I would never picture this to be remade.

That's right, Hollywood. Re-making older movies is a great thing to do when you don't have any ideas of your own.

The only thing that I even remember about The Monster Squad is the fat kid kicking the Wolfman in the nethers. Just because you can re-make a movie from 20 years ago doesn't mean that you should.

I like the idea of having a scary monster movie that kids and families can see out there. When I was a kid, I was a huge fan of the old monsters. However, my parents would have never let me see an R-rated horror movie like the Wolf Man remake. And as a ten-year-old boy, I would have rather died than go see a "girl movie" like those Twilight flicks. So, I think this will fill a much-needed niche. And in the end, the final movie probably won't hold much similarity to the original aside from the premise of "kids fight classic monsters".

You know, my inner monster fan kind of wants them to up the ante and add even more monsters (Mr. Hyde! The Invisible Man! Phantom of the Opera!). However, after rewatching the movie a while back, I think the best thing would be to actually scale it down. Basically cut out the Mummy and the Gill-Man. The thing is, their role in the original movie was really nothing more than as Dracula's lackeys. You don't see any of their trademark drama. There's no pining for a lost love by the Mummy. You don't see the Gill-Man kidnapping beautiful women and getting poked and prodded by scientists. Unless the writers of the new movie can do better with them, they should just take them out.

I'm sorry, but what's so bad about this movie being remade? I actually like the idea of this. A movie about monsters getting beat by a group of kids? Sounds like fun to me. :D

So long as they write it well, and it has a good director, I'm all for it.

Seems like the Platinum Dunes dudes are already counting their money from the reboot of Nightmare on Elm Street, which opens Friday. Not always a smart move from where I sit.

The first "Nightmare" was 26 years ago. "Monster Squad" followed about 2-4 years later. Better they tried remaking the one monster flick that hasn't been remade---Creature from the Black Lagoon.

As long as Hollywood listens to fanboys wanting to remake their favorite films, even when it isn't needed, we're going to be stuck with this.

Monster Squad is about a group of teenagers facing Dracula, the mummy, the werewolf, the gillman, and Frankenstein.

While the talk of making this new Monster Squad "edgier" causes my eyes to go into instant roll mode, if these filmmakers are going to do something different with this remake, like add more monsters or at least a more diverse selection of them or maybe add a girl or 2 to the Squad, since the first one was a total boys' club, then I have no problem with a remake.

If this is just going to be a scene-for-scene, line-for-line, character-for-character reproduction of the first Monster Squad, only "now with edge!", then pass.

Wow, was it popular?

It's not insanely popular, but it does have a strong cult following.

To quote Fred Dekker on matter:

"The movie is already a remakeand a rip-off of so many other things. Making a remake of a rip-off is just plain ridiculous."

I have bad feelings about this, but who knows. Might work.
