I got XD in 2009 when Toon Disney rebranded into and I was really looking forward in seeing both of those since I haven't seen them since Foxkids got defunct. Will the shows return to the XD schedule soon?

I doubt it. There hasn't been one trace of either show on Disney XD since the rebrand.

Disney doesn't look like it has any intention of making any new seasons of Power Rangers, instead opting to "remaster" the first season and air it on ABC Kids. It wouldn't surprise me if, after a certain number of episodes of the original show air, they give up on the series for good.

As for Digimon, they gradually phased it off the Jetix schedule until only Data Squad was left, and then it finally left. It's gotten to the point where I'm guessing if the new series is dubbed, it won't even air on the channel.

So yeah, I'd say both series are probably never going to come to XD. But you can still watch remastered Power Rangers on ABC Kids, I believe.

you would think Disney would want Power Rangers to be Successful since its aimed at boys and would help Disney attract boys to their new network.
But I guess not.

Apparently Power Rangers was Jetix's (UK) numero uno ratings puller (going by PDF files I read on the website). They used to air lord knows how many episodes a day. But a little before it changed to DisneyXD it shrank back to just 2 episodes (I think) a day, and thats how it currently is.

As for Digimon, Digimon Data Squad airs on a channel called "Kix" over here instead of a Disney channel.

Fox Kids aired season 1-3 of digimon, scrapped plans to air s4 and disappeared untill Kix bought up DDS this year.

I would imagine Disney wants to focus on their own shows rather than dubbing some foriegn companys shows.

I'd say, at this point, the most likely candidate for airing Cross Wars will be Cartoon Network.

Oh, the irony that would create if it ends up airing alongside Pokemon...

This should explain why PR isn't airing on DisneyXD

Digimon did air on DXD for a while at about 12:30AM after Oban Star-Racers. As for Power Rangers, I don't think that's ever aired on DXD, but it would probably be a good idea to air it.

No, I'm talking about on the channel. I love Power Rangers :). I'm not sure if Power Rangers aired on Disney XD. Maybe late nights? Same with Digimon.

Even though I no longer watch Power Rangers (unless they can live up to Dino Thunder) I think it would make a good fit for Disney XD. They may think it's too dark like Aaron Stone. I hate to change the subject but how is Aaron Stone more dark than Naruto Shippuden? The stuff on Naruto Shippuden is more likely to give youngters nightmares than Aaron Stone.

I agree. Nicktoons could possibly air the series too, but since Cartoon Network airs a few toyetic series already, it would make sense for them to air Cross Wars on that channel instead. The idea of Digimon airing alongside Pokemon actually sounds really cool, though odd at the same kind considering that Digimon is falsely labeled as a Pokemon rip-off.

Pokemon still airs frequently on CN, but I haven't seen anything Digimon in a long time. Anywhere.

Well if Disney doesn't want to share in the profits, why not just buy up the rest of the Power Rangers property outright? Then they would'nt have to deal with Toei.

But not being in league with Toei would also mean no Japanese sentai footage to borrow, wouldn't it? On their own, Disney would have to shoot their own action and Zords scenes.

Oh yeah I forgot about that. ;)

Anyway I'm sure both sides will come to an agreement. That's too much money to just let lie on the table. BTW, it still trips me out that Power Rangers and Marvel characters are now under the same roof.

Plus I'm not so sure Toei would even allow Disney to buy up PR completely.

They wouldn't. Sentai is far too much of a cash-cow for them in Asia.

So that would explain MMPR remix as well as only running RPM on ABC Kids but at the same time... more people get ABC Kids than DXD by far so they certainly could be able to play them on DXD and continue that strategy. Infact having it on ABC Kids rather than DXD alone gives it much more exposure so I don't know if I buy all of that theory. But the minimal effort to maintain the license does seem to be in effect and Disney may very well be trying to push Toei towards a more lucrative deal.

I hadn't even thought of the 20th Anniversary toy line. That's certainly some incentive to get all the parties involved to come to an agreement.

Not only does the explanation for PR airing only on ABC Kids provide an explanation for PR, but it also provides an explanation for Digimon for those looking deeper. Digimon is owned by Toei. Disney owns the rights straight out to the first four series when it comes to airing or releasing the version on TV or DVD. Since they don't want Toei to get any money from them, and since the contract doesn't require it to air on TV like the one with PR does, then they removed the first four seasons from TV, and as soon as the broadcast agreement for Data Squad ended they removed it as well.

Since DDS never ended on Jetix, Disney should sell their property airing rights to CN or Nick so that way, all of FK anime will air without people scour through VHS tapes to watch these old nuggets of greatness...

End Point. :general:

Media mogul Haim Saban is buying back the fist-pumping, multicolored superheroes known as the Power Rangers from the Walt Disney Co., hoping to launch the enduring franchise into a higher orbit. The Egyptian-born billionaire made his fortune by licensing the Power Rangers from Japan back in the 1990s. He sold his half of the Fox Family Channel, which included the Power Rangers, to Disney in a deal worth $5.2 billion in 2001. His portion came to about $1.5 billion.
Now, he's taking the team of morphing teenagers back. And he's got a distribution deal to show new and old episodes on Viacom Inc.'s Nickelodeon and Nicktoons cable channels.

There are also plans to bring a Power Rangers movie back to theaters for the first time in more than a decade.
"We believe that we could bring a lot more energy and a lot more excitement to the Power Rangers franchise," said Elie Dekel, the president of Saban Brands, a unit formed last week with $500 million in new capital. "We still felt there was room for the brand to be reignited and to once again grow."

Terms of the purchase from Disney were not disclosed. Disney will retain the global cable channel infrastructure it got from the purchase of Fox Family. Disney had been scaling back the presence of the Power Rangers, who tend to get in a lot of fights. It has been phasing out the program on its boy-focused cable channel Disney XD in foreign markets. Although it airs on Saturday mornings on the Disney-owned ABC broadcast network, new episodes have not been aired since December.

"From our perspective, it just doesn't fit in our long-term programming strategy or with the Disney brand," said Disney spokesman Jonathan Friedland. New episodes kicking off the 18th season will play next spring on Nickelodeon and Nicktoons. Some of the catalog of 700 older episodes will hit Nicktoons later this year.
Cyma Zarghami, president of Nickelodeon, said the deal made sense to appeal to the channel's core audience of children aged 6 to 11.

"When a property is able to sustain an audience for the number of seasons that this one has, it's hard to do, and it's hard to do it from scratch," she said. "I think it is no small feat to have been able to sustain that kind of longevity and I think it's really exciting to be able to keep it going."

Every season there are new incarnations of the Power Rangers, but the theme of young teenagers living normal lives and being empowered to transform into superheroes in a fight of good versus evil hasn't changed.
So far, Power Rangers episodes have aired in more than 60 countries, while merchandise and other materials have generated more than $5 billion in sales. Bandai America Inc., a subsidiary of Japan's Namco Bandai Holdings Inc., will continue to be the toy maker for the Power Rangers.

The acquisition is the first for Saban Brands, a subsidiary set up by Saban's Saban Capital Group Inc. last week.
The entrepreneur made his fortune by licensing the Japanese characters from the Toei Company Ltd. He created new storylines, reshot them and sold the shows around the world.

Saban, 65, teamed up with Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. in the late 1990s to create the Fox Family Channel, then negotiated the sale of the whole package, including the Power Rangers, to Disney in 2001.

Saban Capital Group also owns a partial stake in Spanish-language broadcaster Univision Communications Inc.

Digimon savers ended, but it would be nice if they did some reruns on XD. However, a new season of Digimon, Digimon Xros Wars will be premiering in Japan on July 6, 2010. Hopefully it will premiere on Disney XD sometime this year or next year.
