Here is a good one gang....
In your very own opinion, do you think Cartoon Network is the "BEST" place for cartoons? vote and tell us why you think, or don't think Cartoon is the place for cartoons.

Try naming another existing television station that is a better place for cartoons. Someone's personal collection can't be compared to a television station.

NO!
Okay, maybe CN's been good for a few things, but lately, it's turned into a very crappy network.

My thoughts are as follows on this subject matter....
There was a time that I thought CN was a great channel to watch cartoons, but in the last three to five years it has become the channel I am starting dispise. For example, their stupid awards show which I said it was a shamless 2 hr. promotion for their pure home made 100% "Craptoon, Craptoons" for which I was displeased with the entire special where it tell me where CN stands on classic animation.
As we see it now, the great cartoons are becoming a thing of the past on CN, as the network has cancled some of their best programs such as, Late Night Black & White, O' Canada, prime airings of the Acme Hour. The thing I can't understand is why CN claims and brags to be the best place for cartoons? All they do is show "Craptoon Craptoons" all the time, god awful anime, and countless airings of Scooby Doo non stop, now you tell me that CN is the best place for cartoons ?
Cartoon Network will pick up anime series from Japan, but why won't they pick up classic cartoons such as the excellent theatrical series Jerry Beck put together, "TOTALLY TOONED IN", for which CN has not even decided to put on it's roster. I have e-mailed CN on several occasions to bring the Columbia cartoons to their network, but only to have the network not respond to my e-mails.If CN really want's to earn that reputation for clamming to be the place for cartoons, then they should get the rights not only to classic theatrical shorts. but classic tv shows as well and bring back their best programs they have ever shown and then maybe, just maybe they can at least brag a little about their network and their cartoons, but until that ever happens..
So Cartoon Network please do us a major a favor and don't brag about your network until you have the great stuff on your back on your channel again.

It used to be when it started out, but since this Cartoon Cartoons junk, CN's gone way downhill.

I'd have to say yes. I mean where else can you see Looney Tunes cartoons anymore? They hardly even show cartoons on regular networks on Saturday morning. And I happen to be a huge fan of, well you know that dog that solves mysteries, eats snacks that are named after him, hangs around with a beatnik guy with a green T-shirt, that's on that show that nobody else here likes. I have no problem with how often CN runs that show. I guess I'll shut up now. I've probably started an argument.

What are you comparing it to? Comparing it to something that doesn't exist is a bad idea. I admit they have made some bad decisions recently, but I still don't see why it is that bad.

I agree with Pilmedium. Anyone who thinks CN is that bad, should check out Toon Disney. :p

Compared to other cartoon channels that I have seen bits and pieces of, CN is the best one. There are a few people who care about the older cartoons there, we would never get something like the Bob Clampett show on Toon Disney or Nickelodeon. Never in a million years.

I chose "maybe" because in a way, CN is the best place for cartoons since it seems to be the only channel where the classics are shown. On the other hand, the classics are getting less airtime just like those on Disney Channel.

I'll vote "maybe". At least they're still showing classics, but too much focus nowadays is on Cartoon Cartoons. Face it, CN was much better back when it started and the only "original" cartoons of theirs were the World Premiere Toons (which were great, especially Sledgehammer O'Possum and Yukkie Duck).

My prediction: Cartoon Network goes to cartoons and anime, while they open up another network for the classics. (Either them or someone else, that is! Remind me to talk about this with the Toonzone founders! ;) )
Anyone who thinks CN is that bad, should check out Toon Disney.
AAAAHHHHH! Don't ever use that term around me! I was once stuck on a plane for 7 hours with nothing to watch but Toon Disney on my little TV screen! You can only take so much Rescue Rangers.

I picked maybe.
CN isn't that bad, but I feel that they need to pick up some more classic cartoons.

Boomerang seems to have the better lineup these days.

___________________________________________________I have to agree with that. I mean how many people here watch "Dexter's Lab" or "Sheep in the Big City?" It would be better if they just showed the classics. On the other hand, I guess we don't want to be couch potatoes and watch cartoons all day. Maybe by airing some boring toons, they're probably telling us, "Hey, don't be watching TV all day! Get out and get some air, you fools!" Just a thought.

This is completely a matter of opinion, and I disagree.
1) Boomerang repeats everything twice right after the original airing. At least Cartoon Network has some shows that don't get immediate repeats at all.
2) Boomerang's main focus is old television cartoons. I am not a fan of them, and I am scared that it won't be long until the classic 1930s (and even 1940s) cartoons are completely forgotten, leaving only those.

Good points. I hadn't considered, or known about the reruns, since I don't have Boomerang, and my only CN access is at friend's homes. *But* I would much rather watch old television cartoons than new television cartoons.
Personally, I'd rather watch stuff from my collection than anything on television anyway.

I don't get BOOMERANG here on my local cable, but I have been watching CN since its inception years ago, and I must say that for the past few years I've been very disappointed with it...
I am not a fan of the "new" animation (Dexter's Lab, Powerpuff Girls, and all that other drek) and despise all ANIME (A character's mouth moves and dubbed dialogue comes out - that's animation?!?). 'Bugs & Daffy' isn't on until after prime time or stuck in the wee late hours & yet some of the films are shown in time-compressed form or hacked to politically-correct pieces ("September In The Rain", anyone?). The same can be said for 'Tom & Jerry'. Popeye is only on once a week (even that's in reruns!) & the ACME Hour is just a complete waste of time by now...
Those of us who love classic theatrical cartoons just aren't getting to see them on TV anymore...THANK GOD FOR VIDEO!!

The Other Best Place for cartoons would be my huge toon video library at my house also. :D :D :D :D :D
Heck, you ought to see the collection I own!

I say Cartoon Network is the best place (on American TV) for cartoons. That doesn't mean it's the ideal place, but it's still a better station than those other stations (I won't mention that "TD" phrase...).

My problem with Cartoon Network can be summed up in two words: Scooby Doo. I can't freaking stand Scooby Doo. I want it to go away, please, NOW. Gehhh.
And yes, I am annoyed that we don't get TOTALLY TOONED IN. And I'm upset that a lot of other good programming keeps getting shafted in favor of... MORE SCOOBY DOO! Glurgh.
However, the new ADULT SWIM blocks are some of my favorite television in the past few years. The animation on some of the segments might be primitive, but the humor is right on, especially in Sealab 2021. I'll admit, there's some crap mixed in there (Pilot Candidate?! BLECH! More Big O, please) but overall I like it-- and it's encouraging animation for adults and "older" general audiences, which I think needs to happen.
I just really want classic cartoons to have *A* venue. A lot of good stuff isn't getting to TV or video-- if I could have either of them, I'd be happy as a clam.
