MONSTER CHALLENGE
World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger faces perhaps his toughest challenge yet when he takes on The Big Red Monster Kane in a Non-Title Match tonight on SmackDown. Who will prevail?

So the IC belt is vacated and Kofi vs Christian is next week for the title. Other than that not much really going on tonight.

So McIntyre's no longer the Intercontinental champion. Good. I like the guy but he's done nothing with the belt and doesn't really need it anyway. This feud with Matt Hardy seems to be getting better though. I'm hoping they have a real match at Over the Limit.

I'm disappointed with the IC Tournament being only 3 matches long, but its understandable when the roster has shrunk considerably. Still, you'd think they'd throw in JTG or Shad to continue their pushes. I don't see what Kofi or Christian can accomplish with the belt either. They both seem ready to move right about now.

Punk/Rey III should be really good. They've had some fine matches at the last 2 pay-per-views, and with the final match having 2 stipulations, they should have one nice blow-off match. I do wish MVP was involved in something bigger than fighting Luke Gallows though

I'd also like to admit team Laycool has grown on me. They've become one of the most entertaining stables in the company, and while not as impressive as The Beautiful People, they play the roles of clique-ish heels so well. I did kind of hope Tiffany was their next target , she was far more impressive in this match than Kelly was. Speaking of them, they almost looked like twins on the ramp.

Love Jack Swagger's new egotistical attitude. Too bad the commercial break cut him off. He also looked pretty impressive against Kane tonight. That chokeslam at the end was sick.

Missed the show, read the spoilers. Part of the reason they took the IC title off McIntyre, and wrote him out of the show, was the fact that he & Tiffany just got married (I assume she jobbed to Layla?), and need time off for a honeymoon. Uncreative dropped the ball with D-Mac since he hadn't defended the title in a while, and became obsessed with eradicating Matt Hardy.

The sad part is that when Drew returns, it'll probably be at the expense of Teddy Long losing his GM gig for the 2nd time. Pray that it doesn't lead to Vickie Guerrero getting a 2nd gig as GM. She's worn out her welcome, and needs to go away permanently.

Here's the thing; whoever loses will somehow, someway, get pushed.

If Christian wins it, however, expect him to move nowhere at all for almost a year.

However, the WWE should be aware that Swagger and Christian feuded before.

I'm expected Kofi to win due to Christian getting a push in the next couple of months against Swagger. I think in the long run both will get a push. Also good to see MVP is back to his winning ways. The next thing is figuring out to do with him, maybe have him feud with Shad. I havn't seen him since the battle royal on the Raw draft.

I might actually not mind Rey in the Straight Edge Society if they go this route with Rey being the Blue Oni to Punk's Red Oni so to speak

Also :p when Big Show made sure to move the laptop out of the way as Kane started to pull out the monitors

This is proof that Vickie is playing her character well :D

There's a difference between "getting booed" heat and "turning and walking away" heat. Vickie's the latter with me. She grabs a microphone, I turn the channel. You don't want that kind of heat, because it means people are leaving your product.

And as far as Rey/Punk goes, it'd be kind of fun to see Rey go Straight Edge and break down the Society from the inside. It'd kind of bring it full circle in a way since it's what Punk did with the New Breed back in ECW.

Pretty good smackdown overall. The McIntyre and Hardy feud is some good stuff.

The only thing that bothed me about this show is Dolph Ziggler losing to Kofi Kingston. After the push Ziggler has been getting with that sleep, he could have used this chance to get the title.

I think Kofi is far more valuable than Ziggler. I think Ziggler may get his chance but it shouldn't be at the expense of Kingston who if used properly can get into the main event scene on SD by the end of the year and believably, I can't say the same for Ziggler.

I just don't like Kofi would be another reason why I wanted him to lose. Sure he's got the talent and all but to me he's annoying

Too well. The heat has gotten to X-Pac "go away" levels for months now. We'll be happy if she takes another summer siesta like she did last year when she "quit" on Raw.

How so? I think Kofi's easily one of the most entertaining guys on either WWE show. He doesn't get that much mic time so I don't see how he can be annoying.

Ziggler is talented but his character rather bland IMO.

On a side note, instead of that Drew getting fired storyline, they should have had him lose the belt to either Kofi Kingston, Christian, or even Matt Hardy instead.

I liked how Teddy Long dealt with Drew McIntyre after what he had done to Matt Hardy in weeks prior and on this night. The suspension and the title stripping (seems out of order) were great and firing is a next logical step although I would think being suspended indefinitely would give him the time off he and his new wife require. It's harder to undo a firing (though not that hard). I don't think we necessarily need to cower in fear over Teddy being fired himself though. He could easily give Drew another chance (or be forced to), I don't see McIntyre moving to RAW, though it is possible. (Drew's firing has been taken all the way as he has been removed from the SmackDown Superstars page.)

Even as a face, MVP seems to be better off on SmackDown, even as the "extra man" in Rey's feud with the Straight Edge Society, he is involved in a front-burner story line and making an impact.

Rey attacking Punk was great payback for the unknown assailant that has attacked Rey. Combing the two stipulations into one match gives the feud a nice build to this point although neither finish will resolve the feud. Punk having to shave his head would probably offer more resolution than Rey having to join his group.

I don't see a bright future for the team of Kelly & Tiffany and they could barely execute a tag properly. Lay-Cool getting the win is far from a shock.

Teddy Long didn't waste any time with his four-man Intercontinental Championship tournament announcement. I think Kingston, Ziggler, Christian and Rhodes are easily the four strongest for such a tournament, but MVP, Kane, Shad and JTG could have easily made it eight without throwing in someone that would be questionable at best as a contender. You have Rey and Punk too, but they are a bit busy. Then the tournament could have extended to have the finals at Over the Limit. A quick resolution is fine with me though, gets the title back to being defended as part of the show.

Always hate to see Dolph Ziggler lose, especially with the I-C Title in the balance, but against Kofi Kingston, it was tough to expect that to happen. Good match.

Of course, Kingston's win also gave me a stronger belief that Cody Rhodes would defeat Christian and go onto the finals and unfortunately that did not take place. Great match though en route to Christian getting the win.

While I would much rather Cody be there, I am satisfied with a Kingston-Christian final. I have been thinking lately that having a heel Intercontinental Champion was not overly helpful to the SmackDown midcard as there seem to be far more capable heel challengers than faces and that will now be corrected (and Cody can just beat the winner later this year ;) ).

I have to say I am loving Jack Swagger telling us about all the times he was "taking on the world and winning." No one likes a braggart and even though he seems more serious now than when he was doing push-ups and hitting imaginary home runs, this feels like a very natural extension of his character. He said in a local interview that becoming champion has just made his character a bit more serious and I think that's clear and works.

Swagger's match with Kane was a good way to do what he can to prepare for Big Show and with his DQ loss he was clearly more interested in making a statement after Show came out in the middle of his match. I think it was Show that made the statement though with the big chokeslam through the announce table.
