Lucasfilm Animation is developing a new animated "Star Wars" TV comedy series.

Daytime Emmy and Gemini Award-winner Jennifer Hill ("The Backyardians") will produce with Todd Grimes ("Back at the Barnyard") directing. Brendan Hay ("The Daily Show") will be among the writers and Seth Green and Matthew Senreich, creators and executive producers of "Robot Chicken," will have "creative involvement.

No start date or network for the comedy skein have been announced.

It's fascinating to see Lucas continue to milk the franchise.

..A comedy? Depending on the level of content, it will probably be on CN or Adult Swim.

As long as it's not yet another thing about the Clone Wars, I'd give it a shot.

Did someone forgot to tell George Lucas that April's Fool was last week?

I believe we all know what this means:

Ewoks: The Animated Series Redux

Initial rumors said this would be a more kid-oriented show (similar to the Super Hero Squad), though having the Robot Chicken creators involved kinda casts some doubt over that.

With the Clone Wars CGI show becoming increasingly darker and serious, I actually think a more kid-friendly Star Wars cartoon makes sense. I'll give this a chance, at the very least.

See, I don't get that. The Star Wars series as whole is dark. Why appeal to kids this way, especially if those same kids have watched the movies? I'm not saying there should be a series where each episode is a "Revenge of the Sith" dark, but a new series shouldn't just become like Super Hero Squad, imho.

Word on the street is that it's based on the Galactic Heroes toyline, which is very much in the same vein as Super Hero Squad. This could be fun. Heck, I love Super Hero Squad. They slip in jokes and references just for us old adult Marvel fans. With Seth Green aboard, we could probably get the same thing.... like maybe a toned-down version of the "Robot Chicken" episodes?

And look at it this way.... this series would likely have characters from both the Original and Prequel Trilogies. Maaaaaybe this is something of a "test run" for, say, a Clone Wars-style series set during the Original Trilogy! George does like to do his test runs first (The "Special Editions" were the test run for the prequels, the Tartakovsky Clone Wars were the test run for the current series). It's too early to start dreaming of Mark Hamill returning to voice Luke, but I say "stay tuned".....

I would rather hear some news about the live-action "Dark Times" series, but this could be a fun little diversion. :)

The Star Wars series as whole is dark.

Not really. The Empire Strikes Back and Revenge of the Sith are the only dark installments in the movie series. And, even then, they had their light-hearted moments.

Canon or non-canon? That is the question. Most likely non-canon.
Considering who's behind it I think it'll be on Aduit Swim.

I'm hoping cannon without going into big endeavors of the Expanded Universe.

As for thoughts on the series I'm delighted that we'll have CGI Clone Wars, The Live-Action Series and now this.

What.

Let me get this straight; it's a Star Wars comedy series, it's from one of the writers of Backyardigans, one of the producers of Back At The Barnyard, one of the writers from The Daily Show, and the creators of Robot Chicken are also involved?

Am I in Wacky Land?

Jennifer Hill will be a producer and Todd Grimes will be the director.

Jennifer Hill will be a producer and Todd Grimes will be the director.

Not exactly the point, it's just that, this is possibly the most bizarre production crew of an already bizarre possible series.

It's already become enough of a farce that it can't hurt to do it literally.

I'm basicly through with Star Wars, I love the movies and all but they keep coming out with all of these side projects and it's beginning to get complicated as to what stuff is considered "canon" or not, I guess I could always stick to the films but I like exploring the universe and all but it's just getting to be a bit much. I do like some of the books though and the Clone Wars animated series that is currently running is pretty good, I think I'm just getting a little burnt out on the Star Wars franchise as a whole though and maybe if I try to avoid getting wrapped up in a sea of "Lucas" for a while this feeling will wear off.

That's interesting news. I wonder how they will approach it. If it's done at all in a (humor or production) style similar to Robot Chicken, I think it'll probably just come across as a regular spoof of Star Wars.

The official stance is that basically everything (except Star Wars Infinities and other alternate universe stories) is canon unless George Lucas contradicts something in the course of a film. (Such as the origin of Boba Fett, which then had to be corrected within the Expanded Universe in order to fit. So the EU really makes an effort to stay consistent and explain any differences.)

That's gonna be too much Star Wars for me.
And just recently, I've been starting to enjoy the first season of "The Clone Wars" dubbed in Cantonese which is surprisingly not that bad besides the mispronunciation of Obi-Wan "Kenobi" (try rhyming that with "canopy" and you'll get a good idea of how his name is said in the Cantonese dub).

I'd probably wait until after The Clone War's run is over before putting another cartoon out, but I don't have a problem with another show. It has potential. It could be pretty funny if Seth Green is a part of it. I don't really consider stuff outside of the 6 movies to be canon, so I don't get upset about things like some strict EU fans do if everything doesn't match up. I consider it more like Transformers or G.I. Joe with their different brands over the years.

Sounds too early to tell what the heck this thing is.

Toymation slacker humor for kids?

In a way it would be a smart move. Today kids have to make a mental leap connecting a character on a tv show with a toy they are supposed to buy that looks very much like that character, but is made of plastic instead of being a drawing.

And instead of taxing their imaginations to come up with adventures for their toys to go on, they can just use their robots and Jedi to emulate disaffected college students they may know from real life.

But, like I said, it’s too early to know anything.
I’m just not too hopeful about anything coming out of Star Wars anymore.

Here (http://starwars.com/fans/media/newseries_announcement/index.html) is Starwars.com's article on the show. I suppose it has potential. And IESB scooped news on this in March (http://iesb.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=8755:iesb-exclusive-new-star-wars-animated-series-on-its-way&catid=43:exclusive-features&Itemid=73) that this series would be based on the "Galactic Heroes" toy line.

And I'll just copy/paste my thoughts on this from another forum:

Green/Root/Senreich going from making animated comedies for adults to making a show for kids is not a step in the right direction.

But I'll give it a shot because: a) It's Star Wars; b) Green/Root/Senreich have produced some good animated comedy; c) If it's anything like the Superhero Squad Show, it might be fun.

But finding out this project is a kids show puts a serious damper on my expectations.

Something isn't adding up.

Seth Green said it'll be a comedy based on everyday stuff in the Star Wars universe according to the official Star Wars site yet that article says it'll be based on a toy line that is obviously based on well known Star Wars characters.

I'm going to wait for more news on this but I don't believe the IESB article at the moment.

Seems like Lucas has finally noticed how immensely popular the specials Family Guy and Robot Chicken put out on Star Wars and finally decided to cash in.
