LD Movie Talkback #109

Andy Diggle's A-Team parody comes to life courtesy of the dreaded Sylvain White of "Stomp the Yard"-fame (and several aborted genre adaptations). This has gotten some pretty harsh notices but Ebert likes it (which is almost the exact opposite of "Kick-Ass"'s reception last week).

Really want to see this but it's one of those comics I haven't gotten around to yet. I guess this is a case where I'll end up watching the movie first, because it looks right up my alley. I have read the original DC war comics Diggle lifted the name of the series from, but it bears no real connection to them from what I've read.

After Kick-Ass, this is just "meh".

This movie should've come out in 2009, or at least way before Kick-Ass.

This really isn't meant to be any thing like Kick-Ass. It's sort of a love letter to old TV shows like the A-Team, from what I've seen. One reviewer that I read even wrote that it felt like it should have started with a "Previously on The Losers" segment.

Some of the characters are the same. Clay was in the original series.

I'm thinking this was one of those pseudo updates. The original pitch was to have the surviving members of the original war comics get out of retirement and be dragged into some covert battles and politicking.

Pretty good action movie. The characters were fun, and Rogue's betrayal I didn't see coming, I kept hoping that it was a part of the plan, but by the time the exploding bike collided with the plane I was forced to accept that he was just a selfish prick. :(

Chris Evans to me was the stand out. I liked his character, very funny and odd guy. I was really laughing at all the office scenes, especially the one where he was talking about how he was experimented on by the government and given powers, reminded me of Captain America. This is based off of a comic-book right? So that means this is Evans' 3rd or 4th comic-book movie. Is there anyone else who's played as many different comic-book characters as this guy?

I also gotta say that I enjoyed this more than The A-Team, even though the movies were very familiar. I'd love for this to get a sequel, but apparently it did terrible numbers so I'll doubt that'll happen, but it was still a pretty enjoyable movie.
