a Friday night show during the first half of its first season.
Perhaps it really could get picked up by ABC and show it on their station sometime. Though I won't be so bummed if Ghost Whisperer doesn't get salvaged, as long as its season finale could somewhat pass for a series finale.

Yeah, the season three finale was all nice and wrapped up, then literally in the final 30 seconds or so, they threw in that twist with Melinda noticing there was a shadow missing from their group of six or so.

Agreed. And here's a Variety blog (http://weblogs.variety.com/on_the_air/2010/05/ghost-whisperer-to-abcs-friday-lineup-its-possible.html) posting saying that ABC has actually talked "a lot" about the idea of adding GW to their Friday schedule if it was to become available.
Then I would face the dilemma of having GW and Human Target on at the same time. Haha!! I really need to get a Tivo or DVR or something.

Yes, there were six of them, and just five shadows. I'm not so sure that bit was even concluded. Was it referring to the fact that Jim was going to die later on?
I think all of the season finales so far have ended with some sort of cliffhanger aspect, and the upcoming fifth season finale might not be any different. So I'm a bit concerned about it not getting picked up by ABC.

Hm. Now that I've read it myself, it looks like there could be some hope. I think Ghost Whisperer could stand to go at least one more season.

At least one more season would be nice, as I felt like some things were never resolved, such as Romano and the Laughing Man from Season 1, and the whole thing with Melinda's half-brother, Gabriel, who hasn't been seen since the third season. It always seemed like the producers forgot about things whenever a new season started.

CBS is giving the boot to daytime soap opera As The World Turns in September 2010.

It'll probably fade out, show the executive producer credits, and then you'll see "MELINDA DIED ON THE WAY BACK TO HER HOME PLANET" written in Magic Marker. At least, I hope.

CBS is the only network, other than PBS, that I get through my antenna so I'm probably more invested in this than most.
The only one I'm going to kinda miss, though, is New Adventures of Old Christine. I was really starting to get into this one and the season finale set up that Christine would go back to college next season, which could have been interesting. Maybe another network will pick it up and then I could see it later on DVD.
Gary Unmarried was terrible. I'm amazed it limped along that long. Accidentally on Purpose was better in that it actually had a few laughs, but it wasn't exactly must see TV and was kind of corny.
I'm surprised Rules of Engagement hung on, that show is just kind of there, it feels out of place with the funnier and more interesting stuff on Monday nights. It's just drab compared to Big Bang theory, tame next to 2 1/2 Men and devoid of honest emotion when compared to How I Met Your Mother.
I hate procedurals, but I will admit that Cold Case was probably their best done and most unique one. The cast was a little less appealing than the original NCIS, though. I don't have much good to say about Numbers, though, although it was slightly better than Criminal Minds which I wish they'd cancelled, too. And NCIS Los Angeles, that's completely lame compared to the original.
I hope they don't replace both with another procedural. I wish they'd take this opportunity to shake up their schedule a bit and change its makeup. What I'd really like is another full night of sitcoms. Good sitcoms, preferrably, though of course that's tough when you throw a bunch together.
Ghost Whisperer is kind of outside my demographic so I didn't watch it. Or Medium. Medium survived on CBS after being cancelled elsewhere, though, maybe Ghost Whisperer can go to another network, too.
Miami Medical most deserved its cancellation. The doctors as rock stars thing was just annoying and it was filled with every doctor show cliche you can imagine.

In all seriousness, Criminal Minds is the only series on CBS that I pay attention to, so I don't have much stake in these cancellations, though they do surprise me. I'll be interested to see how the CM spin-off with Forrest Whitaker does as well, considering these numerous crime drama cancellations.

I believe that's what it was foreshadowing.
But to what exactly?

It always seemed like the producers forgot about things whenever a new season started.
For some reason, it never bothered me that they never touched upon Ramono and the Laughing Man again. Perhaps I thought their whole thing was all wrapped up and I just stopped caring about them completely. Though the writers could use some work. I also always thought they already finished up the Gabriel arc. Come to think of it, I don't even think Eli's mom has even crossed over yet. We saw her in that episode, and her ghost was still lingering in the following episode.
Anyway, I had this thought that whenever they do intend to end the show, they might just bring back Romano and Laughing Man and wrap up their arcs the way they ought to, and that's probably what they're saving them for.
Ghost Whisperer is kind of outside my demographic so I didn't watch it.
What do you mean outside of your demographic?

But to what exactly?
I think earlier in the same episode or shortly before it, she was basically warned that something was going to happen to somebody close to her. I don't think they ever confirmed that it was Jim's shadow that was missing from the group, but since he later got shot and technically died in the following season, it's obvious the lack of shadow was referring to this.
For chicks.
If Ghost Whisperer was a show exclusively for women, I'd never be watching it. I found it to have enough appeal to both men and women. I mostly watched it because of its paranormal elements and the fact it was usually just a feel-good show with a great sense of hope as opposed to just being dark and dreary like so many other shows.

The fact that you watch it doesn't automatically mean it's not meant to be a chick show. You could watch Sex and the City, too, wouldn't make it any more aimed at heterosexual males.
Now, if you'll excuse me I've got a Buffy, Veronica Mars, Wonderfalls, Samantha Who, Ugly Betty marathon planned. In other words, I was kidding. I don't watch it because I've seen episodes of it and I didn't like it, didn't really feel it was aimed at me or that enjoyable.

I though that too, but I still wasn't very certain. Plus they didn't mention exactly who lacked a shadow either.
It never occurred to me that Ghost Whisperer was even meant for women in particular. I just caught a few episodes here and there and I thought it was cool how the stories just throw you for a loop. Plus like I said, the whole thing with Jay Mohr's character pointing out a missing shadow in the third season finale is what kept me watching. I kept watching the first few episodes of the fourth season when it started, and it all snowballed from there.
I watched Boy Meets World back when it was active, and even collected the DVD sets. Five years after the show ended, a girl (woman actually; 28 at the time) I used to be friends with told me she thinks the show was for kids and teenagers, as opposed to The Cosby Show, which she believes is for all ages, since that show came up in our conversation first.

I tend not to put too much thought in a show's demographic anyway. If I end up a fan, I end up a fan. I'm a 31 year old who's actually looking forward to the new Power Rangers season next year, and I've been watching from the very start, and I was 14 at the time, just starting high school. So even then, I was out of that show's demographic. I'm also a guy who has every She-Ra DVD set. I'm an African-American who's a fan of bands like Nirvana. So yeah, you get the gist.
