I'd heard the name Alan Wake kicked around, but I could never really get a good handle on what it was supposed to be all about. Giant Bomb's Quick Look (http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-alan-wake/17-2431/)helped clarify it a bit for me.
Atmosphere-wise, it looks a lot like Silent Hill Shattered Memories, but in some respects it seems to suffer from the comparison. The HUD seemed to detract a lot from the atmosphere, and pausing the action to read manuscript pages or read the text of signs in a pop-up seems archaic and overly game-y after SHSM's realtime cell phone menu and zoom-in sign-reading. It's also hard for me to imagine playing a control scheme that centered around a flashlight without Wiimote pointer controls. 'Course, you also can't deny that this game is a LOT prettier than anything the Wii is capable of putting out.
I'll be interested to check it out when it comes out on the 18th, although I'll probably Gamefly it first.
