Today, the NFL Draft moves to prime time! The first round begins tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET with the second-third rounds starting at 6 p.m. ET on Friday. Rounds four-seven are on Saturday in the way typically expected. NFL Network starts their "pre-game" coverage right now and ESPN will obviously have coverage throughout the day, but fully joins in with their SportsCenter "On the Clock" special starting at 3 p.m. ET. One other change this year is the shifting of picks 21-30. Formerly ranked by regular season record, they are now set by playoff performance (for some time, the two Super Bowl had been picking second to last and last).
Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford is expected by most experts to the first pick of the draft by the St. Louis Rams. There has been some speculation that the Rams were willing to trade that pick, but no further news has come out. Unlike Matthew Stafford and the Lions last year, there is not already a contract in place. With the recent situation regarding Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, the Steelers are reportedly shopping him to teams in the top ten, so anything could happen.

I hope and pray that the Giants land Rolando McClain from Alabama. With the release of Antonio Pierce, we need a middle linebacker desperately and McClain fits the bill. I think he'll be a great player.

The 75th NFL Draft is officially underway and Sam Bradford is now a St. Louis Ram! One assumes you're watching on TV or on-line so there is no need for a bump after every pick (constructive comments on picks are always welcome). The first post will be updated at least periodically throughout the first round.

All we hear about in college football is how the SEC is the best conference, and yet 5 of the first 6 picks have been from the Big 12 Conference. If that truly doesn't show who the best conference was last year, then I don't know what does. It's time the SEC acknowledged that they have to fight to truly be the best conference now.

Spiller to the Bills is a surprise with Lynch and Davis already being there. I would have wanted a QB or some linemen before getting a third running back.

49ers and Broncos swap spots in the first round, and the Broncos also pick up a fourth round pick. It sounds like the 49ers are satisfied with their QB position at this time, as I don't think Miami was going to be after Jimmy Klausen. I honestly think the 49ers have already upgraded the QB position by picking up David Carr in the off season. Tedd Ginn Jr. certainly has upgraded their WR position, and the OL needs are now being addressed with Anthony Davis, T/ Rutgers.
And now San Diego trades up to take the #12 spot from Miami. What do the Chargers want that badly? Ryan Matthews, RB/ Fresno State is the answer. I suppose they're looking for their next LT, but I thought they'd be looking for it in terms of speed, not in terms of injuries.
Now the tradefest continues. Denver trades down to Philadelphia. They get two additional picks, but trading down so far (24) makes you wonder exactly what Denver is interested in getting. Philadelphia grabs Brandon Graham, DE/ Michigan, which shouldn't be a surprise considering the three QB's the Eagles will be up against.

Well, there goes Tim Tebow. He's going to Denver.
And wow, I really am satisfied with the pick Arizona made. Dan Williams sure looks like a beast!

I pretty much guarantee that the players the Ravens pick from those three picks they got from Denver will each have better careers than Tebow will have with the Broncos. We come out of that trade like bandits, even without a first round pick.

I realize that if you don't love Notre Dame, you probably hate Notre Dame, but I can't believe Jimmy Clausen is still on the board. As he continued to drop, I was kind of hoping the Vikings would take him to back-up Favre for a year or two (or replace him), but then they traded out instead. Not too far though as they will pick right after the Rams tomorrow, but I was not expecting them trade out.

The Bills did say they weren't going for a QB, at least not for their first pick. And more weapons is always a good thing.

I'm glad the Bengals got Grisham. He is is a true tight end who can control the middle of the field and give Carson a huge target to pass to.

Dez Bryant, a home boy Texan, is going just a few hours away to Arlington to play for the Cowboys. The question I have is how far does this drop Williams? With this being an uncapped year, I can't see you just firing him, but at the same time I can't see Williams replacing Miles Austin as the #2 or Patrick Crayton as the #3 receiver on the Dallas charts. Picking up a guy that has the speed to give Dallas two deep threats could give teams in the NFC East a major headache, but considering that Philadelphia and the Giants both got defenders that could give the Dallas Offensive Line problems, then the big question now is can Romo get the ball to them? After last year the answer is obviously yes, but they desperately need to upgrade the O-Line with the rest of their picks and give Romo, Barber, and Felix some protection so they can be the most dangerous offense in the NFL, ahead of Arizona and New Orleans.

The Bengals picking someone that Mike Brown will be unable to "redeem"? Me thinks Marvin spiked his Kool Aid and did that himself. Still I'm happy with this choice, though I would have preferred to tighten up the offensive line first.

I can't believe Clausen is still on the board either, and the Denver Broncos have easily done the worst job during Round 1 of the draft.
First, they trade up to get Thomas, a guy they could have EASILY landed at the spot they were originally at or even with their second 1st round pick.
Josh McDaniels is an idiot!! He ran Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall out of Denver, passes on Dez Bryant, and then drafts Tim (the definition of OVERRATED) Tebow. He's gonna be the first coach fired next season, mark my words.
Jason-Pierre Paul was a good pick for my Giants though :)

Can someone explain to me what's so wrong with Tim Tebow being picked? Is it the fact that the Broncos were the ones to pick him? Is it the fact that he was picked in the first round? That he was picked at all?!? I'm not familiar, so that's why I ask...

Well the "experts" love to always be right and hate it when someone does something different than they want. A lt of people feel that Tebow wont be a good NFL QB and he should have gone in the mid rounds. They guy knows how to win and is a leader, any team that got him has to be better. I'm not saying he is going to be a superstar but he brings a lot to the table.

Both Teebow and McCoy have two problems that most experts point out: 1) Arm Strength and 2) System QB's. Teebow also has the mantle of the Heisman winners not being successful on him, whereas McCoy, who should have won one of the Heisman's was a finalist twice but basically got shafted because of one bad performance each time. I actually thought that Klausen was the best pick of the QB's in the draft this year. Klausen not only has the advantage of coming from a Pro-system in college, but he also has the advantage that he's playing for a team that went .500 and could easily win their division. Like it or not, but the NFC South has the best core talent of young QB's in this league now.
McCoy should be glad that he's not in Bradford's shoes. Bradford is coming off of an injury and will probably be the Rams starter this next year. McCoy gets the option of being trained by Delhomme and Wallace, both of whom I think he's better than but Wallace knows the Holmgren strategies from his time at Seattle and Delhomme is a proven .500 starter, both of which will be upgrades for the Browns.

Bradford is being given a chance to prove himself. Yes, he's on a bad team with a bad offensive line but he's definitely the best QB in this years draft. It took Troy Aikman, Eli Manning, and Philip Rivers a couple of seasons to really pan out, so I'm sure Bradford will eventually do so as well.
Tebow is overrated. Just because he was successful in college doesn't mean he's gonna be good in the NFL. His arm strength is weak and he has average recievers in Denver. He definitely shouldn't have been picked over Clausen. I think McDaniels could end up being fired after this season, because I don't see Tebow panning out. I won't feel the least bit sorry for the Belichick wannabe.
Clausen is in the best situation of any rookie QB. He gets to throw to one of the best recievers in the game in Steve Smith. He has a great running game with DeAngelo Williams and Johnathan Stewart, and a good coach in John Fox. They won't win the division, that belongs to the Saints but I think he'll make an impact and eventually be an elite QB.
Colt McCoy is in a good situation as well. While the Browns aren't very good, Mike Holmgren is good at building teams and will eventually make Cleveland credible within the next few years. Delhomme will likely be the starter when the season starts, but when he faulters (and it's likely he will) then McCoy will eventually be the signal caller.
Overall, with the exception of Tebow it looks like a pretty good QB class.

Bradford wasn't even the best QB in his conference. Bradford has admitted that he felt McCoy should have won the Heisman over him, and Bradford lost his only head-to-head meeting with Texas, a game which people forgot about because Texas actually removed their players from games during the 3rd Quarter the rest of the season while Oklahoma ran up the score on opponents the rest of the season. Bradford was thoroughly dominated by BYU this past season, a team not known for having a strong defense, and Bradford is probably the least mobile out of all the QB's this year. When you put him on St. Louis, a team that gave up the most sacks in the NFL this past year, let's just say it'll be David Carr in Houston all over. I could also point out how Bradford lost every "Big Game" he played in, so tell me exactly how he's the best QB. I can understand why Colt dropped. He got injured in the National Championship, and he is a system QB. Still, it doesn't change that Bradford and Colt have basically the same arm strength and only have slightly different systems, so I turn to head-to-head meetings to determine which is better, and Bradford doesn't meet the bill.
