Based on the manga with the original story written by Hiromu Arakawa, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is about Edward and Alphonse Elric who are two brothers who live in a world where the practice of alchemy is flourished. But after a painful event where their mother passes away, they decide to bring her back with the use of alchemy, yet things don't go the way want as Ed loses his arm and leg, and Alphonse loses his entire body and ends up in a suit of armor. Being skilled alchemists, these brothers joined the military and now seek a mystical item called "The Philosophers stone" a stone which can put their bodies back to how they were. But, the path these brothers will take will make them face not only their own sins but sin itself. So erase your memories of the first series, as this series tells the real tale of these two brothers as told by the author.
Last time: The Elric brothers and Winry end up at Rush valley where Ed's pocket watch gets stolen from a thief, Paniya. After following Paniya to a house near town, the brothers meet a pregnant women who is about to have her baby. Yet things end up crazy as the women is having the baby and the doctor is miles away, with Winry's help, the women is able to deliver the baby thanks to the medical books Winry read as a child. Because of Winry's help, she is allowed to "observe" the automail master at the household and so she decides to stay at Rush Valley. Paniya finally decides to move on from stealing and gives Ed his pocket watch back. Now the brothers ride away on a train heading to their teacher..
Today: While visiting their teacher Izumi, the Elric brothers recall the events when they trained under her as kids.

There is no reason for any spoilers when the anime is still going in Japan where you can obviously talk about it in the that thread. Don't make us Toon Zone alchemists perform human transmutation on you, or worse get a visit from Armstrong.
Note: Besides this episode, there is only ONE MORE EPISODE until we hit manga territory. And yeah as usual, episodes 2-13 are similar story arcs. So close...we are burning hot...so close to the manga it's crazy. Next week is actually when we enter manga territory but since it shares a similar plot from the original series, I'd say episode 14 is more of a deserving start.
Enjoy the episode guys!
I wonder how many episodes Funimation has dubbed. I hope the series doesn't have to take a break soon.

If they do take a break, it won't be until episode 26 since that's usually the episode point where they take breaks.

The weather in Memphis has been rough for this lilapsophobic. But if the reused title means what I think it means, the Elrics are in for a different kind of storm.

Previously on FMA: Winry gets a good glimpse of the many a baby-popping experiences that she is sure to have in her adult life. Also, she gets left behind at Rush Valley and Ed and Al head for the *shudders* Master.
Oh, hey Hohenheim. Yep, he haunts his own son's dreams. That's how badass he is.
We're almost there. Then I can finally stop comparing this to the original anime. Good times are coming people. Except for the HD crowd. Who cares about them?

Hey, we didn't see Hohenheim until later in the first series! ...which I suppose is why we're seeing him so early in this one.
Oh, hi Miss Sakaki!

Somewhere between "I don't know" and "Never."
Damn. Izumi pwned that flash flood.
I'm glad that we got the death scene now through that flashback. Now, we can stop comparing how the sudden death of Mrs. Elric was better done in FMA1 for a little.

Oh, I'm back, did the Elrics got attacked by a island native yet?
For a while, I thought this was Lord Of The Flies. Now, a straight-up anime adaptation of that would be messed up.
Yes, Ed has learned the circle of life. Cue up The Lion King!
I hope Funimation does the OVAs too. The OVA with the latest Blu-Ray/DVD shows Izumi's training that she mentioned to Sig.

thing is Sloth and Wrath is Totally different characters than the first anime there is no Homuclus of ther teachers baby and theres no Homuclus of Trisha Elric those are Uniqie to the first anime. Sloth and Wrath are still inthis adaptation but not as you would think thats all im gonna say since ive read the manga ;)
The way Ed was talking about alchemy, it makes me think that alchemy and science was conceived and founded by people who were really high. And, not on life.
I like this episode more than the FMA1 version. There, I said it.
Next Week: The Final Countdown! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jK-NcRmVcw)...until we go into "new" material.

The last two episode were very calm episodes, we get back to serious action next week.
Was that the same actress for Izumi from the first series? I haven't seen it in a long time. I don't remember what she sounded like.
I didn't really notice until this episode, but did Truth seem a bit more feminine when Izumi saw it? I wonder if Truth takes on the form of the person that sees it.

(http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=2491) I think in FMAB she played Izumi a little bit more for comedic effect. Either that or she didn't get into the role quickly like Vic did with Ed.

It's the first option I'm pretty sure, Izumi is not as deeply serious on the outside as she is in the first series.

See, the Elrics didn't need Izumi's husband keeping an eye on them / scaring them to death half the month for them to survive on an island? All they needed was to catch a cute rabbit, be unable to kill it because it showed off its puppy dog eyes, and then watch a fox mother take it to feed it to her cubs, who eat it right before their eyes.
Honestly, you put these boys on 'Survivor' and they're instant favorites to win, for many reasons. Unless they're perceived as too much of a threat and get voted off real early... sorry, going off-topic there...
Nice amalgamation of Episodes 28 & 29 from the first anime, though. Nothing beats the ending, though, with Izumi and the Elrics finally letting out their emotions together after learning they all have committed alchemy's greatest sin... human transmutation.

I thought that this was an interesting episode. Despite Ed and Al dreading meeting with their teacher for a few episodes, she wasn't nearly as harsh to them as I thought she would be. Izumi seemed to be a bit more compassionate for the Elric brothers than I recall from the first series with giving them the chance to become her students just because they didn't have parents.
The flashback to the island was interesting since I only recall a few moments of that training in the original series. It was a deep moment when Ed realized the answer to one is all, all is one. I guess that realization would have helped them to kill rabbits in order to survive.
I didn't know anything about Izumi's backstory from the first series, so hearing about how she wanted to bring back her child was kind of sad. It did explain why she coughs up blood after performing alchemy. I also thought it was touching how she comforted the boys after she found out what they did. I'll hopefully enjoy the next episode as well.

Yeah Ed can be a bit of a jerk sometimes, especially when in comes to his height and rubbing things into people's faces too much. I guess it's part of his personality. Love him or hate him for it.
Izumi seemed to me just as serious if not more from the previous FMA.
I enjoyed the flashback sequence mostly because it allows us to get to know Ed and Al's lifes before the commited human transmutation.
I guess they are somewhat relieved that they are not the only ones who commited the sin...
